Scrapping A Huge Electric Motor For The Copper!!!

I've been cracking them open that size and bigger Canadian Treasure Hunter style with a Sledgehammer/ Splitting maul and a railroad sledge that focuses all the power to a single 1" spot. Cast Iron cracks in half. Then I've been cutting both ends off lately with an old axe and hammer flush. Then punching out the copper inside the stator while using the old case to put the stator on. My last 40hp motor had 60lbs of copper in it.

Its definitely worth doing. Its work but what else am I gonna do sit on the couch....just aswell be doing something

It varies by the motor but i figure that u get 10% copper weight

I was just given 2 motors about 5 times that size. Now trying to figure out how the hell to deal with them! 1400 lbs combined

Whats the biggest motor you've taken apart? I have a 100hp lincoln that i can tear down and was wondering if you've seen any of that size.

Largest ive done is a 75hp. Thats what this one was I believe. Im working on getting a 100hp as we speak I hope i can make it happen
