Good job on completing my pack! I used the same method of stopping my bot, except my sensors were on switch mode and all of them were connected to an XOR gate instead of an OR so as to not trigger the sequence twice. I gave 4 engines in almost every challenge to give options on whether or not using all was necessary, in some levels there really was no point. Thanks again for completing my pack and if anyone's interested I also released the remastered version today!

To me I see an engineer as a practical scientist, they use the scientific process to create practical and cost effective solutions to problems, so in this regard i think scrapman is a good fit fit for the engineer moniker, he breaks down the problem into stages theorise's a solution, tests the solution and iterates until he either succeeds or has to scrap the original theory and and rethink the problem until he succeeds - engineering at its core (in my eyes at least)

I fully agree, i see great potential in his future in Scrap Mechanic when it comes to logic and science. i'm sure he will make amazing thing but only if he lets his true potential shine bright like the brightest star in space. i do not play this game myself, but even i learned a thing or two from his videos.

The reason for the double stop on the first challenge is the timer on the XOR gate. (Sensor - XOR - Timer) - Description Step 1: ( 1 - 1 - 0 ) - Sensor detects red block. Vehicle stops. Step 2: ( 1 - 0 - 1 ) - Five seconds later, the timer outputs to XOR. Vehicle moves forward. Step 3: ( 0 - 1 - 1 ) - Sensor no longer detects red block, but the timer is still outputting. Vehicle stops. Step 4: ( 0 - 0 - 0 ) - Timer runs out. Vehicle moves forward. The variation with a darker shade of red a few challenges later demonstrates this when the piston retracts as the vehicle performs the second stop. A memory bit would prevent the second stop, but personally I think your solution was a bit more simple and elegant, despite the double stop. Love the videos, ScrapMan.

It's also possible to prevent the second stop by adding a sort of bypass gate. Sensor -> timer Sensor and timer -> OR OR and timer -> XOR -> stopping logic When the sensor first turns on, it enables the XOR gate which is turned off by the timer after 5 seconds. However, when the sensor turns off, the XOR still has both inputs active until the timer runs out, after which both of them turn off. Ideally there would be another timer/logic gate purely for delay, to prevent the XOR flickering for one tick when the timer turns off.

You can also just add a and gate from the xor and sensor that will also do it

For a basic line follower you don't need four engines/logic gates. Three engines and no logic is plenty. Do the double bearings and connect one engine to a bearing on either side. That's forward. Other two engines are set to reverse and go to the other bearing, one to each side, and they are turned on by a color sensor on their respective side. This cart would have no on/off switch, it just goes once it is off the lift. A sensor turns on the reverse motor, stopping that side, and causing the car to turn to that direction since the other side is still moving forward. As for the "double stop", i used a very similar timer circuit (added a NOR that really should not have been there) and just set it to half the time. That way it still cycles twice, but twice as quick. Lastly, there _is_ a way of completing that last challenge in just one go-around. Would be interesting to watch you give it another try.

You can prevent the double stop by adding an AND gate after the XOR, connecting the XOR output and the Sensor's output to the AND input. The basic logic behind it is: If the signal is either the timer or the sensor AND it's the sensor, then it will stop for 5 seconds when it detects the red but not a second time when the timer is active but the sensor is not.

@@Nevir202 A faster way would be to make a scout that just turns right at the start, although in that case the vehicle would end up falling off which might reset the challenge

@@nathanielsantana403 You can do the looping challenges faster if you add a reverse, the one with multiple laps would need some basic counter though (but the one with multiple ball colors/canons would not) Im guessing thats what 'Agent West' was referring too :)

the car stops right after the red because the timer still runs while the logic gate is already of, resulting in the XOR gate getting triggered. i think you could prevent that by turning the gate of the color sensor into XOR as well as putting an XOR gate in between the sensor's gate and the timer and linking the timer into both, causing the timer to cancel itself out. not sure at all tho, i probably understand logic less than you because i can't even play scrap mechanic

To prevent it you could use an AND gate wich both the sensor and the XOR gate are connected to, so that when the kart exit the red even though the XOR gate activates it doesn't activate the stoping because the sensor isn't active

The extra stop is actually caused by the XOR gate. Because the timer is still active when it stops detecting the red line, the XOR gate turns back on, causing the entire thing to stop again. I don't really know how to fix that issue, as I'm not exactly an engineer either, but I do have a few ideas. Though they don't feel like they'd work because they require more timers than what I feel you are given.

You're did great with these!! :D Pretty sure you cant claim you dont understand logic anymore now hehe. For future challenge packs like this (or future chapters?) the only input i want to give you is to consider reversed logic for line following, because that way you can follow the line a lot more precise & it should stop you having issues with turning/looping. Instead of detecting black with the corners of your vehicle, detect black at the center, if it does NOT detect black on one side turn to the opposite side, else (if both detect black OR both dont detect black) go forward

the reason that line-following pistonned ball holding car stopped twice is because the xor-timer circuit doesnt activate when it sees red, but rather when whether or not the sensor sees red has changed in the last 5 seconds. using an xor gate on a single input and a delayed copy of that input is a perfect change detector.

If you program the stop function to 3 seconds instead of 6 then it will stop twice @ 3s for a total of 6 seconds instead of twice @ 6s for a total of 12 seconds. Also @ 32:24 Another thing you could do if you have 1 more sensor is to add it to the backboard as it's in line with the one sensor saying : "if I see a black line do not allow left turning for x seconds" Perhaps 1 second would work but maybe 2?

The reason why the vehicle would wait 5 seconds twice is because of the xor logic used. When the sensor is on it does that 5 second loop but when it goes off the timer is still on but the sensor is off which cause the xor logic to be turned on while the timer is turning off. You can stop that by adding another and gate and connecting the sensor and the xor gate so that it will only turn on once

it's not that it's detecting the line a second time, it's because the XOR gait is turning on when the sensor is off and the timer is on... which can be fixed by replacing the XOR gait with an AND gait
