I’m enjoying your music and watching you create. My grandmother made charity quilts before it was a thing. I know she used newspaper a little but the ink could migrate to the fabric. I remember the old mail order catalog or a phone book working. She was always careful to stop and tear all the paper off and then press her blocks. I was able to watch her work as a little girl. My memory goes back to the early sixties. Another thing she used was old cotton sheets or pillowcases. They became her foundation blocks for the very scrappy crazy blocks and the fabric was not removed. Her tools were a pencil, scissors, cardboard from cereal boxes for her templates and a wonderful sense of color and a good mind for geometry. She could go out shopping and see a pattern and go home and draft it out. What an amazing memory your video triggered for me❤️

I use phone book paper. I have hoarded a bunch of those little phone books to use in string blocks. The paper comes off easy and the paper was free😊 Your quilt is very pretty ❤

I like the color coordinated baskets of scraps. Mine are all mixed up. I never knew what the clover tool was. I inherited one from my step-father's mom. It has to be one of the first plastic ones that was made because I'm 72!

Pieced a quilt like this but used a variety of width for the strips and it is one of my favorite patterns to put together. I agree you need smaller stitches to tear the paper off, otherwise I needed tweezers to get the smaller pieces of the paper. Thanks so much for the video.

Good use of scraps. It would be easier to sew on the pencil line on the paper for the triangles.

or...if you're in your local grocery store, they might have local news/coupon pages for free. I know ours does. Near the 'service' desk.

Your quilt is beautiful. I love the colors you used. Did you take a big bite out of your scraps? My mother told me that they used to use old newspapers to make paper foundations to sew on. Old catalogs were used for toilet paper in the outhouse. Newspapers were also used to paper the walls inside the house and in the outhouse (to help hold back the wind and give privacy). I just Subscribed to your channel. You have a nice voice. Thank you for this video and for the free pattern.

Have made “stairs” but a little different. Don’t use paper behind the stairs and use left over triangles for the top and bottom. Also live in MI. Have a great weekend.
