Thank you for rescuing this beautiful piece. Excellent job.

Thanks. I just repaired and refinished an antique rocking chair. The back and the seat had blistered, chipping, and dried out veneer on them. While I used stripper on the rest of the parts (I had disassembled it due to the original damage), I was concerned what impact the stripper would have on the veneer which I took hours repairing. I used a card scraper on the back and the seat and it turned out wonderful. Keep up the great work! Between you, Ross Taylor, and Thomas Johnson I am learning more about refinishing and repair. I posted pictures of my progress on the rocker and now have three more folks wanting me to do work for them. All of these are antiques and I give them my disclaimer of not being an accomplished restorer (yet), but they are all still wanting me to do the work for them. Thank you!

A special place in Hell should be reserved for people who paint over these beautiful pieces. I'm glad that you were able to restore this mid-century jewel back to its original splendor.

I try to remain non-judgmental when I deal with paint jobs like this, but I can't say I disagree with you. Thanks for watching!

Hi Larry I admire your patience and fortitude! That was not a job I would like to tackle. Good info on the need to remove the bulk of the paint first on open pore woods. Hope this painting perfectly nice wood "thing" is a short lived aberration. Can you still get MeCl stripper as a professional? You are 100% accurate how seriously toxic it is. Stuart is looking quite fit these days-he certainly does not like to be far from you :-) . regards vic

Hi Vic. The last time I bought MeCl stripper, I was fine. I haven't tried in about 8 months, but I believe I'm OK with my business license. We'll see. Stuart is a character for sure. Best to all and thanks for watching.

Hey Larry! I love your videos--I've probably watched every single one at least 3 times! I'd love to see a video about how to get started with a furniture restoration business/hobby, and what to look for when finding pieces to restore. Thanks, and hello from Montreal QC!

Mo' betta? You ever spend time in Hawaii? Or is that a phrase that's used on the Mainland, too?
@LostMountainRestoration5 жыл бұрын
No, just a little joke on urban-speak. Hawaii is on my list of places to visit, though. Best regards!

Thanks Larry. Good tips on stripping pigmented finishes. He/She should have let you finish it as well. If the customer didn't have the ability to strip it chances are their finishing job will also need to be stripped.

Thanks, Dave. Yes, this was a dealer piece and margins draw tight very quickly. By finishing the job himself, he'll be able to maintain a profit on the purchase.
