Is this what we have to look forward to?
Here I show a modern 55in LCD TV from 2012 and whilst it's only one model it really shocked me how little was inside.
Usually we get a nice little T-Con board but that is incorporated into the main board, so too are a few other boards we're used to in LCD's.
The power was is light weight and hardly worth 10c in scrap.
Unfortunately the future means much less value then ever meaning less LCD's will actually get scrapped and recycled

At this time (THIS VIDEO WAS MADE) of your curbside scrapping you love to pick up fans and get cords. I'm that way with Flatscreens. I'm getting to know which ones have the best/most boards. Just by driving by it's the general rule the thicker the better, also depending on name brand. I've picked up a lot that just has 1 board and then the finger strips, no separate power board. But there is something about it that's therapeutic for me, and we have curbside recycling that takes everything, so they all get recycled. Of course I'd trade 15 flatscreens for one computer! :)

I will eventually start picking up more, I just balance it out, if I have a lot of work I get picky, when little stuff to scrap out I take anything, there's no set rule and if your on top of your backlog of stuff then take anything you find, it all adds up :)

eWaste Ben I totally agree! I have always loved flatscreens! And have taken your advice regarding the mercury and just let the pro's take care of it the proper way! Hope India is FUN!!! Look forward to hearing a few words about your well deserved vacation, when you get back!!

it's like you said Ben. it was not a smart TV so yes we will have to deal with a bunch of junk but I think it will get better. everything will have smart technology. take care friend and thanks for the video

I totally agree with you Ben, there's very little to no value in these newer televisions. I used to pick up a fair number of them some time back, stopped doing that because there was just shit all value to them. I only really stick to CRTs (while their around still) and computers, garuanteed money

Led back-light strips are the only value people make lights out of them, older tv had a little more value . Thanks for sharing

They're all like this now, some even have the PSU and logic board integrated like the set I've literally just done! I sell the tested boards, make much more money than scrapping

It turns out those tvs are not being recycled like we imagine. Yeah I bought used led strips for my tv on ebay for like 80 dollars. They just need to be powered and tested .. I'm finding alot of led strips with gold trace and they are all aluminum and can be sold as so. I'm finding some different green power boards and trying to figure out if they have any better value from the brown ones. I need to take another look but they are green on both sides and have alot of copper aluminum and ic chips. I think they are from the led tvs with the small mother board but I need to start paying more attention because I was sorting by board color and when I look I find gold on brown boards and copper on green boards.

One thing I can’t understand about scrappers from the resource first standpoint is the $$ that went into organizing those resources. Those power boards are little inverters, the circuit board if it works could be sold to repair shops or if it doesn’t work could be bulk refurbished, the LCD itself if it works can be frankensteined into another tv. If the organizing of these resources into parts wasn’t worth money, they wouldn’t have done it. Seems like scrappers of the future will consider the working organization of resources in addition to the raw resource value - nerds ftw.

LCD panels themselves don't contain mercury. The fluorescent backlights in some of them are where the mercury is. Lots of newer TVs and monitors us LED backlights and so no mercury.

Have you since had the opportunity or bothered to scrap a high end smart tv? I'm certain that at the minimum there would be higher quality boards and maybe more boards, I know lg is considered a decent brand but some of their products are low end within the quality range... I know there is a huge difference between my kogan smart tv (made by lg) and my mates sony. they will also contain ram and at least a minimum of onboard memory (mine has 1 or 2 gigabytes of storage can't remember i dodn't buy it for smart tv use)

Austin Gabriel 2000 the quality isn't that good as TV's used to be. you pay more and you get less, don't fix it just throw it away. that's today's standard, a throwaway society

There is no mercury in that TV or any of the LED TVs. Mercury is only in the CFC TV is the one with the long glass tubes inside the screen you have LEDs in that TV and the LED strips or worth money on eBay. Full set go from $60 to about $160 so you want to pull the screen apart recycle all the metal and pull out the LEDs for resale. You can easily look up how to test LED strips and just sell the functional strips and still make okay money.

Lets say that LED screen broke. but the Circuit boards work You could part that out and sell as parts in total around $500. Ribbon cables $20-25 each. You are sadly mistaken saying that power board has NO value what if someone needed one the manufacturer has it listed for $170.. but you list and test it for $140...
