When I lived in a small town in nowhere Kansas, there was a story about a guy who may or may not have done unforgivable things with girls as young as nine. They say they found his body in a field, and the cause of death was determined to be suicide, even though he’d been bludgeoned several times and dragged around the field. There were people in that town that were there and may or may not have taken part in the "justice." These were good, nice people. People I knew. And they just participated in the murder of a man and then went on with their lives. That thought itself terrifies me.

Great work! I wrote this a few years ago, and it's cool to see it animated. You did a good job getting the effects of the anomaly across, which got me pretty tongue twisted when writing it to begin with. As others mentioned, the anomaly is only supposed to occur in towns with *less* than 2000 population, although in hindsight that probably should have been even lower. The only other quirk I noticed is that in the Escot interview and video, the mob burns the barn to the ground, rather than dragging the accused out. Other than that, as some people wondered, those who resist the mob suffer the same "depersonalization effect" as the 3852-2 instance, and any prior relationships are completely forgotten after the conclusion of the event. Great work again!

2 Lessons I just learned on this new video by Dr. Bob. 1. Crime does pay. If the law can't serve justice to those who weren't guilty as they all found a way to get themselves out clean, then this anomaly can. So don't be a criminal and don't do crimes that will destroy other people's lives.. because it will always come back at you with extreme punishments. And 2. If there's one thing that GTA San Andreas taught me during my childhood.. is to always carry a jetpack as the easiest way to escape a mad mob with the tendency of taking you out by death.

Is there a specific reason as to why admenistering amnestics to the town and relocating the victim woudn't work? (Instead of killing them)
@hecklerundkochhk4162 жыл бұрын
The greatest town square
@ArDeeMee2 жыл бұрын
Because the mob will relentlessly swarm the MTFs, overwhelming them through sheer force of numbers. They simply don‘t have the time… remember, 10-25 % of the population are immune to the effect, and try to defend the victim, which turns them into victims as well. If the town’s population were exactly 2000 (the max threshold), then that means 200-500 (+1) possible casualties. Violent casualties. So the current strategy is a quick and hopefully painless mercy kill, to prevent as many collateral killings as possible.
@ZsoronZ2 жыл бұрын
@@ArDeeMee You are aware that the Foundation can simply go in with an helicopter to scoop the victim up right? And they have planes and helicopters which can spray amnestics on a large scale. That is without taking into account other things they can spray, such as sedatives. I think the real problem is that they haven't tried to see if amnnestics work in the first place, because if they tried and they didn't, they would have to kill hundreds of people instead of one (for the town may now run after foundation personnels). But then again, woudn't that problem be solved with a careful use of drones?
@ArDeeMee2 жыл бұрын
@@ZsoronZ I went ahead and read the SCP file. The main problem is that the foundation can only ever go in after the fact. In the case of the wheelchair guy, the mob cornered him and his defenders (who had lost their faces as well!) and set the barn aflame. No mention whether the MTF brought marshmallows… I agree with the sedatives, but the barn incident shows that the event had already ended when the MTF arrived. Mob justice is swift and cruel. It rarely leaves you time to think and react. This sort of theorizing applies fridge logic to any SCP entity. Why does anyone bother with 682 at all? Leave it in its acid bath. 096 could have a bag sown onto its face so that containment breaches are no longer end-of-the-world scenarios. Stop applying „in case of containment breach evacuate and destroy/incinerate/flood Site“ to every single dangerous SCP. There is definitely more than one SCP in there!! Etc… I think 3852 is fine as is. It presents a primal fear in an interesting scenario, and that‘s good enough for me. ^^

This one is absolutely freaky! It was already pretty creepy, but the fact that in the end, the wife was the one to kick the stool away ultimately killing her husband is so tragic. A lot of SCPs trigger my paranoid delusions and such, but this one is just too freaky and sort of "real" in a way since mob mentality and witch hunts are so very real. This is just creepy, honestly.

Kinda wish there was ONE person who was a victim of this SCP, and managed to live. Just to see what would happen if they failed to KILL them.

Dr. Bob with the wordplay on that switch up from Termination to Debriefing was pretty slick.

Now here is a question I have about this scp, what if the targeted person or even the people protecting the target get taken far from the town, do they give up or just keep hunting them down

This is what i was thinking. What happens if the foundation just abducts the victim and sequesters them away in one of their secret bases. Is the mob going to follow them? How will they find them? What will they do? Will it just reset?

I really love SCP and it's sad to have to admit that many of these stories, especially the somewhat newer ones, have very thinly veiled political messages within them. This SCP is a pretty good example of this, though it is not a bad story. It's nice when there is a story that I happen to agree with politically (which is pretty rare), but when I disagree with it's a little annoying. Sure almost everything is political but wouldn't it be just overall more pleasant if the politics were a little more hidden in general, I mean this one in particular gives you a very specific geographical area which is associated with specific politics. Am I the only one who notices this? The only one who thinks this? Because most of the SCP staff and authors seem to embrace it and even get more aggressive with it over time.

This wasn't really political so much as philosophical, in that it is more about the value of justice. Even if a vigilante mob does not perform any injustices, there is still usually a better way to go about doing justice that leaves less up to chance. Vigilante mobs can hurt innocent people, as this SCP does with those who speak out to demand a fair trial. Plus, this SCP always applies the death sentence, even for crimes for which that may be considered overkill (for example, the drunk driving manslaughter). I think that SCPs which speak to our inner values rather than mere political issues are better as they are more universal. As an illustration of this idea, The Lord of the Rings is not political, but it is quite philosophical in its themes and motifs. As a result, it is praised by many who might find Tolkien's "politics", if one could call them that, contemptible, because it is the root values that are shown, not the end result of reasoning (politics) which differ very much from person to person.

Idk what you're talking about. You think its political because it only affects....half of the u.s. ? If you find that political, YOU'RE putting it there with your interpretation. That's okay, but don't blame the author. -a guy who lives on the East Coast.
