This is one of the reasons that I chose a Japanese sports car that was assembled entirely in Japan with Japanese sourced parts. My car, which I bought new, is hitting 65k miles and I've changed the oil every 3k miles, with an extended gentle break-in and early oil changes during the first 3k miles. My engine took about 15k miles to fully break in, during which it consumed about 3 to 4 oz of oil at the end of 3k miles. After that, the oil consumption, as indicated on the dipstick, is zero at 3k mile intervals. There is virtually no accumulation of residue on the insides of the exhaust tips, indicating a clean-burning engine. The engine operates smoothly and quietly, with no abnormal noise from the engine. Wear metal levels(iron, copper, lead, tin and aluminum) after two used engine oil analyses are in the very low range. Go watch the video of an interview with the lead Nisan engineer who designed the GTR engine about his philosophy on engine oil change intervals. Basically, the duration of an engine's life is proportional to the frequency of oil changes. The manufacturer's goals(as a profit making business) of engine longevity are not necessarily the same as yours, as the end user.

Thats idiotic over a long period. Most cars can last well over 200k miles with oil changes at 7000-8000 miles, so if you’re doing it every 3k miles you are spending a lot of money. Assuming an oil change costs 50 bucks, then you would be spending almost 2000 dollars more on oil and filters than if you just changed it at 7000 miles. You can get a lot of engine work done for 2000 dollars :). Also, thats not even counting the amount of time you are spending changing the oil, which is also a significant amount of time that can be better spent.

My girlfriend owned a Range Rover. She lived almost 2 hours from a dealer, Aristocrat Motors. It spent a lot of time on the back of a tow truck being towed to Aristocrat Motors. ( if you thought you were being overcharged, they would give you a free cup of cappuccino). I had a HVAC company for 37 years. I always bought Dodge cargo vans which were great vans, better than Chevy or Ford. Then Daimler bought Chrysler and replaced it with the Mercedes Sprinter. I thought “Great! Almost double the fuel economy and hey, it will last forever, it’s a Mercedes!” WRONG. The worst trucks I ever owned. Everything about them was junk. Always in the shop, and after Daimler sold Chrysler, we had to go to, you guessed it, Aristocrat Motors! I had to junk one at 126,000 miles. I called a salvage yard I was familiar with. They said parts are hard to sell off them. I asked why, he said everyone is junking them. I sold the one that still ran right away.

No problems and I rack miles skiing and for work. They are not the old Range Rovers of the past. My 2022 Westminster recommends oil changes once every 25,000 miles! I change at 10k miles.

Bought a new 2018 CRV ( I know )for my better 1/2, I took the car in for a LOF ( Lube Oil Filter) at 750 miles. Dealer looked at me like I was high:), I take it in every 3,500 for LOF as that is my once a year change, I do it yearly now as I don't quite drive 3,500 every year. I have a 05 Sequoia and do the same thing, LOF at 3,500 miles. (Mobile 1) Oil in that rig is still clear up to 2,000 miles then starts to turn dark. We do about 10K a year on the Sequoia. EDIT............. BTW..... I take the wife's vehicles in for service and repairs ( none yet on the CRV , so far so good ). Back in the 80s she owned a 82 RX-7, that thing was a high maintenance ride. Everytime I worked on it something else would pop up. ( blasted RX-7 ) She would always give me that look then... why didn't you fix that? ... So ever since the RX-7 I do not work on her cars. I still do most all maintenance on my rides:)

Scotty. We purchased a 2011 Subaru Outback new. I changed the oil after the first 1000-1500 miles. That car went on to serve us for 11 years and 160,000 miles. It did not destroy the engine. I Did the same thing with our 2018 crosstrek and it just passed 100,000 miles. Did it with 2022 forester that we replaced the outback with and expect zero problems with that car too. Just an FYI as to why I don’t think you’re right on this one.

Exactly Scott change the oil & filter in any new vehicle, which I did for my 2023 Lexus ES300h. I had the oil & filter changed at 1,000 miles and then every six months since. This is basically an in-town driven vehicle, thus I don't wait for 5,000 miles to change the oil & filter. Latest (4th. oil & filter change at 15,263) I am using Idemitsu IFG 5 0W16 full synthetic Japanese vehicle-specific oil and a High-Performance Brand 2023 Lexus ES300h Oil Filter PG4476EX oil filter. Idemitsu IFG 5 is the next evolution, a new high-premium oil formulated with the benefits of Quintet Guard: fluidity, adaptivity, smoothness, responsiveness, and durability to maximize performance, minimize friction, and keep engines cleaner. IFG 5 0W-16 SP/GF-6B is a fully synthetic, ultra-low viscosity formulation for hybrid and fuel-efficient gasoline vehicles with robust additive technology for OEM-specific extended drain intervals and emission system protection.

Shavings are already stuck in bearings and slowly deteriorating. Speeding up the deterioration process. The rest is just a gamble until the engine dies. Could be 1 year or 10! You talk about the aluminium engine Vega fro Chevrolet. What else would you expect from Garbage Motors? I don't trust anything they make. Talking about Fiat, a lot of youngsters think the 500 is a new model. Nope!! It's a modern variant of one from years long since gone. When I was working at Prestige Automotive in Adelaide South Australia, I pulled the engine from an old Fiat 500 "Bambino". Bloody things only 2 cylinder jobs you can tuck under one arm & walk away with it.

I live in Alabama close to where those engines are made and know people who work there. They are constantly under the scrutiny of the Japanese .
