It is amazing how "reject" papers can suddenly look so attractive and interesting when grouped with different embellishments and papers! You created three lovely collections!

Thank you, Thank you. Wonderful video really needed this today. Love how you took the time to explain how you "clean up" your craft room and make "new" kits. I will save this to watch again. You are fortunate to have so many tools to make your embellishments. Guess I will send out a help message to friends to see if they have dies I could use to make some embellishments. Thank you so much for this!!!

I love watching you make your own collections and I really liked your homemade embellishments. I must give this a try. I only started scrapbooking a couple of years ago and am making scrapbooks for myself and both of my adult children. I am just finishing off 1998 whilst also trying to stay current with this year's photos. I think I could do this for Birthday, Christmas and Travel collections as they will definitely feature in every year I scrapbook. I don't have a lot of shop bought ephemera as it's quite expensive in the UK but I have got stamps, dies, watercolours, alcohol markers, papers, card and a few punches. I have a couple of nice alpha die sets and I could die cut myself some patterned alphas. I am now full of ideas for my homemade collection and ephemera sets! Thanks for your videos.

This is great! I agree about page kits vs. Collections. Page kits take a lot of time to put together embellishments for just one page. In collections, embellishments can be used for several pages. I can make a few pages and return to the collection later if I tire of it. I do have page kits also, but mostly collections because of how limiting page kits are. Watching you combine to make new ones was great. I will have to try that. Faster than returning unused items to stash.
@ScrapbookingQuebec3 жыл бұрын
That is why I rarely make page kits now...because of having to return everything to my stash after completing one page. That is also why I no longer add alphas to my kits...I just take note of what matches. Thanks for watching!

Dorothy loved watching you make the kits, it has given me the inspiration to start making Christmas kits myself for this year’s holiday pictures . I just went through my summer stuff and was deciding what to keep and what to donate, my daughter in law has 3 daycares and I give my left over stuff I’m not using to her for the daycare.I love your thought process for how you determine what goes with each kit. Thanks my friend for sharing your ideas and tips for making kits. Looking forward to your next video. Enjoy the holiday weekend. 💕

I love doing this process as well. I do it like you in starting with a paper that I would revolve the rest of the kit around. Fun stuff to do with “rejects”’ 😁

Thank you! (I feel like I used a harsh word...haha!...but when I was doing my voice over, it was the only word that came to mind. In another comment, someone used "remnants". It was so much nicer!) Thanks for watching!

Dorothy, just when I thought I could love your channel anymore, you come up with this!!! I learned so much about putting together a kit from leftovers and I especially like how you made some of your own embellishments with all the dies. I have so many punches and dies and really need the push to start using them more. Thank you for another winner!

Thank you Karen! When I create embellishments for my homemade collections, I keep them pretty simple and basic because I don't want to waste time or material on embellishments that are too theme specific. That is why I created mostly layering pieces like the boughs.I always end up using them, and they often give me inspiration to further dig in to my tools to create more, when doing the page.

Love your collections. You have quite a skill at putting kits together. I don't have near the collection of patterned paper that you have, but I plan to try to make a collection or two. I think it works better for me to limit my choices when I sit down to scrap.

Thank you! I am very happy now. All of those past Christmas collections were dumped in one big bag and it looked so unappealing that I didn't even touch it last year. Sometimes a little tidy up goes a long way!

I’ve made some collections up before but never added the embellishments or alphas. Maybe that’s why I’ve had trouble using them. I think I will pull them out and take a new look thanks to you showing this. You always do an amazing job.

This is the part that I struggle with, not always, but often. I was okay with your first selections, but when you pulled the navy holly paper and the gingham I was lost, but the more you pulled the better it worked (for my mind anyway). I need to challenge myself to try this more often rather than sticking with collections. I hope you use some of these for Christmas layout videos later this year. Those embellishments you die cut out of the Tim Holtz Metallic kraft paper are gorgeous! I need to order that paper pad soon. Thank you for taking the time to share your process and explain your choices.
@ScrapbookingQuebec3 жыл бұрын
It's funny Cindy, because I was lost at that point too. I was contemplating the flip side of the gingham which is a cut apart sheet...but when I saw the gingham with the tree paper, I liked it. With those three papers together, however, I quickly had to add the woodgrain...haha! Yes I figure at least one of these kits will be part of my December kit. Thanks for watching!

Dorothy, this was SO helpful!! what a great idea!!! Not just for saving money, but revisiting our supplies so we actually use them!! love how you went ahead and cut out embellishments with your metal dies. Love how you made a note of the alphas you would use. I could do this with stamps, as well 😊 tell me where you got those pouches for your 12x12 papers?
@ScrapbookingQuebec3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The punches are from past Studio Calico 12X12 scrapbooking kits. They no longer sell kits, however I have bought them at the scrapbooknerd.com. They came in packs of 2.

Great ideas Dorothy - very helpful to see how you make your decisions. Question: when you say you go to your "stash", for filler papers, is that paper also stored as a kit (or category) in your bins or is that a general category of paper you keep somewhere else?
@ScrapbookingQuebec3 жыл бұрын
Hi Diane. I dig through my collections for filler printed papers, as well as two pouches of paper that are simply divided by manufacturer. Almost all of my material is stored in collections with the exception of two pouches - about 3 inches of paper. My cardstock and specialty papers are stored separately as well.
