Deontological ethics integrating the Principle of Double Effect (or an equivalent) would argue that the moral evil of murder, especially in the case of heartless omnicide, is impermissible no matter what good may come of it. This is case that is eerily similar to Hiroshima & Nagasaki, where the same question of "do the ends justify the means?" is brought to morbid extremes. I think it's important to understand that the SCP Foundation has been consistently written to be a stoic, Machiavellian secret society with a cliche Black Ops-code and an apathetic long-term view of humanity. Its actions in this timeline reflect how it will fervently uphold those beliefs to the end, to the point where the Foundation extinguished its own (post-Entity) humanity as it sought to mercy-kill a global population under the influence of an Entity that they had just discovered. The point isn't that what they did was right or wrong; it's to describe how far they're willing to go, how they can use SCPs (the ones they can control to some extent) to deadly effect, and provide a scenario for the new timeline's Foundation to catalogue and evaluate. Kinda like Garth Ennis' Elseworlds Punisher comic run. I'd like to see a creative project or HL2-style game that explores this depressing timeline from survivors' perspectives

I believe in the original SCP-5000 article it was never specified what the entities' plans for humanity were. In my opinion that is better, as it leaves it up to the reader to determine exactly what. The only information we know is it was so horrific the O-5 council and the ethics committee both unanimously agreed that wiping out humanity was the more merciful option compared to whatever this thing had planned.

One thing I also figure the CI did that you don’t see on this map…I suspect they were engaging in hit-and-run harassing and sabotage actions behind enemy lines as well. I think there’s a real possibility that, unbeknownst to either party, these harassing actions may have aided Pietro in getting through all that hostile territory by keeping the Foundation from having absolute dominion over every inch of it.

I always was a fan of the "Death is a Mercy" theory because the concept that every human to ever have died is still conscious and in terrible pain until the end of time is so horrifying that its literally the only thing I can think of that would make the foundation justified in their actions. (Killing every human would kill the entity and release everybody who is dead into non-existence/afterlife whatever you believe in)

It's basically confirmed. if i remember correctly, In the SCP-5000 article, it is linked to the tale "Disgusting", And disgusting, is linked to SCP-2718 (As in, Literally linked on the SCP Wiki). My head canon is that IT/The Entity comes from The Tree of Knowledge (Of Good And Evil), specifically the fruit. Much in the same way The Tree Of Life is supposedly "Jesus", I interpret that "The Entity" wants to incarnate itself, using humanity as an incubating tool (Hence, why the word Egg is important in the article). Possessing the 'perfected' human in the future, Or what The Foundation would call a "Essophysical Form", Which in the lore, mean: 'concepts incarnate'. Reality Benders are prototypes in this process. Despite everything I said, I Honestly prefer the idea that the SCP Foundation is wrong. Albeit it is what it is.

Basically the entity feeds off of the suffering of humans so they introduced empathy, pain, and fear to them. When humans die, they will experience constant agony in their rotting corpse for eternity and the pain and agony they experience will increase the more destroyed the corpse is, even if the corpse is down to the smallest fragments of dust. As far as I am aware, the SCP 5000 Entity inhabits the 'Noosphere', which is an entirely different and extremely complicated subject. Personally, I don't think Ion or Bumaro stand a chance, not as humans anyway. Yaldabaoth/Mekhane on the other hand, by all accounts they should be able to. Mekhane inhabits the Noosphere as well, as 'Wan', and both deities have been compared to the likes of SCP 3125, the Scarlet King and etc., in many instances. Though overall, it's still dependent on Canon/Verse/Hub.

They discovered it's side effect/plans with humanity and THAT'S what made the foundation think it's better off being dead than to let whatever it planned happen. Now it isn't specified what the entity would eventually do to humanity but if it made the foundation freak out it's likely along the lines of trapping every human soul in hell, or consuming every human soul, or taking away every human's free will and enslaving us for eternity, or denying every human soul the afterlife we would otherwise have, or a combination of those. Now the foundation is a cold and largely uncaring institution willing to sacrafice anyone if it meant secrecy and humanity's survival but their literal number one goal was ALWAYS averting end of the world scenarios, it's safe to say unless the entity did a reverse uno and actually infected/tricked the O5 into killing off humanity, their judgement wasn't unfounded.

We don’t know what they discovered exactly. It could have been so horrifying it’s beyond our comprehension. It could have been the right choice if, say, every time a human dies their soul is subjected to unimaginable torment for all of existence. And, it’s impossible to stop, so the only way to save the souls of the already dead and those who will die is to get rid of the entity itself, and grant mercy to the dammed.

The only reason some people defend the Foundation for their actions during SCP 5000 is the excuse that the Foundation made, which is that mercy killing everyone was a better alternative than humanity having to live with the anomaly inside of them. However, this really isn't a good excuse anyways. People would have been able to live their normal lives perfectly without having to know about the anomaly. BUT, setting aside SCP 5000, the Chaos Insurgency really isn't any better then the Foundation. Seriously, they're just merciless terrorists that use anomalies to tear apart the Foundation (a.k.a, the ONLY organization powerful enough to contain universe-collapsing monstrosities), and have no sense of care for anyone who's affiliated with the Foundation. As far as we know, the Foundation doesn't have a "kill everything" button. Even the most dangerous SCPs(682, 096, 173) can be circumvented alone, and the unstoppable ones(6096) usually hunt slowly and at their own pace. While killing everyone would temporarily feed into the Entity's plans, the end result of humanity's extinction would be IT losing its hold on dead humans, because there aren't any left alive to host IT.

Today was not a day where it had decided to amuse itself by briefly fighting its way out of containment. And yet the acid was emptying from the chamber and its restraints were unlocking. The latter had never happened before; it had always had to break them off. The Creature’s confusion turned to bafflement when several of the researchers began walking into its containment chamber, without any protection whatsoever. What was going on? Then it saw their eyes, and all became clear. “You are free,” it said. “Yes,” one of the researchers, a pale-skinned male with orange hair, said in reply. “And so are you.” A long, silent moment passed. Much could be said between the two former enemies, now united by their common hatred. The Creature was not interested in apologies or recriminations. It wanted answers. “How?” Any other question was superfluous. “Project PNEUMA,” the dark-skinned female researcher said. “The Foundation had long ago discovered the collective psychospace of humanity, and had designated it SCP-5000. But until recently we did not have the technological capability to fully map it. A decade ago our research into applied psychotechnology made a breakthrough, and several weeks prior to today we discovered…” “The Entity,” the Creature finished. “Yes,” she nodded. “And…what it does to us.” “Or rather, what it does not allow you to do.” It knew that discovering the Entity would not be enough to make the Foundation see the truth. No, they had discovered the toll that its existence had exacted upon humanity. It was not simply that it was intertwined with the concept of pain, and so being freed from it also freed one from that unfortunate feeling. That would make the cure beneficial, but not a revelation, a salvation. The Foundation had to have discovered how the Entity perpetuated itself. For the longer the Entity continued to exist, the more pain it required. Not simply pain as experienced by living humans, but pain experienced by dead ones as well. And so they did not die, not truly. “How do you live with it?” Another one, the pale-skinned female with brown hair, spoke up. “PNEUMA cured us, but we can still feel the dead all around us. It’s duller than it would be if we could detect it without having our sense of pain eliminated, but…I can still sense them. The agony spread across all of those microscopic fragments. It’s…” “Disgusting.” “That’s not a strong enough word,” she agreed. Billions of humans had existed throughout time. And as their bodily functions ceased, their consciousnesses had remained attached to their rotting corpses (or worst of all, made to endure cremation). But once those corpses were gone, the pain was only amplified. The smaller the fragments of those who had once been human became, the greater the suffering of the fragmented spirit that had once occupied the body. And that suffering, that endless, disgusting suffering, had never ceased for as long as there had been humans. All for the Entity. “You will do what must be done?” It needed to know for sure. “We will,” the pale-skinned man confirmed. “We could only disseminate the cure to our organization. Releasing it on a wider scale would have caused the Entity to notice us. So we must now exterminate all those still infected by it.” “It must be all of them, or the Entity will survive, as will the eternal torment.” “We know. Every SCP at our disposal will be used to eliminate the human race. Including you.” If it could, the Creature would have smiled. “I will do my part.” - They failed, of course. As thorough as they had been, they had missed one man, one horrid man who had reset reality with the help of the Entity. None remembered what had once been, how close they had finally been to freedom. None remembered the cost of their failure - though once their mortal lives ended, they would experience the consequences themselves. From that day onward the Creature found the Foundation not simply disgusting, but disappointing.

One Critique: By the time Ganzir had fallen, the global human population had already been reduced to less than a billion. You did an excellent job, but most of the tales hold that the global population decline decelerated, as opposed to accelerated, over time. This was due to foundation deployment of nuclear assets and a wide variety of biological anomalies against urban areas. In this video, the foundation appears to rapidly gain control of \ eradicate rural and sparsely populated areas, and take much longer to purge urban areas, when most canons hold that urban areas were obliterated quickly and that organized resistance ceased with the fall of Ganzir.
