SCP-1121 is a previously unknown amoeboid protozoa with very specific mutagenic qualities triggered only by Staphylococcus epidermidis, a normally benign bacterium present on human skin. If introduced to other organisms, SCP 1121 remains dormant.
Once introduced to S. epidermidis SCP1121 mutates all instances of the bacteria into SCP-1121-1 (classified as Staphylococcus epidermidis exitiabilis) before dying. At this point, a subject is considered infected and will start to show stage I symptoms.
SCP-1121-1 has proven resistant to all known antibiotics and at this time no known cure for infections with Staphylococcus epidermidis exitiabilis exists.
A subject infected with SCP-1121-1 goes through a set number of stages:
I: Two to five hours after initial infection small white lesions appear on the skin. This does not differ from infection by S. epidermidis, making wrong diagnoses a distinct possibility.
II: Approximately twenty-four hours after the on-set of stage I, the lesions will gradually begin to disappear, the infection having spread to the lower layers of the patient's skin. SCP-1121-1 then consumes the subcutaneous tissue, transforming it into a highly viscous substance. This process is extremely painful. The patient's skin is at this point connected to underlying tissues only by the substance excreted by SCP-1121-1.
III: Patients begin removing their skin from their body. Most patients use their own hands for skinning, though in some cases patients resorted to using various tools including knives, windshield scrapers and more!

Yeah, the crew member is the one that accidently triggered that trap, but Borus did not shoot him for triggering the trap. He did it to send a message. He could have fired in the air or at the archeologist's feet. He's an archeologist, not a soldier or hitman. The sound of a gun going off alone would have been enough to scare him most likely.

sometimes archeology can lead to treasure...treasure hunters would kill any 1 if treasures ivolved thus...archeologists can run into gunmen and get shot at or even killed in the line of discovery..thus he more likely wouldve been possibly unphazed by a gun...thus boris killing someone was to show "we are here to complete a job...not worry about the dead"

For an archaeologist, this is like a chef watching a movie on a chef who invented a famous dish as a child, but then fell from grace, and is now going on typical chef adventures in which he pilots his own aircraft to Alaska to cunningly hunt some ancient beast, all while seducing a psychic for a secret recipe and using his professional skills to decrypt an ancient language with nothing but a glance amd dodging bullets during shootout. 😊 An amazing story, but the chef feels somewhat baffled and does not understand why his job needed to be upgraded to "superhero" 😅
