I’ve owned my 2010 Nissan Maxima SV for ten years. I purchased it back in 2012 when it was only two years old and it had 39,000 miles on. In 2016, my CVT was replaced at 99,000 miles due to Nissan extending the warranties on certain 09-10 Maxima’s. It didn’t show signs of slippage, but Nissan ran some test and determined it met their requirements and plus my extended warranty was abt to expire so I had my dealership complete any work that was covered until warranty. Since I live in Las Vegas, the heat from our extreme summer temps played a role in my cvt needed to be replaced. I haven’t had any major issues with my Maxima nor has it left me stranded. Every two years, my Nissan battery seems to die, but it’s still covered under Nissans warranty. Now, my maxima is sitting at 178,000 trouble free miles. It’s sad that Nissan is discontinuing it’s flagship sedan. I will not trade this car in anytime soon. I’ll keep until the wheels fall off. Everything is in still working condition. Despite the negative reviews abt the CVT, I actually love it especially paired to this VQ35DE v6 motor. It makes a nice sound under acceleration and it drives smooth. This is one of the best cars I’ve owned in my 22 years of driving. Thank you Nissan for building a solid, reliable and well built vehicle for the last 42 years.

I bought my 2010 and 2012 with the same mileage just like you did. Currently it only has 47,000 mi on it because I hardly ever drive it. Only use it when the wife and I want to dress up and go somewhere nice. I hope to one day put a 6-speed manual transmission in it but that's going to be some serious cash.

I bought a 2010 maxima in 2019 for 6000 with 150k miles, now it has 190k + with the original CVT and haven’t had a problem. I beat the crap out the car and it hasn’t left me stranded. Simply maintain the car, GET oil changes and replace what worn and it will last. With its 290+ hp 3.5 engine and somewhat comfortable interior I would definitely recommend this as a great used car. Try and find one with the SV (Standard Value) package it will give you a big backup camera with nav, Bluetooth audio, 9 speaker BOSE system, dual sunroof, leather, heated steering, ventilated - heated driver seat and a rear power sunshade. Mine has a rare center arm rest in the back with radio and climate controls you can also find if you’re into that. I’m so disappointed that Nissan is discontinuing their flagship sedan and not dropping one of the other 3 cheaper sedans they offer. I personally feel the Maxima would sell better with a full proper redesign and an AWD option. I would say the Maxima is more luxurious than any modern Infiniti sedan.

One of big reasons why I love Crown Vics and Grand Marquis/Town Cars is that if you need to you can get a good factory reman engine or transmission for a lot less than most late model engines or transmissions and chances are they will outlast them too. You just really can't beat Old School.

On 9-30-2020 she gave it to her younger sister that had just turned 17. My granddaughter drives it daily now to work and college. It now has 230K miles .Never had anything but routine maintenance. It's a Rogue Select which were made in Japan. (but the parts are all the same quality, just fit and finish might be better). Even though it was assembled in Japan, it came with the same parts as Rogue's made here which was kind of disappointing. (Same crappy batteries, same crappy Valeo altnernator). But it was assembled in Kyushu Japan so I like it for a Rogue.

Drain and fill your CVT fluid every 10,000 miles. Switch to Castrillón CVT fluid. The Nissan CVT fluid is garbage and is why their Jatco sourced CVTs fail so prematurely. To really protect your CVT, install an auxiliary transmission fluid cooler in front of the radiator.

Wife had 2006 Maxima SE. Loved it except when you accelerated rapidly, the FWD torque almost ripped the steering wheel out of your hands. In 2016, traded for a 2013 Infiniti G37x. Man, what a great deal. Maxima was fun…G37 is funner. Wife says she’ll drive her Infiniti until the wheels fall off and since it only has 80,000 miles could be awhile. I checked it and the fluid was burnt in every meaning of the word. I prayed and changed the fluid and viola, everything is going good. That was like almost 100,000 miles so it was way overdue . I just changed the fluid again, at 156,000 miles. Just change the fluid, for some reason Nissan wants it's customers to think that the transmission is sealed and the fluid is good for the life of the car. Scotty, please tell folks that on a CVT, if you change the fluid every 30-40 thousand miles, it can, and will make it last forever. We did this on a 2008 Rogue SL, and traded it at 422,000 miles. Never did slip, but the 4 wheel drive axle had problems, so it was time for a trade. The CVT is just like anything else, you have to take care of it, and, you should never treat it like a hot rod.

I recently sold my 2007 Murano with the 3.5V6 and CVT. I also had my CVT fluid changed at 60k and 120k miles... I sold it with ~180k miles on it and it still had the original CVT. The fluid still looked clean when I sold it but I advised the new owner to get it changed. It was FWD so perhaps it put less strain on the internals. It was also made in Japan so maybe that helped. It still had a nice interior and everything worked. I had to replace a power steering hose/oil cooler gasket/motor mounts but had no other major issues. It never broke down on me or left me stranded. I admit I was nervous about the CVT and did not want to push my luck so that is why I sold it... also I got a lot of $$$ for it with the stupid high used car prices. I have known a number of people with certain model year Altimas who have gone through multiple CVTs so it seems certain models/years are more problematic.

The area I live in good luck finding a sedan. All new vehicles on lots are trucks, sport utilities and cross overs.

I love sedans. Australia no longer makes the Holden Commodore or the Ford Falcon and the last few models were world class and tremendous value for money. An American friend of mine who lived here 15 or so years ago wanted to take back to the US a Ford Falcon XR8 as he loved it and a US moto journalist tested an Falcon XR6 Turbo and closed the article, 'Thanks Ford, we now know what we are missing'.

I would personally never choose an suv over a coupe or sedan or wagon.
