Hi. Former THQ designer here. Maybe you weren’t a fan, but WWE and UFC games kept the lights on for many years and sold really well. U-Draw sold great on Wii, too, but THQ stupidly thought it would work on PS3 and 360. Also, THQ funded both South Park and Devil’s Third for years with nothing to show for it. It was a B-level publisher trying to be A-level, and that didn’t work out.

Telltale was actually grossly mis-managed and I’m shocked so many people didn’t see it. I remember years back thinking: wow they just announced another game!? Aren’t they already working on 5 others? So I wasn’t shocked at all when they announced bankruptcy. If you read the reports it pretty much says the same. The company was taking on too many projects at once. They didn’t have enough employees to make that many titles. And the company was taking on new projects to secure cash to keep the company afloat and it eventually caught up with them. They were supposed to make a Stranger Things game but when Netflix caught wind of the state of their company they pulled the deal and they literally needed that contract. So once the streaming giant was out, the company was over. Basically Telltale was kind of a scam in a way.

CEOs of EA, Bethesda, Konami, Activision, maybe Microsoft... basically every North American game company or North American branch of some Japanese studios, who knows? I hope that doesn't keep happening, but don't quote me on this if it does happen. It was supposed to be a joke, nothing to take seriously, but if it does, and I accidentally called it, I'll take responsibility for it, and gladly eat my own words. I mean, I was wrong on the whole ProJared thing, and was one of the bandwagoning idiots who believed one side of the story instead of doing my own research first and listening to both sides of said story. I mean, I was ready to listen and be on the same damn side as DSP! DSPIGROACH! The absolute WORST gamer ever! And I was about to take the side of an idiot like that. So, I'm not against taking responsibility for my actions. I can man up and admit when I'm wrong about something or someone. I'll gladly do it, I'll even get down on my hands and knees and apologize for being wrong. I do hate being wrong, but I can admit when I'm wrong. I'm not a prideful man. I do hope these things DON'T happen and that I'm not right about more CEOs laying off more people at fast rates. But I do hope the CEOs of Konami, Ea, and Bethesda get fired though, along with at least, one or 2 of the awful people who keep making the stupid decisions, so that MAYBE someday, those companies won't be known as the 3 worst gaming companies ever, but for now, that's just wishful thinking... but then again, Capcom redeemed themselves, with the RE2 Remake and DMC5... and Sega's doing great with the Yakuza series and the Sonic The Hedgehog movie. So, maybe there's hope for them? I can't say, as I don't know the future. But I do hope it ends well, at least for us gamers.

@musicdude15402 жыл бұрын
You actually weren't correct. They had overspent and dug themselves into a hole long before they even did decent games. Their demise was written on the wall the moment they had any success. Just bad mismanagement of funding.

@@musicdude1540 How was I not correct? What you just said isn't mutual exclusive to what I said. My point was that releasing a bunch of undeveloped games all at the same time and all felt the same wasn't making them enough money to make up for all their spending and contracts.

Disney Infinity had a ton of potential. Toys to life weren't dying, they were just being slammed to store shelves every 5 nano seconds, so you almost had to become a rocket scientist to keep up with all the sets, characters, bases, games, etc. If Disney had just been smart about how they were developing the series, they would be making BANK right now. All they needed to do was have all the characters, figures, playsets, accessories and games compatible with each other and stop releasing them so frequently. It's a shame. I really loved Infinity.
@QGonline5 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure Lego Dimmensions tried that and failed. Surprising, since that one technically should've been the most successful
@therealkzero5 жыл бұрын
@@QGonline That's because they came a little late to the party. By the time Lego Dimensions came out, fatigue had already set in with Skylanders and Infinity. So they were just another proprietary toys to life experience no one had the money or patience for. I really wish all of them survived. Some great ideas, characters, and sets left off the experience :(
@charlescampuz58125 жыл бұрын
Sorry man, but the fatigue was too obvious by the time Infinity 3.0 came out. You see how Activision ditched Skylanders? You see how many toys to life bundles appear in the clearance section of Bargain Hunt? It was pretty clear this fad wasn’t going to rake in cash for long & Disney knew that.

I was sad it shut down. Two reasons: they were planning a story mode for 4.0 and I was very curious about that plus having a offline function helps as in the end all games will have discontinued servers at some point so having anything offline play and fun I feel helps. 2nd: I wanted that Spider-Gwen figure they had planned (and I don't own the game I just wanted that figure) among the upcoming bunch plus rumors for Darkwing and Gravity Falls figures.

AlphaDream's bankruptcy really made me sad. Their games always had so much personality and creativity.
@Turbulation12 жыл бұрын
I think the main issue for the downfall was remaking two of their older titles on a console that was dying. Paper Jam only getting 1 million sales was a sign that the 3DS was starting to become irrelevant, and Alpha Dream, instead of taking the time to perhaps develop a more refined Mario and Luigi game for a newer upcoming Nintendo console, maybe the switch, did a remake of Superstar Saga on the 3DS with an extra small side mode for new content, and it didn't pay off unfortunately because that game almost got half the sales as Paper Jam, even if some fans were happy and nostalgic for it, most people just weren't too interested in it by 2017. By this point Alpha Dream really should have known they were screwing up, but then they made the exact same mistake again for remaking Bowser's Inside Story for the 3DS in 2018, and the game became the second worst selling mario game in the whole franchise, at 20K sales. They gave a pretty stupid response to not making the game for the switch which was to keep the dual screens intact on the 3DS, which is an awful excuse because they could have easily reworked it for the switch and the game needed to be on the switch to even have a chance of getting good sales. The extra side mode wasn't gonna reel people in either since it was nearly identical in gameplay structure to it's previous extra side mode game.

THQNordic is really working on rejuvenating the old THQ properties.. THQ published a mildly popular blatantly Diablo inspired hack-n-slash called Titan Quest back in 2006. THQNordic has picked up that torch again and has started releasing DLC for the game again, all the way in 2019. That was probably inspired by the team behind Titan Quest, Iron Lore, making a new company under the name Crate Entertainment after they went defunct and licensing their old engine and developing a spiritual successor to Titan Quest (Grim Dawn) to pretty good success. They're both great games if you are into the Diablo rip-off genre, and I say that with great love for all of them.

Rare was about to go bankrupt, that’s why they needed someone to buy them to protect them from going down. Microsoft saved Rare, but the gaming scene was different back them. Xbox was known as the "adult" console and Nintendo was known as a "kids" console. A former Nintendo development studio just didn’t fit with the Xbox crowd, they didn’t care about Rare. Rare was trying to continue make games like they would have always done, Microsoft wanted to promote their games, but since the audience wasn’t the same, they instead promoted games like Gears of War because it was more profitable for them and most Rare games didn’t sell well because of that and the bad rep they got from the angry Nintendo fans who were still bitter about the buyout.

Rare is more like Nintendo R&D (Not E&D) now, except that they didn't release fun titles like Metroid Fusion. Rare now usually does some stuff that is more like a demonstration of hardware, like how UWP games from the Windows store could viably work. Stuff like the new G-rated Conker is so bad though. BTW Nintendo R&D made pretty much only focused consoles ever since their last ever game before their merge, Metroid: Zero Mission. They revived series like Fire Emblem with The Binding Blade, made IPs like Sin & Punishment, and were the sole developers of Metroid before Metroid Prime.
