The stove elements are made of RA330, which is about 30% nickle. Most yards just call them cont.304 but if you look around you can find one that pays a little more... especially if you have good quantity.

Interesting seeing those from 8 years ago and where I live in the BFE middle of the US, copper is currently (Marcj 2023) $3 for clean #1 and around 1.60 for brass, aluminum is ridiculously low I believe it was much better back then but still. No matter what year it is, if you're going to put forth the effort to scrap valuable metals, it's definitely worth the time to clean that copper because they rip you a new one on the uncleaned stuff they hardly have to put much work into in bulk to clean. Scrappers are a shifty lot- you gotta keep your eye on them so you don't get too screwed selling your bloodied knuckles and sweat.

Just found your vid- nice old stove- good score. You are missing a good tidbit in the switches for the controls and power- the contacts are usually silver over copper- an older stove can net 10 grams depending on the switches/contacts. Save a bucket full- and you have a few ounces of silver at 15+ bucks an ounce… even nicer!

From what I understand the outer casing on the heating elements are stainless steel, filled with magnesium oxide power with a central wire of 80% nickel and 20% chrome basically nichrome wire. Separating these out into their constituent components would be tough indeed without a commercial shredder to separate them. If you could separate them you can sell the internal heating wire as nichrome for like $6 a pound, though there isn't much wire inside of there.

You can get $10 to $60 for a set of those stove knobs on ebay. Just need the part numbers.

You look like a very neat and tidy scrapper. I don't like seeing those who just batter things with hammers and have all the bits flying off everywhere. "Sod's Law" means you'll only find them when you're walking round bare footed - ouch!

That's true, but you have write down the brand and model of the appliance so you can sell them in ebay or ubid.

Very time consuming to research a part, test to see if it works, take photos, list it on ebay, package it, send it off and then pay your ebay fees. Then at least 1 out of 10 sales go bad. I'd rather be out scrappin.

Older oven from early 1980's or older has lot mercury in thermostat. When working on an old 1970's oven I was snipping copper coil off thermostat Mercury was dripping out and I was like holy shit! Now the coil filled with some kind of gas.

Otherwise nice try because EPA would busted my ass if they see me accidentally spill Mercury. Now I just took whole thermostat out and drop off at free hazardous waste drop off near landfill instead of getting only 50 cents for this.

nick4leader I had a problem at the scrap yard the other day and it was not nice . I have been doing this for a few years and from day one I was told that it was #2 copper or that was what they were going to pay me . I was also getting #2 price for all copper pipe as well clean or not . NOT any more , I found a guy that will come to my home and buy everything for the same price . Saves me time and gas and that equals $$$ . Thanks for watching .

Sounds to me like ya won the lottery on that deal. The time to strip it is one thing but you still gotta locate them go pick them up that translates to time a suitable le vehicle fuel and maintenance. Seems like a loss to me.

Damn you make me feel lazy I did strip out the dishwasher of all the stainless steel copper and other pieces I could grab a hold of it but that's because the main body of the dishwasher is plastic. I do have an oven and a trash compactor and I am basically just going to sell them as is

Strip the power cord? No way! Toss it in a box in the corner and sell a box of a hundred for 60 bucks, they take about 2 minutes to harvest so you have 2 hours labor per hundred.Harvest them in 2 minutes and strip them in 10 minutes is 20 hours labor for 260 bucks per hundred. Why??Work smarter, not harder.

The biggest piece of advice that everyone needs to know call your yards and ask them what Shredder is paying Shredder is the least price you will get by not separating stuff there's one in St Louis Illinois you call them up and ask him for Shredder and there comment is what you have to bring it in so we can see what you got avoid people like that because they are thieves when you call and ask what Shredder is its the bottom price so you refuse to tell me your bottom price how is that possible the reason you ask for their cheapest price that tells you if they're paying 180 at one place and 1:35 at the other place it tells you if they're paying the highest legitimate price then that shows it don't pay a better price on your clean Copper Brass and such when I call and ask about Shredder and they refused to tell me on the phone I laugh at him and hang up Duke in Chicago they have a great big price like a gas station lit up sign I think they should pass a law where your Shredder price should have to be posted outside the gate I would like everybody's opinion on that
