I remember back in the 80s and 90s Nissans were really solid. Their reliability and overall quality was about as good as Toyota or Honda.

I had 07 Altima which was fantastic except for the body quality. I had it garaged kept and it still kept rusting. The drivetrain was good though, 160k miles and no problems there.

Nissan was great up until about 2010 or so. I own a Nissan and Infiniti from 06 and 09, and they both have over 160,000 with no serious problems. I have no idea what happened to modern cars lol

I drove a 93 Nissan truck for twenty two years sold it to a friend and he is driving it to work today and bought a 2006 Altima sold it to the same friend in 2014 and his mother is driving the car today 03/08/24. Both vehicles were trouble free and as reliable as the three Honda's and Toyota I drive today.

Yea, how many miles on it when you go rid of it? That's the part you left out. I had an 2003 Altima and it lasted for 150,000 miles. Those last 30,000 miles were filled with lots of repairs. The car was totaled in an accident. Otherwise, I would probably be stupidly paying for repairs to keep it going.

JLR products are an embarrassment here in the UK. Horror stories of engines grenading just out of warranty and JLR refusing to take any responsibility. People buying cars for £40k+ minimum and then being told a complete new engine required after only, say, 35k miles and 3.5 years. £15k+. The entire company deserves to go down the toilet.

I bought a low mileage 06 Altima for my son as his first car in 2012. He drove it like was a rental, got in a couple fender benders, but the car kept ticking. By the time he got rid of it it had over 170K on it. The thing was a tank. Weird CVT sounds, but it never broke down.

I’ve decided to choose the 2018-19 Odyssey over same years Sienna. I’ve been watching a Toyota mechanic talk about the most common issues with the Sienna’s 3.5L engine. I owned a 2009 Odyssey with 266,000 miles on it didn’t have many issues. It did start burning some oil at 200,000 miles about a half a quart between 3000 mile oil changes.. I wouldn’t have an occasional engine code with misfiring on those back three cylinders that burned a little oil, but other than that the van was very solid. From what I hear Honda has improved their rings on their pistons.

That was on the Honda 1.5 turbo four. My 2022 has the naturally aspirated 2.0 and I love it. I do wish it had a stick, but since I bought it for long distant driving, it's not a big deal.

Many auto manufacturers have significantly gone downhill in quality . If you can , buy a pre 2002 Nissan. Had four Nissans in my lifetime. All exceeded 200,000 miles . Just sold my 93 Altima , 307,000 miles . Still ran strong .

They are junk! I own a 2014 maxima with 99000 miles on it . The CVT transmission was just replaced and then all the cam lobes wore off the camshafts despite keeping fresh clean synthetic oil in the crankcase. The motor was also replaced. 🔥 Nissans are now junk don't buy one.

Going on 121K on my 2015 Sentra, never seen the check engine light come on except for pne time in 2019 when I put bad gas in it. My daily driver after all these years, not a single skip with the start, engine, transmission. Excellent car.

The 2020+ nissan sedans don't seem to have many transmission problems at all. Compare that to the gm 6 and 8 speeds from 2019+ and all their problems already and I'd say these new cvt transmissions are better made than the horrendous last gen nissan sedan transmissions. Like mentioned here though. These new nissans have lots of electrical issues. My wife has a 2021 sentra so hopefully these will be know as reliable cars.

My Chevrolet Cavalier would once or twice a month throw up a bunch of random guage lights along with a dimming of the headlights. The fuel guage would even quit working when this anomaly happened. Thought it may be a bad ECM as well? Come to find out it was a bad ground coming from the battery. I never realized a bad ground would cause all those issues.

I work for a car rental agency. We have LOTS of Altima’s, and Rogue’s and Rogue Sports and Versa’s and Maxima’s. For the most part we have zero issues with them. The Titan’s we have had some issues but nothing major. Couple weeks back we had a ‘23 Rogue showing a cylinder misfire which was very surprising. If the price was right I’d own a Nissan but with car prices these days NO price is right.

I have a 2014 Nissan Maxima S with 152,000 miles so far. I bought it in 2020 with 67,000 miles on the odometer. I must admit, I've had a few problems with the CVT such as slipping and slow acceleration. I've changed the CVT fluid twice since I've owned the Maxima and the CVT is still going strong for now. Only other problem is the display screen pixels are sometimes lined out. I do all of own maintenance which probably is the main reason my Maxima is performing well.

Years ago had similar condition on a Mitsubishi Colt autobox (robotic manual box), All components lost communications intermittently, like all including the dash, Engine-ecu to the gearbox etc. The problem: The little unimportant clock/temperature display on the dash(!). the dealer got a used one from a salvage yard, 100 bucks for a "new" used one in and problem fixed, including labor. (200 in todays money). A rare case the official dealer was by far cheapest. All other garages wanted to replace about everything except that clock panel and thus NOT fix the problem after several thousands of euro's.

Just reset the ECM. Disconnect battery. Then cross the disconnected cables together for a few hours. Turn lights on to drain any power from the system. Reconnect and presto! Just be sure not to start it right away. Turnkey to on. wait a minute. Then start it and run a few miles. ECM needs to re-learn.

Water ingress to one of the gang connectors on that exposed ECM is my guess. I'd disconnect them and pack with dielectric compound or a moisture displacing spray product. These sorts of things happen on airliners a lot, and a much of the time you just reset and go, for problems that appear and don't come back for many hours after being cleared.

Nissan is japans Chrysler. The cars are horrible but the trucks are not bad. I have the 2019 nv 1500 it’s been a good van . No issues over 100k and it gets driven hard. It’s well maintained.

As a mechanic I can say I have found Chrysler products to be far better than some criticism suggests. GM is the biggest offender where domestic cars, especially Cadillac is concerned.The monstrosities they have foisted upon the public are just awful. The contrast between the Ford panther platform ( Town Car, Crown Victoria, ) and such wonders as the Northstar system is shocking.

Back in 2006 bought a Toyota Camry; wife wanted a 2006 Altima but I test drive both and could tell the obvious quality of the Toyota versus the Nissan (fit/finish, ride, intuitive controls, etc). We eventually sold the Camry a few years later before moving out of the country (only to return a few years later). Now 18 years later I still see so many ‘06 Camrys still on the road. Altimas?…none. Nuff said.

It's really hard sometimes working on people's vehicles. The vehicles seem to have ghosts in them or something, because they act funny at times... Like they have a mind of their own. A lot if times, a customer is complaining about a problem, and i drive the vehicle, and find zero wrong with the vehicle. They go driving, and it acts up. Weird.

It could be RF Radio Interference that comes from a strong radio station antenna when you drive by... I once affected my cars ECM by transmitting a radio signal from my ham radio equipment mounted inside the car..The car would actually slow down every time i pushed the microphone button.

The $100 bet: I'll bet you that the problem is a wire shorting out only when it's cold! They make the wiring looms so short these days, and don't run them through grommets. So when it gets cold and the copper shrinks, the wires pull themselves against the holes in the metal they normally don't touch stripping the insulation and eventually shorting out. But... only when the temps are below 30 degrees. I had this happen on a 1993 Dodge Intrepid where the interior lights would come on by themselves below 30 degrees and kill the battery. The wire was stripped and shorting where it passed into the trunk.

Scotty, I really enjoy your videos. I’m 76 yeas old and my father was a diesel mechanic for over-the-road 18 wheelers. He also had a side business as a regular auto mechanic with his own shop. I remember him telling me when I started driving if you keep the oil changed, new oil filter, and lube like you should (otherwise properly maintain your car) your car will last “forever”. Of course, this was way before we added all the electronic crap to vehicles. However, I do have a 2007 Nissan Quest van my wife bought new that now has 247,000 miles. Runs like a top but of course I have always followed my father’s advice. It’s just now beginning to have some minor issues….all related to the crappy electronics.

Fordtechmakuloco had a 2017 f150 that had multiple modules down. The fault was tail light assemblies holding water and corrosion in the elec connection to them screwing up over 30 modules. He replaced the tail light assemblies, wiring harness that runs between them. Parts were $5600.

The Nissan cruise control system (or rather, control system on the steering whel) is not very straight forward. Maybe it's just me coming from a Toyota but most vehicles I can figure it out pretty quickly (even non-Toyota). I mean the Toyota system isn't entirely foolproof either but at laest they maintain standards like most other companies like pressing "-" usually sets the cruise control speed (the "-" being decelerate on the cruise control controls).

Ccotty haven't you ever built or fixed someones pc? the first thing you do when diagnosing anything with shitloads of small terminals is pull all the main connectors reseat them. Wiggling the main ecm connector is probably what fixed it because the tiny tiny terminals that carry all that high speed low voltage data are very slightly slightly oxidized. Coppers expensive

My 23 Nissan Kicks did something similar and I never even got the car out of park in my driveway. I got it started and couldn't get it shifted before what I assume was the ECM lost communication and I got a malfunction message and another message telling me that the key wasn't detected even though I had it in my pocket. It was below 0 outside, the coldest day I've seen in memory and likely ever will see while owning this car. I was able to get the car shut off but not out of accessory mode for some reason. I let the battery drain overnight and it warmed up to like 5F. I was able to jump start the Kicks using my jumper pack and it started up and has been reliable ever since. Called the dealer and they blamed it on the cold.

Is the ECM in the engine compartment? If so you may need to leave a 100 watt incandescent bulb in a trouble light type fixture turned on under the car/ECM on winter nights? Perhaps a car cover over the whole car to keep that heat in? Check with that dealer if there is a reprogramming of the ECU for that problem later this year?

Nissans are great vehicles extremely reliable and their electronics rarely fail. this guy obviously works for Toyota. He actually said once that Jatco makes terrible FWD automatic transmissions. Avery mechanic knows their automatics are the most reliable in the industry. 307k on my maxima auto no problems and thousands of others just like me online

ECM warranty is 8/80 replacement and software. Think you're on the right track, def needs to go to the dealer.

I have owned 4 Nissans and also bought 2 for my daughter and have always said these cars are perfect for about 5 years then everything falls apart. If you buy a 4 or 5 year old Nissan get ready to dish out a lot of money. The only way to deal with this issue is get that 4 or 5 year old Nissan for free !

All the manufacturers put the computers beside the engine or under the hood somewhere now. My 2022 corolla has the computer in the exact same spot as that nissan…. So toyota isn’t any better.

All nissan batteries go bad after 2yrs. Have interstate battery hook u up. I use to have issues every 2hrs. Now battery last at least 6yrs

Best car right now. I’m thinking is Mazda CX 90. Actually watching them and thinking about buying one. Step son just totaled a Altima. Car did great in an accident. He walked away. T bone some at 55. Other driver had to be cut out. My son got out of his car and walked around. Sore and shaken up pretty good. But the car did I great.

'Jatco' is Nissan's company: Jatco makes Normal AT's, DCT's, CVT's and automated manual transmissions. It's always best to research a vehicle before u buy it 🤷

The problems with Nissans and those cvt transmissions is simple. The hood races them and those cvts aren't designed like a standard transmission. Those bands will go pop or loosen from all the tension put on it.
