So nice to meet your dad! what a lovely man, awesome that you took him out, definitely do it again. I recognised the PNG flag on his beanie right away - I visited Papua on my own 5 decades ago, but it had a huge impact on me. It says a lot about your dad that he is into that stunning country and its amazing people. I have never seen such huge and old casuarina trees before; you're right, it's like a fairyland, or a Tolkien story. Thanks once more for taking us with you.

My dad is I’ll with cancer and has lost a lot of his mobility. He will be 70 in a few years. I would give anything to be able to do the things we used to do. Time passes and we adapt and I’m grateful he’s still here. Lots of people here have lost their dad. Just a word of advice that can apply to everyone. Make the best of each day while you have the chance. Time will take that chance away from us all. Some earlier than others. Spend time with those you love and cherish those memories. In the end, it’s all you will have left. A memory to look back and smile about. Ps…. That was one of the most beautiful spots I have ever seen

A very special experience...well done. I could easily be your Dad's twin due to having the same age, hair and homeless look. I can relate to him being confused...one of the bastards about getting older... simple things can confront you. However, one thing....when it happens don't say ...oh, its easy (otherwise, you won't be having an issue)...instead say... I can understand the problem....let's see what we can do. You can see it bothered him, tho of course you just have to laugh it off. My Dad, now 97, also introduced me to camping. A few years ago I took him camping along the Darling. He loved it, especially the stars at night. He hadn't been camping for about 50 yrs.

If you are currently, or have recently been homeless I get it, otherwise just don't try to educate the bloke, it's condescending.
