We went to a Flatland BMX jam where we met so many amazing people and riders that love this side of BMX! The impossible trick from the 1980's returns and we finally got to see an old school BMX pro finally land it! We also got to see some tricks performed that don't even seem real!

Flatland is such a mind-blowing vein of BMX. The different disciplines are all amazing in their own ways, but something about flatland is so magical to watch, and the scene seems to be filled with some really down to earth people.

Flatland is the most artistic form of BMX. It’s probably the most raw form of BMX because it’s literally just a bike, no ramps, rails, etc.

Yep, it's in the same vein as freestyle in skateboarding IMO, its only about you and your board/bike and seeing how much precise control you can get while applying a "style" to it.

"FlatLand BMX York Jam" footage goes all the way back into the 90's and was even featured on old Props videos several times. It's fun to watch everything progress over the years if you use the right keywords to find it. Some of the most amazing tricks ever. Cheers!

Scotty, if you're feeling up to it I am sure more folks than me would like to see you cruise around on your new skatepark. No need for tricks. I just miss seeing you on a bike in any way. It has been a bit and hopefully the COVID fatigue isn't hitting you too hard. Thanks for all you guys do!

I used to race with this kid named Pat with one leg. He used one clip pedal, no prosthetic. He was fricken FAST, too.

21 years ago, Dave Norie found our little group of riders at the skateparks around southern oregon and asked if we wanted to do the Ashland OR. bike jam. We helped with building ramps and did the jump demo's with him. He was/is a legend. It's awesome to see him still going. He does a lot for bike riding in OR too.

That bike at 8:30 used to keep me awake at night! I lost a lot of school classes and sleep dreaming about that bike. Wow it evoked a visceral feeling when I saw it at 7:43. Crazy.

It was my dream bike, and I saved up enough to buy an 86 Master frame and fork from Rockville BMX. Selling that bike in 2005 is one of my all time biggest regrets.

I'm just a little South of you in Gloucester County.. My hey-day was when Norie was killing it for Haro in the '80s. Miami Hoppers was the trick of the day during one summer and everyone was doning them.. :) Some of the best years of my life (I'm 54 now) were my BMX days. I still have my last bike hanging in the garage- a white Hutch Trickstar.

Dave Nourie doing a Gumby is what hooked me into a flatland back in 84’. I find it funny that Matty does so many tricks my 51 year old self could never do but I could bust out a Miami Hopper easily even today. Nice job on the video here, you made my day with this.

Nourie is a legend, had been around since the first wave of big time pro riders. Dave and Joe Ciccman(?) Have a KZbin channel called Fact or Freestyle, old dogs like myself enjoy it.. Some good stories from the 80s that the magazines could only hint at. Thanks for featuring this discipline of the sport Scotty! I remember watching the Dorkin videos when they came out

I love that he just has a giant concrete pad in his backyard as a "skatepark" that also duals as a basketball court. All you need is a bike and some flat land. The pure creativity of this sport is amazing.

Holy cow! This really brings back a flood of memories! I’m 43 years old almost 44, and the movie rad was a huge inspiration. Seeing these guys from the 80s really brings back a flood of memories and emotions. Thank you so much for filming this! It was so fun to watch! Laughed uncontrollably! Btw the skate park at your parents house is awesome! A dream come true for anyone! Thanks for what you do Scotty! I know things have been rough for you over the past 4-5 years, it’s great to see you in good spirits! I got his autograph in 85 at Kettering or Columbus for a Haro demo. Couple years I got to talk to Wilkerson at another demo. Which was like meeting Michael Jordan, Eddie Van Halen and Tony Hawk at the same time.

@@WOHBuckeye That's awesome. Yeah, growing up no doubt, it was exactly like that. I got to meet RL Osbourn a few months ago and felt the same way. So many of these guys were our heroes growing up and had HUGE impacts on our riding careers and helped us cultivate our love for BMX to this day.

These guys are awesome. Historians on two wheels, giving credit to the origins of each trick and showing their own flair and take on each one while keeping the traditions alive. Flatland has blown my mind since I was a young boy!

thats incredible ! i had to quit skateboarding in my 30's cause my body just could not take the abuse . its amazing to see these guys doing bmx tricks into their 50's . Scotty and team thank you for the coverage of the york flatland jam.

It's probably the "easier" form of BMX with regards to abuse/impact on your body, you're bikes constantly on flat ground so if you do fall you probably aren't falling very fast or hard unlike park riding where there can be a whole lot of speed and drops from heights involved with the bonus of possibly getting tangled up in the frame when you crash...i liken flatland to the equivalent of freestyle skateboarding, its still impressive as hell, but a less risky form of the sport.

These guys make it look easy, I use to try flatland and never pulled off anything like that. You really have to be dedicated to it, it's a practice everyday for a few years kind of skill.

I could do basic stuff and I had decent balance. What these guys could do and are still doing - it’s super human. I think if more park guys got into riding flatland it would bring a lot of innovation to the park style. Flatland and vert always traded off each other.

Flatland was always an attractive riding style because you didn't need some fancy ramps or well designed area. You just found a basketball court or a parking lot and spent the day attempting to duplicate the tricks you saw someone else do. I never felt like a great rider, but I was always entertained. I have so much to say that I'm speechless! I'm 45 and to see even older guys TEARING it up! WOW! You see vert you see street and while they are amazing Flatland/Freestyle and Trials riding are crazy on a whole different plane and I think part of it is the obscurity. BTW Scotty I love your personality! You're personality adds even more to content! Your such a great representation of the sport! This vid was gold from start to end and I especially love these "old meets new or vice versa" content but all your vids are great. I've been in and out on your channel but finally SMASHED the like and subscribe buttons!

Thanks for the great video. Took me back to my childhood and the reason I fell in love with BMX. The nostalgia factor was at an all time high.

this flatland and of course RAD is what hooked me in the 8os. . . so much nostalgia! it is also super awesome seeing Scotty watching these guys that were in the generation before him and, " I " .. and im sure, Scotty; probably seen these guys in magazines , like i did as a kid. . . the excitement is almost unparalleled in sports. . sooooooooo damn cool peace, eturn
