Fun fact: the supermarine spitfire's wings being angled slightly up like that actually gives it more correctional stability irl. If its angled down it actually adds instability.

2:40 the plane naturally levels off cause off the wing angle there angled up a little its called positive dihedral angle it works like a pendulum because of the wing angle but if the wing angle is pointed down it wont self correct it will stay on that angle if you roll the plane left or right it wont self correct

B2 spirit is actually EXTREMELY unstable, and has a much smaller operating envelope with multiple voter flight computers, Part of it is the fact that it doesn't have a vertical stabilizer, part of it is that it is a delta wing and is another factor in its instability.

MULTIPLAYER MONDAY IDEA: Try and make the best multipurpose vehicle with only 5 engines allowed and it should be able to go underwater, get good airtime and be able to drive fast on the ground. Make a track with all terrains like water, flight etc. Whoever wins the most in 5 rounds wins. (also i have no clue if this has been done before and it probably has but if not i thought it would be a good idea)
@staceysheets34822 жыл бұрын
I have an idea for a MM challenge there are 3 ways to do my Idea. 1 you all make planes with 1 pilot and 1 gunner and either make your own 1 person plane or use the same one person plane. 2 you all use the same 2 person plane and you make your own 1 person plane. 3 if you have 4 people you could all make 2 person planes and do a battle. The way you win is which ever team lives the longest and the way to win the first 2 is to shoot down the enemy 2 person plane in with the fastest time.

2:39 - I dunno if there's programming to help it along, but this is a real-world aerodynamic feature. The wings are angled up in what's called a dihedral angle, which tends to want to roll back to upright (unless you go too far.) It also makes a plane somewhat less maneuverable IRL. The opposite is an anhedral angle, which is the wings sloped down (think: Harrier). It makes the plane inherently roll-unstable, but also more maneuverable.

12:45 thats just one of many TM glitches. When wheels are angled like in this plane, they give some boost in that direction. You need to repair after every spawn with high complexity vehicles too, wont solve this issue but moving parts can be floppy after respawn and spawn sometimes.

I think the first plane's self-leveling might be not because of programming. You could try making an airplane with the center of mass well above the wings, and have the wings angled like on that airplane (with the wing tips higher than the wing base), just to see how difficult it would be to make it balanced. Congrats for 700k subs! I'm looking forward to more historical builds, and to more Scrap Mechanic Survival Team playthroughs when the next big update happens.

I believe the B2 doesn't use aerodynamic forces for it's lateral stability, but rather clever thrust vectoring controlled by the onboard computers. It is one of the most complex and technologically advanced aircraft ever built, mostly because it does not have a tail.

4:45 Fun fact: Actually in rl this plane have so low horizontal(yaw axis) stability, thus they developed high complex system to maintain straight flight, this system is very tricky, it controls difference of opening between 2 airbrakes to yaw. So the game is not so far from rl in this perspective. You actually can see it's work on photo late in video.
@Grandslam2452 жыл бұрын
B2 body has all the features needed for stability. If it slins in the air, the forward wing has more drag and gets pushed back level. The horizontal stability comes from it being a perfect airfoil.

fun fact the b2 spirit's body doesn't provide any significant stability in the yaw direction. infact this was a major flaw that delayed flying wing aircraft for generations. the b2 uses air break flaps on the tips of its wings and a super advanced fly by wire system to maintain stability. without this it would flap around in circles and be completely uncontrollable.
