That trail from Ben Macdui down to Hutchison bothy is awesome and quite tech, though I wouldn't recommend doing it on a kids hardtail like I did last summer on a five day solo bike and camp. I have since got myself a full sus and am so looking forward to getting back into the cairngorms next summer for some more riding.

Midges are less of an issue if you keep moving. They don't fly that fast. When I cycled from Alice Springs to Ayers Rock/Uluru a couple of years back, people asked me about the flies, and I just said - I can cycle faster than they fly - No problem!

As a hill-walker I enjoyed this video a lot more than I expected - thanks very much. By the way, at 9.28 that wasn't a river - it was a burn! Big difference! Nice to see you drinking fresh burn water at 11.50 too, I've been drinking burn water all my life - it's so good providing you're careful. Finally, when you do your little safety bit at the end, could you remind cyclists to be considerate to hill-walkers, as I've been frightened a number of times by bike riders whizzing past at a great rate of knots, expecting me to jump out the way.

Did this route today from Braemar to aviemore there is about 6 miles which is not ridable,I would not say it hiker biking but a lot off pushing over massive boulders which you can’t get any flow, There is only one good descent at the end which is really not worth all the climbing, after the descent it’s a steady 10 miles to aviemore, not a route for an average rider
