Scotty was at one with the Enterprise. He got into a melee with Klingons when one called the Enterprise garbage. When the Enterprise was tossed halfway across the galaxy, he sensed something wrong with the feel of the ship. He referred to the warp drive as his engine. He would rather create a warp detonation, killing the Enterprise and all aboard her, than to have Romulans put their grubby hands on her. As a side note, this episode gave us The Vulcan Death Grip. A term that has been used for decades in referring to holding on to something very tightly, even though there was no clenched hand involved. More like a variation of the mind meld touch.

Scotty's best episode was in "A Piece of the Action" and his ST character was fashioned after another Scottish spaceship engineer named Macdougal created by the great sci-fi writer of the 40s and 50s Nelson Bond for his collection of Lancelot Biggs space-faring adventures

As much as many only stick with TOS, my favorite Scotty performance was from Star Trek IV, The Voyage Home. Where he's typing away on the computer terminal at blazing speed to give the specs for transparent aluminum, and makes the comment; 'How do we know that he didn't invent it '

There any TOS episodes where you can actually see it? Only episode I’ve ever noticed it on was the TNG episode where he’s drinking with Picard on the holodeck.

From James Doohan's IMDB profile: Landed on Juno Beach on D-Day as a member of the Royal Canadian Artillery. Soon after, while walking across a mine field, he and his unit were attacked by enemy fire, as the Germans shot at them with machine guns. He was hit by four bullets to the leg, his middle finger of his right hand was shot off, and a bullet struck his chest. His life was saved when that hit a silver cigarette case which had been given to him by his brother

@@eagleeye0078 , yes, there are a few such episodes. I forget the title of the episode, but it is the one with Lee Meriwether as the guardian of a dead planet, and also a scene in The Trouble with Tribbles, maybe others as well. There are TONS of episodes where it is clear that Doohan is holding his hand awkwardly in order to hide the missing finger. In the encyclopedic books on TOS, "These Are The Voyages", mention is made of Doohan practicing his hand choreography before shooting each scene, in order to avoid having the missing finger be obvious to the camera. And also, the bit about Doohan losing finger(s) on D-Day....he lost ONE finger, not fingers, and he did not lose it on D-Day, and it was not 'shot off' as some people say. In his autobiography, "Beam Me Up Scotty", he describes how the finger was severely injured as part of the D-Day invasion (perhaps not on D-Day itself), and he also got shot in his leg. He was sent back the England for medical care and convalescence, and for quite a while they thought they could save the finger. Finally, X-Rays were taken (fewer military war hospitals in those days had X-Ray machines) which showed that the bone was completely shattered and would never heal correctly, and the best he could hope for was a stiff finger that would always stick straight out, look odd and be constantly getting in the way, becoming injured again and again, and generally causing other problems. So he and his doctors agreed to have it surgically removed.

"This is Lieutenant-Commander Scott. The Enterprise takes no orders except those of Captain Kirk, and we will stay right here until he returns. And if you make any attempt to board or commandeer the Enterprise, it will be blown to bits along with as many of you as we can take with us."

I'll give her this, she doesn't hold the crew responsible and understands they had no choice but to follow orders. But if she thinks a starship acting captain is going to obey the orders of a Romulan commander, she doesn't understand humans *at all.*

@@TheMyrmo Quite frankly I think they enjoy matching minds with the Federation a little too much. I think if they had the chance to completely destroy the Federation they wouldn't take it. The rivalry is too important to keep the Romulan empire strong.

Scotty pulled the Enterprise out of Danger countless times. He single handedly resurrected The Constellation for one last battle but THIS is by far his finest moment. IN Command and taking ZERO bullshit while showing the utmost loyalty to his Captain.

You notice both times here and with that Federation ambassador, he took the same stance. "I don't care what *anybody* says, nothing is going to happen until the captain says so." I also think the other scene is better because he looked a "superior" in the face and told him "No." A million gross tons of balls. 😁
