i drive a fiat punto evo 67 bhp.. actually i live in a town and i drive only below 60 km per hour and i only drive 30 minutes a day..so i think braking won't be a problem..my doubt is.. will keeping clutch pressed fully during most of the journey damage it?? I thought it won't damage it because we fully press clutch often for gear change.. please share your thoughts..

Actually, the Avalon is "worth its weight in gold" when bought *BRAND NEW.* However, when you're looking at used cars, the equivalvent Lexus, the *ES 350,* is a much better buy, because it depreciates much more (being a luxury car), and the _price difference_ is not nearly as signficant (very small actually), compared to when these cars were new!

If you can find a 2003-2004 low milage one I guarantee you will love it. It’s basically a Lexus with Toyota badging. Because they have some age on them you can get one for a good price. I have a 2006 Avalon! Great car 😁 If you're looking to purchase one from 2005 to 2009(sometimes 2010) Check to see if it has the combination rubber and metal rear bank VVTi oil line, it has a possibility of bursting causing your engine to lose all of it's oil. The procedure to replace the old combo rubber/metal line with the full metal oil line is not too bad of a job. But just something to look out for if you're looking at an Avalon from those years 🙂 UPDATE: An issue that can happen to the Avalons (or any Toyota vehicle using the U151E transaxle) is that solenoids that control the 2-3 shift go bad, resulting in bump shifting or flaring. In my case, the transmission would shift sluggishly between 2 and 3, and I assumed it was because of the mileage on the transmission; it otherwise operated fine, and I drained and filled the transmission fluid every spring. But as it turns out, it eventually wore out the 2-3 clutch packs to the point where I would get slippage at higher RPM, and it was shedding metal in the transmission fluid. I was able to replace the valve body in the transmission and baby it for another 2.7k miles, at which point it was still very drivable, but I am putting in a used transmission now with 110k. The original transmission lasted for 215k miles

The hybrid will be a bit noisy because it’s a hybrid. My 13 Camry LE rides smoother than a 13 Avalon. best advice i ever got when i got my first motorcycle (at age 18, cuz i would not defy my mother) was get a sub 250 rice grinder. so i bought a honda 250 twinstar. best bike i ever had. great, easy handling and tolerant of my rookie mistakes. the ct90'ish step throughs are fun too. i've ridden bmw's for well over 30 years now, but only buy the old ones. you learn to keep your head on a swivel, and learn the basics. educate yourself, and you'll mostly be ok. you can't control everything though.

The old 3.0 liter V6 engine in the Avalon uses a timing belt - something to avoid. Also, the valve cover gaskets leak, and knock sensors go out when they get old - think early 2000s Avalons.

I can't say enough good things about Toyota Avalon. I was told at the Toyota dealership that the V6 engine was a Lexus design that they put in the Avalon first before moving it to the Lexus models. I bought a 2001 brand new for a little over $30,000 and put 325,838 miles on it (a little over 9 cents a mile on the purchase price). Sold it this year (2020) for $2500. Did have the transmission replaced at 260,000 miles with a used one having 60,000 miles on it for a little over $2000. Other than brakes, tires, and a few sensors there were very few other major repairs (ignition did fail at about 200,00 and had to be replaced at a cost of about $800). When I sold the car the heated leather seats still worked and it basically drives and rides almost as good as when it was new. If you are buying an older one check to make sure the timing belt has been replaced and verify at what mileage as the engine is an interference design that has a bad failure mode if the timing belt happens to snap. I never had this problem replaced the timing belt once in 2011 and still running well when I sold it.

Had a '83 Honda CB1100F - one of the first Superbikes. A great bike but the starter motor clutch springs often weakened and failed which caused the starter to disengage (not turn/start)... I had to go to the local supermarket on a few occasions and buy BIC pens so I could take the springs out and install them in the starter clutch so I could get the bike to start up, LOL [insert your choice of the obligatory Scotty laughing animal picture here]. Of course, the pen springs weren't made of the same material as the OEM starter springs, but it did work for a few days.

If you have kids and a decent car, get a portable battery powered shop vac, like ryobi's small 18volt one. Get home, pop a battery in it, carry it out, vacuum food up in the car in 5 minutes, go back inside. Time saver and easy and light to use.

I had a problem with mice eating my wiring so bad that the car ( Avalon ) wouldn’t start, had it taken to my dealer where they patched up the harness and everything worked fines and I moved over 110 miles south to a subdivision (I was originally in heavily woody subdivision ) ,so I go out one day and nothing when I press start ! , I have it trucked to the dealer again- more mice and worse than the first time ! , the service manager convinced me to replace the whole a wiring harness because it was all sealed up and the patched up one was giving off a smell that drew the mice, replaced the whole thing (over $2500)and got my insurance company to pay for it ! Loved that guy ! , worked like a new one until I ran over a suicidal Mexican one night and totaled it

Scotty, I bought my 2009 Avalon because i fit in it. I am 6'5" . I wanted a Camry but didn't fit behind the steering wheel. To me the main differeces between the 2 models is size and ride. The Avalon rides as nice as the Lexus ES350 in my opinion. The only part replaced in the first 131,000 miles was the steering rack. There was fluid showing on the bottom of the rack and seemed to be working okay but I was planning a 1500 mile drive and think that steering is as important as braking. i am looking forward to another 130,000+ miles of driving in comfort.

If you are buying a new car off a lot in the south check the tires. Pay attention during the test drive if it is a previous year model because that high heat and the short few months of cold will really mess with the tires if it was rarely test driven. Look at that odometer.

We just totaled our 2009 Nissan Versa 1.6 with the 5 speed manual. The insurance company is giving us nearly $6000 for it. The 5 spd manuals are definitely worth more both in driving value and actual monetary value. Had close to 100k on it and we had zero problems other than routine maintenance. We replaced it with an Avalon. lol

Mice got to my Tacoma. They ate through most of the wires to the wiper motor, but left one that carried power so I was fooled. It was only after buying a new wiper motor and stalk that I finally found the real problem. Another thing I did was install battery maintainers in both my vehicles. I got the kind that mounts permanently and installed an AC power inlet so I don't even have to open the hood. Almost hated to do it, but I just drilled a hole in the plastic skirt under the front bumper in front of the wheel. I just plug it in overnight once every week or two.

I shopped the Avalon, Acura TLX 3.5L, Camry XSE/XLE 3.5L, Accord 2.0T('18-'19 models), and ended up with a '18 Camry XLE V-6. Seats in the Accord and TLX were too firm(and too small in the Accord). Avalon was thousands of dollars more. I gave the Chevy Impala a try, but just wasn't impressed. '18 Buick Regal was impossible to find, but I did like it.

Chinese drivers are a bit reckless. From what I've seen in Flushing, to riding a Chinese cab, and from watching Chinese dashcam videos, Chinese drivers tend to drive aggressively - stopping short, flooring from a stoplight, zig-zagging thru highway traffic, driving fast on rough pavement, etc. It's no surprise that Tesla sees the issue more in China than in the US.
