Funny story at the 200 year anniversary - I went there...and all the tourists took the museum and the giant pyramid built - I went to Hougoumont Farm with a wicker picnic basket and a blanket. Set outside the walls a small track that runs parallel in summer, we surveyed it drank it in with my wife I told her the story of it and we watched the tractors in the distance gathering the crops ...we never saw another soul for 2hours...Yet the museum was packed almost none of the visitors saw any of the true battlefield. Just the visitor centre. As we packed to leave a group of tidy and well dressed middle aged men came down and stopped to chat. They were Senior British Officers from Mons doing a visit with a military historian and they stopped to chat....moral to the story....walk the fields...Not the museum.

I always love when you upload videos on this game. I wish you would do more of them. One video from you brings more attention to the game than my whole channel ever could. Good stuff man.

Great that you are playing this. Minor quibble - it is not "the" Hougoumont. Hougoumont is the name of the farm complex (sometimes called Chateau).

Good stuff. I really enjoy the Scourge of War games. So far I have Gettysburg, Antietam, and Waterloo. I find that I enjoy the brigade to divisional scenarios the most as I can more or less keep track and control everyone. The whole battle scenarios are amazing in their "hugeness". But those scenarios are much harder to keep track of. I hope you post more Scourge of War stuff in the future THG!

One of the tricks when it comes to this game for the full battle scenarios is to always keep things as small as possible and in as few different locations as possible. In other words, only attack what you absolutely have to attack, and only with as many forces as you absolutely need to use to get the job done. Watching 1 or 2 hotspots on the battlefield is alot easier than trying to monitor 5 or 6 hotspots all raging simultaneously. Also, most of the full battle scenarios are multiple hours long, and generally speaking, the bigger the battle, the longer the duration. Play the long game. Use that time to your advantage. Don't try and take everything at once. Take the most important objective or ground first, secure that position, and then launch the next attack, rinse and repeat. By breaking a battle up into a series of chapters like this, you can drastically minimize what you're watching at any given moment, while not being overwhelmed by how much is going on, which lets you carry out what it is you are trying to do more efficiently.

Your in line in the woods DOH ! You should be in skirmish order to shoot at their skirmishers and their advancing line troops. Remember! You are in the woods so have natural cover. They are in the open! So its they who will be hit harder, you are losing more casualties in the woods as you are fighting in line. Which is a very good target for them. When their main body of troops get into the edge of the woods then its time to retire behind the walls of the Chateau.

@@thehistoricalgamer No one cares how good or bad you are. You're entertaining, historically insightful, and you bring views to the game. I'm probably the best there is at this game, but I'd happily trade it to be entertaining and insightful like you. In fact , it was your 150th anniversary series on SOW Chancellorsville from years back that inspired me to start my own channel on SOW Waterloo.

I did cover it briefly. I had a couple videos on it, not much, but that's because I really am not very good, as you'll see in my next video for this game. I really struggle with cavalry, its more complex and challenging than the civil war games imho.

One of the things that puzzles me about the Hundred Days is that Napoleon was dead-set on fighting - he must have understood how badly he was outnumbered, and the Concert powers were never going to let him retain the leadership of France. The film Waterloo suggests that he made peace overtures to Britain upon his return to Paris, but I don't know if that's true. I suppose if he avoided battle, his enemies could unite into a much larger army, and then he'd be totally sunk. I suppose he didn't have any options, apart from 'don't return to politics', even if he was intent on leaving Elba.
@thehistoricalgamer4 жыл бұрын
He did try to push for peace, I'm not sure if he made the overtures to the British or just on the continent but he did try... the other monarchs refused to listen though, to their own defense they likely didn't believe he was genuine and was just trying to buy time to build up his armies.

Gee the size of the regiments are a bit underwhelming. I’m guessing this is pretty old game though. Think I’ll stick to Napoleon Total War.
@DarkRob3164 жыл бұрын
They're battalions, not regiments. Also the sprite ratio is fully adjustable from 10:1 all the way down to 1:1. He was playing on the default sprite ratio, which is 6:1. Also, Total War is an arcade game compared to Scourge of War.
