@hedgehog31803 жыл бұрын
The reveal really doesn't work because we spent the entire game playing as the dude, like sure yes it made him less suspicious but when we're playing as someone we expect to be actually controlling them unless something clearly indicates that this person is unreliable, CoD Black Ops managed to do this better by actually establishing that the guy we were playing as was remembering almost everything incorrectly by inserting fake characters and so on.

I played it with my dad (I know, bad idea) and as soon as his face showed up he said "Is that the killer?"
@GBDupree3 жыл бұрын
@@hedgehog3180 Even worse is that by playing as him we are given access to his thoughts, meaning the game has to actively lie to you directly to hide his identity because his personal thoughts that he is only thinking to himself he constantly acts like he is actively trying to solve the mystery and doesn't know who the killer is, the game doesn't even try to use thoughts that can be conveyed to have multiple meanings that fit the twist. So as a movie the story sucks, but as a game its completely broken.

@@GBDupreethe way the game could’ve show some hints is to make Shelby the only character where he doesn’t have a lot in his thoughts and when he does it should be like him asking about where is the evidence at or suggesting that Lauren is able to decrypt the message quickly and getting “too close” to the case. 6:00 For those curious about how this killed Jason despite Ethan clearly taking the brunt of the impact-it was originally written that, when Ethan knocked Jason down to try and save him, he actually crushed and killed him. Ethan wasn’t indirectly responsible due to being in charge of the kid at the time, he was _literally_ the one to kill the boy (accidentally or not) This plot point was ultimately scrapped, but the cinematography of the scene remained.
@329link2 жыл бұрын
That would've been way better. The guilt would've made more sense, as would the divorce. Why did they scrap that when it fixes loads of problems with ethan's story?

@vision48602 жыл бұрын
@@theactualmasterbeef I don't think so. I'm no lawyer, but I do know that intent is very important in criminal cases. I think it'd be very easy to dismiss it as accidental, as he was clearly trying to save the boy from getting hit by a car. And a quick search comes up with... this would probably be considered "accidental killing", which is different from involuntary manslaughter. Accidental killing is a death caused by a lawful act done under the reasonable belief that no harm was likely to result. Whereas involuntary manslaughter, which is causing death by an unlawful act or a lawful act done in an unlawful way. Diving to get someone out of the way of a car is definitely a lawful act with reasonable belief no harm would be likely to result. I like how at one point the killer kills a lady while we, as Shelby, are in the next room and then at the end the game retroactively changes that scene to make Shelby be the killer.
@GBDupree3 жыл бұрын
Not to mention we are given full access to Shelby's thoughts at all times, and throughout the game he never once thinks to himself that he is the killer, but actively tries to "solve" the mystery. So the game adds an unneccessary gameplay element that it thens has to actively lie to us through in order to make the twist work. So the game is actually WORSE for being a game, when if it was a movie the gameplay gimmick wouldn't have destroyed the story.

They really tried having realistic motions in this game, and sometimes they do pull it off. But the biggest issue is the face. The mouth movements just look so wrong. A human mouth doesn't work that way. The eyes, or rather everything around the eyes, just looks weird too. - I get some Foodfight vibes from these actors. Where they try to exaggerate every motion they do, instead of being realistic. Sometimes the characters just looks drunk when they move. For example, look at how she pulls the gun at 1:52, where she does it so slow it looks like she's drunk. Or the clapping at 8:22, like he has no idea how to clap and don't know exactly where his hands are, like he's drunk. Everyone's drunk. ... yep, 11:41, he's drunk too.

The original story was that Ethan was the killer and the blackouts were when the killer side emerged. @somanyfruitsmango9021 Жыл бұрын
I've seen a good bit of Heavy Rain, but I've never seen a campaign of it that felt good. There's always something that just doesn't make any sense or directly contradicts something else in the story. The most notable example of this is how Shelby tries to murder Ethan after he finds his son due to not wanting to go to prison. This directly contradicts a possible option you could have taken earlier in the game. Earlier in the game you discover a rich guy who's son murdered children in the same manner as the Origarmi killer, and the rich guy goes through great lengths to cover it up, including trying to murder Shelby. Clearly this is a father who has nothing more than love for his son despite his horrific crimes. When you confront the father a bit later after the attempted murder he starts having a heart attack, which gives you/Shelby the option to save him by giving him medication. This one moment sets an exceptionally important precedent for Shelby's motivations. If you don't save the father then Shelby's motivation is only to find a father who truly cares about their son and he will feel no guilt over killing that father to save himself. This means it would make sense for him to try murdering Ethan after he finds Shaun. But if Shelby saves that father it sets the precedent of: Shelby wants to find a father who cares for their son no matter what, and he will risk great prison time and even his own life in order to find it. There is no reason to believe that the father will not try to murder Shelby afterwards, he has hid the murders his son committed, he has tried murdering Shelby previously, and Shelby knows that his son is a murderer. By saving the father Shelby puts his life at immense risk. But Shelby does not care because he found a father who truly cares for their son, and that's all that matters to him. THEN WHY DOES HE TRY TO MURDER ETHAN???????? There is absolutely no reason for him to try murdering Ethan if the player previously decided to save the father. It directly contradicts his established motivations. If the player has the ability to give Shelby a more conclusive motivation for his actions only for the game to not actually use those motivations then why is the option even in the game?
