Back in the 80s and 90s a lot of american cars where reliable and long lasting. Had a Jeep XJ Cherokee from 1996, drove it till 2020, then sell it with a broken turbocharger. Rust was an issue, but you won´t find any other brand which had no rust issue when the cars get 20 years old. I love this Chevy. The old owner earns all my respect for taking care on that vehicle as it looks very nice for its age and mileage. I live in Europe, but american cars where always the stuff of dreams. This Chevy shows why. Plenty of space, build like a tank and comfortable inside. Sadly they don´t make them anymore. But I hope US companies will change their minds and return to old values.

For as good as they were/are there were two common problems with those vehicles along with the pickup trucks and Tahoes or GMC Yukon in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s. The 350 cu in./5.7L Vortec V8 had a habit of getting an intake manifold gasket leak that if you didn’t catch it soon enough would mix coolant with oil and wreck the engine when it got into the cylinders. The leak was usually towards the rear of the engine and the external leak would run down over the transmission mission and bell housing which if you paid attention to little puddles on the ground would save you from disaster. Once you got a good after market gasket there were generally no more problems. The other problem was the 4L60E transmission which would fail without warning. Most common failure was the center sun shell gear at anywhere from 75-150K miles. We had that happen on a 2000 Tahoe at around 157K. We had it rebuilt by a local transmission shop with a great reputation using all the latest updates and high quality parts. They warrantied it for 5 years or 50,000 miles. We got 80,000 out of it before that transmission failed again. My wife (main driver who drove it about 40 miles round trip to work every day) and I are very careful, conservative drivers. On the rare occasions we pulled a trailer with it, we made sure it was in tow mode and not over loaded. The owner of that transmission shop told me that the 4L60E keeps him in business. Second is the 5 and 6 speed transmission found in Ford Explorer. If you have one of these vehicles, put money aside for those repairs. Otherwise they are great. The newer GM 5.3L V8 is a better overall engine but not as good low end torque for pulling as the 350 Vortec IMHO.

It’s a 2004 with 268000 miles on it.other than the water pump going out and new tires, it hasn’t cost anything.. cost them $2800 to buy it. It’s got the 5.3 which usually is pretty bulletproof. I just gave it to my deputy and they gave t me a 2015 suburban with the 5.3. I expect to drive it until I retire in 4 years. It will then go to the new coroner and last for another 20 years. Should have never sold my 99 GMC Yukon SLT. Only had 114k and was a CA no rust truck!

Even being thirsty, compared to making vehicle and insurance payments on some new way overpriced junk, the savings on buying a good solid "antique " for a good price, with cheaper priced parts, etc , you can buy a lot of gas and still have a better vehicle

Rust is what kills them i loved my 05 Suburban but man i got tired of popping brake lines and i have to drive far. If it sits it rots. Popping a gas line was the last straw

$10k was a steal for that truck in current markets.

I'm glad you made this video, I can recall when I was homeless and faced with many things in life until $75,000 biweekly began rolling in and my Life went from A homeless nobody to a different person with good things to offer!!!!!!!!!.

After raising 325k from trading with her, I bought a new house and car here in the states and also paid for my son's (Oscar) surgery, Glory be to God. Shalom

That looks like new. I have an ‘09 vehicle that’s never been garaged in that condition and I thought it was unusual let alone one 10 years older.

They don't make 'em like that no more. I still own my 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500 5.3 V8 LT Z71 Extended Cab 4x4. It's got 216k miles on it. I just had a 2-3 band go on the transmission but it was kind of my fault for lack of maintenance. The engine has been solid. 90's to early 2000's up 2007 are the good years. When they started adding fuel management to the V8s and they started all these 8 to 10 speed transmissions and the build quality went down is when Chevy Trucks & SUVs went downhill.
