I'm sure the Hyundai is a candidate for salvage, there is a market for salvage repair. I bought my first salvage car in April, a 2012 Volvo V40 with a clean title, only salvage for a stripped timing belt, for £1000. It cost me £500 to get it back on the road and is now worth circa £5500. Sadly in the process I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis so I sold the car to myself for the £1500 I had put into it and it is now my daily driver. There's money in these old cars!

Had a coupe lll since new (08 plate) loved it! Only got shut of it in 2019, cos the heater matrix decided to dump all the coolant into the passenger foot well... It had 179,000 miles on it, still on the original clutch as well. Such a shame, as the engine was sweet as anything!!!
@simonross82183 жыл бұрын
Couldn't be bothered with the hassle of taking the whole dash out to get to it! Then the cost of a new clutch, new rear repair arch section for the o/s 1/4 panel - not cost effective anymore, time to buy new again... Stayed with Korean cars though - ended up with the Optima estate sports - can't fault that at all!

I've got a Hyundai Coupe III which is older than the one scrapped (mines 2002). Such a shame to see that one being scrapped. The coupe is one of the better cars I've had, and its still going strong for 18yrs old. Parts are expensive for them, so can understand the insurance decision.

I had a Hyundai Accent and it developed a fault with the lambda sensor and exhaust pipe, the kwik fits and Halfords didn't want to know and I was told to go to the main dealership. They wanted £300 for a piece of pipe and sensor + fitting. Picked the pipe up fro motors direct for £25 and my local garage fitted it with the original sensor which was found to be okay for a further £75 saving me £200.

Another great video. Interesting to see that Hyundai being written off so easily by the insurance company. At the end of the day we all have to pay for such silly decisions. I once had a VW Amarok that got trampled all over by a horse on the loose, the owners insurance admitted liability and paid the £7k repair bill but the courtesy car bill (an L200) as I needed it for work was £9k, the hire company charged £250.00 a day whilst mine was being repaired, plus £10.00 a day surcharge as I had to have a towbar !, a £16k pay out for a £7k repair bill, outrageous.

The last shot of the cars nose on stacked in the yard was quite depressing. It clearly show how many ordinary cars have no real design but are just clones from another one. When I first went to that yard in 1960 all the cars then would be easily identifiable front on. The old Rovers, Jaguars and humble Morris Minor all had some sort of design that made them pleasant to look at. I know, times move on !

Seeing the Hyundai was bitter-sweet for me. I had a 12 plate VW Sharan SEL that was written off in 2017 with just 30k miles on the clock, after a minor front-end collision at less than 20mph that triggered all the front airbags and seatbelt pre-tensioners! :-( It was a lovely vehicle, but deamed financially unviable to repair by my insurance company. I checked the registration on the DVLA website 6 months later to see it was taxed and MOT'ed and on the road again! I feel like I was cheated out of a lovely vehicle! Jonathan.
