I bought a brand new ‘97 2 door Tahoe LT Z71, red with gray just like this one. I drove it off the showroom floor and it’s parked in my driveway. Other than maintenance and some minor repairs it still runs and drives like new. I will never part with it and I still get thumbs ups all the time. Currently has 110k miles.

Back in the day, I worked at one of the multiple locations where these were made, Flint Truck Assembly. These were truly amazing vehicles, built to last virtually forever. They were great for towing, 4X4, road trips and just hauling the family around. They could be optioned out, in a luxury type package, often nicknamed the "Texas Cadillac". Many of these were built as commercial or government vehicles. In answer to your question: No, you did not overpay for this particular vehicle. Great find!!!

I have a 99, which I bought in 2000 with the exact same maxed out package than shown here. Mine has slightly over 150k and it is a keeper as well. It used to be my weekly driver (once a week commute), until it’s current semi-retirement. I am the only mechanic of the vehicle with a very nicely equipped home garage. Keep adding any special tools that are needed. Still, I went through a lot of repairs already. 98-99 has pass-lock and PWM-TCC, both of which slightly complicates things and both of which already failed on me.

It has 220,000 miles on it but drives awesome. Transmission was just rebuit 20k miles ago and oil pressure is still really good. Doesn't burn oil or leak. I just reuphosltered both front seats and added heated seat to it. It was really taken care of. It's a 4x4 and everything works. My kids and wife love it. Great purchase guys. Cant go wrong with a GMT400. There are several of this generation of trucks with the TBI 350/5.7 with over 1 million miles on them. My dad has a 1990 C1500 pickup with over 660k mi on the original, untouched, non-rebuilt engine. These are definitely what they were advertised as: the longest lasting, most reliable trucks on the road. Cant go wrong with one of these, especially with the 350/5.7. Beautiful, timeless looks these have as well. My mom had a '99 Yukon that was very similar to this, cargo doors ("barn doors") and all.

9k for this beautiful condition Tahoe is definitely worth the price with how low the mileage is. Great find. At the time this generation of Tahoe was around, I was riding in my mom’s 94’ ford EXPLOder and I really hated it. Really wished she had this truck and not the pile of junk Ford built for the time. This generation of GM trucks will definitely outlast the really junky Expedition and Land Cruiser for its time for miles. Way more reliable. Hope to see more videos of this Tahoe in the future. I knew you guys would be back to a GMT400 soon enough. Let's see you get after it (Moab, et al.) with this one in stock form. That G80 has got you covered. With respect to price, nicely done. In Nov '23 I purchased a '95 K1500 Suburban LT (4wd, 5.7l TBI, 3.73s, G80, factory skids) with 220k mi on the clock for $2900. It was nowhere near as clean as yours, used as the forgotten family hauler by just one family its whole life here in northern CA. It just keeps chugging along with no fanfare even though all the PO ever did was oil changes and random water pumps. I've just been having fun with it doing all sorts of long forgotten maintenance like full OEM suspension and steering, cleaning, fixing power windows, locks, etc. You are correct: I've been using Autozone for all my parts. Amazing what's available and for how cheap. Even though every single part is cheap, I've now got a total of $8230 (incl purchase price) according to my spreadsheet (geek alert!). Nice score on your part and I'll just keep increasing my "investment" in mine because at $20/job, this has been just too fun to stop now (cheap as hobbies go). I'll bet your rear window actually goes down all the way. I'm guessing your door lock actuator is also broken (or latch perhaps) on that same door. Mine did what yours was doing. Once I got in the door I saw the actuator was blocking the path of the glass. Fixed that and boom - window goes all the way down (or could be a transition year thing: 95s being the last year they went all the way down?). Let's see more GMT400 content.

I spent a good chunk of my childhood and teenage years in my dad's '99. And got to drive it the last few years of its life until the frame rusted through at 288k. The drivetrain was still in good operating condition. The only things I remember being issues was the fuel pump being notorious for burning out, especially when run low on gas, and the rear drums regularly backing out of adjustment. Causing the front disks to have a shortend lifespan. Our solution between tire rotations was to reverse it at walking speed and slamming the brakes to get the adjusters to set.

Lift-gates are my nemesis, as I either hit my head, or I'm hunched over while accessing the cargo area, and I find them very annoying, unlike the "barn doors" option on the "square-body," GMT-400, and GMT-800 versions of the Suburban, Tahoe, Yukon/Yukon XL, and also on some Escalade's.

I've owned two GMT-400 trucks, a '94 GMC Sierra extended cab with the L05 engine and a '96 Chev C1500 single cab long bed with the Vortec engine (L31 I think). I still have the latter, and can recommend the cloth trim which has lasted well. They are lovely to drive and very comfortable.

I worked at a Chevy dealer when these were new. We sold every one we could get at full pop. Best looking Tahoe….ever! I can see while they still bring all the money.

Definitely did NOT over pay! Love those trucks. Had a Yukon with the same interior & options and loved it.. but couldn't afford the gas up here in Canuckistan. Really the only thing that's preventing me from getting another one 😥

Good price but I wouldn't sell my '99 Yukon SLT for anything. Only 155k miles and still fabulous although the new transfer case did not come cheap. Best trucks ever!!

I still wish I had gotten one of these. I stupidly bought a GMT800. Loved that truck but it was too challenging to maintain after 17 years and 180,000 miles. Great video!

Great video. I’ve been looking at these as well as a 3rd car ppl mover for soccer weekends. Get it wrapped, put 2-3k in suspension upgrades / tires. You surely got it from the dealer auction. Nobody can purchase it at this price point. Definitely did not overpay.

Really a timeless and classic design. I had an opportunity to drive a GMT400 era Suburban and it felt quite nimble compared to the old style square body. Back in 1999, my wife's friend opted for the Tahoe We bought a second gen Honda Odyssey....and I have to say the Tahoe was a compelling alternative to having a minivan.

We have a 99 Suburban, 128k miles and still going strong. I fully expect it to get to 250k or more. Simple to work on, cheap and plentiful parts, it’s been the perfect vehicle. I cant think of any modern vehicle that could last 25, 30 years.

Recently bought a near pristine 1999 suburban 1500 4x4, fully loaded interior and red exterior. Love it, has over 203k miles now but drive perfect. Paid $3500, it’s this exact vehicle with the same options but longer lol. Also has the g80 and the automatic 4wd transfer case, both work well too

My 2000 Chevy Suburban 4x4 with the venerable 5.3L V8 still runs like new; original engine, trans and 4x4 system. Nearly 300,000 miles on the clock with the most comfortable heated leather seats. On the road I can sleep two adults comfortably with canoe on the roof and fat bikes out back.

I had a '96 GMC 1500 SLE 4WD pickup that I bought used with 30K miles and put almost another 100K on it. I traded it for a 3/4 ton truck in 2012, but I wish now that I would have kept it. It was very comfortable. The truck was not trouble-free, though. Its most serious failure was a broken front axle that cratered while I was driving down the highway in 2WD. It was determined that the axle was defective from the factory, and the axle metal was crystalized. Mine was unusual in that it had the 6.5L diesel V8, a pretty rare option on the 1/2 ton pickup. Unlike the 5.7L gas V8, the 6.5 diesel would get 17.5 to 19.5 mpg, pretty much no matter how one would drive it. For most of the years that I drove that truck, diesel fuel was also less expensive than gasoline.

If you want the rear door windows to open all the way, get a Suburban/Yukon XL/Escalade EXT. You'll also get 14" of additional wheelbase, and a bit more cargo space.

Same interiors as the Silverado had, prefer the cloth though. Many late nights hauling horses, those visor lights kept me awake. Tip, if you get the nods some light in your eyes does wonders. Darkness promotes sleep. My 96 2500 had 300k when i retired it, original motor/tran. Still runs great for my nephew. ABS stunk on these, otherwise great vehicles.

In that good of condition, I don't think you overpaid for that Tahoe. I have a 99 GMC Suburban that was not well loved before I got it. It had 165k miles on it, had so many hail dents, it looked like a golf ball and blew the engine at 174k miles. $6500 later for a Jasper engine swap, and 12 years later, it's still running although it is need of a transmission swap. An SLT model, I wish it had the Chevy seats and you are right on the door handles (I've replaced 5 of them). It has many issues, but I drive it daily and still love it. I've even pulled a semi out of a sand trap with it.
