They helped me buy Stardew Valley, the game so good that people BOUGHT it after pirating it to support the developers. Fun Story: When the Club Nintendo Mewtwo Smash DLC reward was announced I (only having a 3DS) with a friend (who had a Wii U) redeemed our codes Smash codes on a single account for the free DLC, but because we live in Mexico we couldn't receive the SSB4 soundtrack due to shipping stuff without using some paid service (bare in mind we were just students without jobs), so we put a random address on USA and to this day I believe someone is enjoying a free copy of the SSB4 Soundtrack CD courtesy of Steve Stevenson (the fake name we put). Gosh why Nintendo doesn't like Latinamerican customers...

It really cannot be understated though how fast all the good stuff from Club Nintendo went out of stock and how expensive in coins it all was, you had to be buying serious amounts of Nintendo to afford them. Almost all the really good stuff would disappear within 24 hours, even during the 2002-2006 Nintendo VIP gamecube era where not many people were using the internet much. I would then see this stuff on ebay and used game stores for 100's. The amount of time to open all your boxes, enter in all your codes on a crude slow website and keep checking back everyday for decent rewards was really frustrating, so I'm not surprised if most people just gave up on the service altogether. My Nintendo is obviously just for marketing it's consoles to mobile gamers who likely don't even care about traditional gaming consoles, they know the console fanbase is strong enough with the Switch to keep buying their games and re-releases anyway. Until that changes, the good rewards and especially the physical rewards from Club Nintendo days are truly dead.

If "My Nintendo" is mediocre now, it was absolute trash when it first launched. When it launched, the discounts were mostly 10% and MAYBE 20%. People were complaining and I saw someone direct people to actually complain to nintendo through their website and send them feedback, because they probably DON'T have any idea what people want. So, I'll never forget, messaging them and telling them, 10% OFF is fine for Platinum coins, but if you want me to spend my Gold Coins, I want 30% off. Amazingly, a week later, more and more games started getting 20-30% off. So, I'm okay with the discounts... I just wish they'd offer it on games I want to buy. (or stuff I want to buy digitally.)

I remember when I was about 8 years old I saw the gold controller on club Nintendo, I freaked out and tried to get as many codes as possible to get it and I was about 30 points short, I didn't know surveys where available so I got my dad to go out and buy a Nintendo game to get a code.
