I had my check engine light on my 08 cobalt, took it to the dealer, they scan it and they came out with a repair total of almost $400, they told me what was wrong, did my research on forums, found it and I fixed myself for $98 in about 10 minutes or so. I just change the intake mass air flow sensor and 2 camshaft sensors. Thank you for the advice.

That's why I drive a Toyota: great service from the dealer! My dad had the headlights replaced of his 2003 Avensis 2.4 Executive (xenon) because of faded lenses. Although the car was 11 years old, Toyota said it didn't meet the quality standard of their brand, so it was replaced on their costs.

Good point concerning the code reader. Has saved me lots of money working on my old truck (2002 Toyota Tundra SR5). I think it save me a ton of loot when the 02 sensors went over the course of many years of ownership. I know the maintenance light is easy to reset... just perform the recommended service and reset. This info can be found in the owners manual. Quick Question: Do you recommend purchasing one of these code scanners?? I know most part stores (Autozone and Advanced Auto) will scan your vehicle for free.

Hey scotty! Love your videos...I have a 98 automatic Dodge avenger with 122k miles. When going 15mph or higher, there's a whining noise coming from the engine when I give it gas. When I let go the noise is gone... Car idles fine, and i've checked for any vacuum leaks.

Scotty, great video. Is it just a reminder or does it change anything in the ECM. Thinking more about oil reset.. will the engine adjust any parametres/specs on car air/engine readings to make it run better. Therefore is it best to do it with a good obd2 scan tool?

Hey Scotty. I got a new Subaru WRX 7 months ago. I changed the oil once, but here in Michigan, it started snowing and getting cold this week. Now the check engine oil light has popped on, and I smell burning oil/leaking gas smell in the car sometimes and in the garage. Do you have any idea what it could be? I'm not sure if the weather has anything to do with it, but that's the only variable that has really changed recently. My driving, commute, etc are the same.

aka "Idiot Lights?" My 58' Chevy truck has none. The only vehicle I own that has a check engine light is my 2001 Triumph Motorcycle. I was getting a momentary misfire on one of the 3 cylinders.Check engine light came on.Plugged in scan tool, # 3 coil fail. If this bike did not have obd 2, It would have been almost impossible to get coil to fail to determine which coil it was.And coils are $150 each! Great advice as always!

Hey Scotty, can you make a video on how to fix the emergency lights? My car's emergency lights won't active front and back when I hit the switch. Also I'm having a problem with my passenger window. When the passenger wants to raise the window, the button won't work. It only works when the window is lowered. I have to raise the window from my end but it goes up really slow. My 2004 olsmobile alero feels as if the breaks are sticking. My aunt had replaced the brakes and tires of the car right before she boughta new car. It was sitting for about 3 months. Other than oil changes, filter, and sparkplug replacement its a solid car. It just when I pull my foot off the gas pedal the car starts to slow down, slowly but if i don't push the gas the car would probably roll to a stop. I'm thinking the brakes were put on too tight! What do you think??

Scotty, the Tire Pressure Monitoring Light (TPMS) light on my 2010 Hyundai Sonata GLS with 81,000 miles came on yesterday. The tires were rotated just four days earlier. The low tire pressure light is off. Tire pressure when it came on was 32 psi, and I raised the pressure to 35 psi to see if it would make a difference. It didn't. The advice I've received so for is: 1. ignore it. 2. Put electrical tape over the light. 3. Remove the battery cable to reset the light. 4.Take it to the dealer who will reset it for an arm and a leg. Should I take it to the dealer (or is there another shop you could recommend ie Midas, Valvoline...?)

I get the same P1071 for my 1996 Pontiac Bonneville. It runs beautifully, only occasionally I'll reach 45-55 and there will be a stutter. I simply release the accelerator and tap the break and it goes away. My check engine light will come on for a day or two and then just simply disappear for a day or a week. Will my car be ok? I just bought the car and it's such a comfortable ride.

In our 1998 Toyota HiAce the T-BELT light recently came on to say that the timing belt should be changed. But it was recently changed - the mechanic just didn't reset the counter. In modern models with digital display it's just pressing and holding some buttons in the correct order. But in our car you'll have to get behind the dash, take out a screw from it's hole and move it into the hole right next to it. And the next time you change the belt it's the same procedure, but you move the screw back. Kinda crazy job for a simple maintenance light, so we'll just ignore it.

Hey Scotty I have 2005 Infiniti G 35 and airbag light keeps blinking. I connected an Ob2 scanner to check any codes but nothing comes up. Any ideas on what it could be ? I had same two problems on my Volvo S40 2000 I managed to reset service light. But engine warning is still annoying. light comes up if engine is ruining on neutral for several minutes and turns itself off strangely enough when I push brake pedal. (never thought brake system is involved since it has its own warning light)

i have a 2013 VW Passat. yesterday all of the warning lights came on and off again and again. i pulled into a parking lot and had to pull into a tire block to stop the car because the breaks weren't working.then the car stopped. i got a ride home but now need to get car fixed.. Boocho88 Yes Mercedes has recalls but they never really make it to the news (Google Mercedes recall). Mercedes owners have more money so they typically always take their cars to the dealer for maintenance. At that time, the tech will perform any recall work. Also, Mercedes sells a tiny fraction compared to say a Toyota. So, Toyota will have like a 5 million car recall, while Mercedes will have a 50 thousand car recall.

Ok Mr. Elitist Boocho88 not everyone will choose to spend over 50k on a car which looses 1/2 its value in 3 years. Not everyone will choose to spend over $1000 a year on maintenance in addition to fuel costs. Yeah they're quick and catch a lot of eyes but the money saved not using a gas guzzling money pit can be put to better use like hmmm family, kids, education, housing or even charity. Why pay a dealer $800 for a job guys like Scotty Kilmer can do for far less.

jstuttgart hey man i have a mercedes from 2001 i payed 15000 euros for it 2nd hand in germani in 2003 i have it now 500.000 km (diesel) works like a charm and never seen the inside of a dealership sins i have it. I onli change oil and filter every 10.000 km and the only warning light i had on is the window washer fuid it has the original cluch and last winter i changed the batteri for the 1st time btw dos 47 mpg whit a 2.2l engine :P

I think a lot of the high wear parts inside an engine are usually non-ferrous anyway aren't they? So it might not work like the magnet in a transmission or diff where all the gears are ferrous steel.

Scotty I have a huge question I can not find an answer too. Yesterday a buddy and I put a Yonaka Catback Exhaust system on my 2000 honda civic ex coupe. It sounded and drove fine, but about an hour later the car stopped working. The cars lights would start up but each time I hit the break or tried starting it, there is a click and the lights turn off and on again. Also the headlights are very weak when in use and there is no power to the radio.

I have the same code P0741 on my 74k miles 2007 malibu 2.2 , the code appears (i delete the code after it appears) at highway speeds. I'm experiencing occasional rough shifts. I've been told it could be a valve body problem (TCC Selenoid and/or debris in the valve body)

Scotty, I just had my oil and oil filter changed on my 2002 Acura TL and now my (red) Low Oil Pressure Indicator light has come on, my oil level is full (on the upper mark of the dipstick) and there is no leaks under the car. Some guys on the Acura forums are saying if the oil level is full then it has to be the Oil Pressure Sensor/Sender, what do you think?

My lights flicker in my Honda Civic, when I disconnect neg ground when car is running flickering stops also stops if I pull fuse for alternator. Alternator and battery test good, batt is brand new. Bad ground or bad diode in alt causing the flicker, it also stops flickering with blower fan on high at a low engine idle

either you have bad ground wires, OR the alternator is bad. Normally an alternator in that honda, have a real pro mechanic load test the alternator, cheap tests won't find that

many things can make such noises, from tires to struts to suspension bushings. Get 4 guys in the car, each listening to the sound to pinpoint it. And, see my video "finding the source of car noises"

odds are you have a leak in the tire, IF the tread is worn down, replace it. If not, have it patched

Hey Scott, I have a question about torque converter, im experiencing gear 5 to 6 shift flare around 42mph upshift. It only flares when im light on throttle and upshift below 2k rpm. Rpm will flare up 300 to 500 before it shifts, feel like car got put in neutrel. I noticed above 2k rpm it will not flare. I looking around internet and found it might be related to torque converter locking up in low rpm? i dont know if its true, whats your take on it? My car is a 13' Mustang Automatic.

it could be that, but being such a new car, tons of info is stored in the transmission computer, have it scanned by a pro and see what they come up with. And really, take it to a ford dealer under warranty for such work

Scotty Kilmer Im asking these car tune company regarding my issues and they all seem to point to stock tune issues rather mechanic. I do find it weird it would only flare with light throttle. Then theres this torque converter idea of it locking up on such low rpm from 5-6.

I need help lol, my maintenance required light turned on and my car won't start. I don't know too much but have checked wires oil n trans fluid all good what can it be? I have a 95 Acura Integra auto. Please help.
