Rest assured, I still watch for videos, old and new, repeatedly. I learned more from you than the others. And you are right about how time consuming they are. I've torn apart a few cell phones now. The stuff on the back of the white sheet that comes into contact with the gold plate (4:31) looks like silver. Is it? Some of the same stuff showed up in my wife's old non-working glucometer as well. Quite a bit of gold in those, by the way.

Well, as you have pointed out....I have been saving the monolithic and, now, tantalum capacitors. I don't go crazy when a single connector pin drops but I do look for it....every piece of gold counts. Moose, what are the gold colored pieces from cellphones that are not magnetic and don't react to the A/P solution? Also, still haven't been able to get my processed mixture back to clear using stainless steel like you said. It sure does draw the copper though! But I'd really be happy to see a video from you on this....I know it sounds minimal but, if we are going to walk the walk, we need to know how to else the mixture. Thanks!!

Hi and thanks for watching! I am currently not processing material for other people. I think your best bet would be to find a scrap yard that buys circuit boards and I am not quite sure what you are referring to as voltage sources but most scrap yards are willing to let you know what you have and what its worth. The NiMh batteries are not really worth anything, they just need to be recycled. The lithium ion batteris can be sold by weight to many online companies. Thanks!

Hey Moose! Discovered you about 6 weeks ago and finally got up to date on your vids. Absolutely love 'em. My question regarding pins: The male pins are obvious, but how do you extract the hidden female pins from connectors in a timely manner? Possible vid?
@moosescrapper5928
@moosescrapper5928 10 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! The timely manner part is what is difficult with the female ends. Honestly, I box them up and sell them by the pound. Once you get your name out there and people start to really reach out to you with scrap its hard to keep up and there is less time for the smaller time consuming things. I think original feets has a video or two on some easy ways to remove those things with a simple petal pick. Thanks!

Hey MOOSE ! Glad to have a moment to watch another of your Excellent, "WAY, EH!" i have learned so much from your instructional, I have not been "Seriously", injured, harmed, or misled. You are a Straight Shooting Son of A Mom. :) That said, Thank You so much for taking your time to make these presentations. They truly are splendid, and informative, in such a laid back setting. It's like we was "kicking it OLD SCHOOL." I make money every time I go to the Salvage Yards. At least once a week in the good weather. Fortunately for me I do have an unlimited supply to most if not all, of the products you and others have shown do in fact contain Gold. I am sure I am about to learn something from this video. At present I have about 30 + Cell phones. I was going to try and trade them to a wheeler, for a tablet or something in the 50-100$ range. Do you think that 30 phones properly dissected could yield that sort of cash in Gold? 3-4 Are indeed BlackBerry products and like Motorola they know where and how much Gold is required to make speed and less interruptions in all of their connections. I have taken 1 Blackberry apart and could not believe how much and heavy their plating is. On a side note, I have obtained a PDF doc on-line published by what seems like the most reliable source of information on amounts used in all electronics. It states that it only takes 80 Full Sized Sim cards to equal 1 oz. of Gold. Having more than 40 in my small stack makes me wonder, especially seeing below comments that it takes 10,000 of these??? Been parting these items for years now and my pile ready for processing is getting just about right. If I had not been ripped off by CJ Environmental Recyclers I would have double what I have now. They gave me $40 US for ALL THE Material I sent. Which did include 30-40 CPU's and much more? I know there are thieves out there but watch out for those clowns, people. Cheers ! By the way my Local Pub, now no longer pouring ales, was and still is known as 'THE MOOSE CROSSING" obviously due to the number of moose we have up here in US Jr. :) Well let it roll, and I will pay attention. GOOD ON YOU MOOSE.

Elo moose.great vibe.whats best to use for removing the goldplating in the boards? Muriatic/bleach or muriatic/hydrogen peroxide? Sorry m new w/scrapping.whatS is "a hot sand bath"for removing the things in boards.nid help n clarification..
@moosescrapper5928
@moosescrapper5928 10 жыл бұрын
Hi and thanks for watching. The hot sand bath is basically a tray of sand that you get to over 500-600 degrees F and set the boards in the sand to quickly loosen and then scrape off all the parts stuck to the board. Once that is done, I think the AP method is best for removing the gold foils. Thanks!

When you AP SIM cards, can you leave them intact while soaking in AP? Meaning, do I have to peel the foil section off the plastic card first?
@moosescrapper5928
@moosescrapper5928 10 жыл бұрын
Intact is just fine. May need to soak just a little longer but still likely a lot less time spent than peeling each one off. Sorry to hear about your job, but there is nothing with gold recovery that can or should be done quickly. Gold recovery is great and can make yo umoney, but you may find hat you can make more money with other scrap metals like copper, brass, aluminum and steel. Best of luck to you!

AND now I know. Once again Moose, great to see you doing what you do. Thank You for sharing and posting for others to learn. You are an Excellent Teacher by the way. My Heart did not sink when you gave your estimate on the number of SIM's required, even though I had entirely misread the PDF from eScrap Refining, that does confer with what you are talking about. Approx. 1,000 SIMS = 1 OZ. Gold. Sorry for being a long winded bug, Moose, but in general when the Oz. is used in Recycling/Refining of the precious metals, is it always in the Troy Weight, being not 28 Grams/Oz as the Metric/Standard Measure, but a 30 Gram Oz. I am asking because is the World Trading Standard not Troy, always, in precious metals. Even better is this a rule for other metals as well? or is the ACTUAL WEIGHT just required to specify whether it is a Troy Oz or not? I will do some research today on why this system does not come to bare, say in the Grocery Industry?
@moosescrapper5928
@moosescrapper5928 8 жыл бұрын
+M P.L great questions, I still have not confirmed the # of sims per oz. As for measurement, I tend to stick to grams. Less confusion that way and all of the batches I have run have been less than either ounce anyway so grams works just fine for me. Best of luck to you!

hey moose. I have to ask you several questions. I know CPU has gold in cell phones and circuite boards as well. you said that there is arround 4 USD on each cell phone. But can you also show us what is and where is brass there, silver, palladium or platinum? it is hard to recognise them sometimes. And how many circuit boards do i need to make an 1 ounce (troy) of gold? I am trying as a hobby to scrap phones for myself. Can you help me please to identify all theese metals and where they are? thanks
@moosescrapper5928
@moosescrapper5928 9 жыл бұрын
lubiatty1 Hi and thanks for watching! To get one troy ounce of gold you will probably need at least 50 lbs of cell phone boards. There will also be a few different gold recovery processes involved. The first of course is cleaning the board off, getting all the components off and solder. There is almost never any clean brass in cell phones. At least none that is not gold plated. Recognizing the sources of gold becomes easy after practice. The four major sources of gold in cell phones is 1-the plated board, 2-ic's, 3-crystal oscillators, and 4-gold plated pins and metal connectors. Silver and palladium are found in the monolithic ceramic capacitors, and no where else in the phone to my knowledge. There are also Tantalum capacitors. I will try to do a more clear video on the components.
@lubiatty1

Thanks for your message. I have trouble to recognize in very old cell phones, kind a like a retro cell phones, i took it a part and i pulled out antenas (aerial), which i belived was gold and other parts connected to it which look really big and they are heavy as well. it is slightly magnetic and under 10 kt acid test on stone shows possitive for gold i believ. not on 14 kt, then the result is negative. This is why i asked about the brass in cell phones. i tested my neckless 10 kt and shows me exactly the same result on acid tests. i am really confused about that couse they slightly magnetic. I follow your channel, couse i have the same hobby as you and want to save some more gold, silver and palladium etc. for times when i have a big bulk of them and refine it into a bars. I read on some articles, that in 1 ton of cell phone is 3,5 kg silver, 300-350g gold and other metal like palladium or platinum. thats why i was asking where is the silver there in that ammount. thanks a lot for your comments and knowlage.
@moosescrapper5928
@moosescrapper5928 9 жыл бұрын
lubiatty1 Hi there, the acid tests will not work for plated items because the gold is so thin that the acids quickly get through to the base metal which is often brass with a thin layer of nickel on it. THis gives you a false reading. Something could be 24k gold plated and the acid test will show less than 10k. As for the silver in cell phones, the only place that I am aware of there being silver is in the solder and on the monolithic ceramic capacitors which have both silver and palladium. Hope this helps a little. And yes, you do need that much material to get the gold however, in most cases the working phones can be sold on ebay for way more than 10 times their precious metal value.
@lubiatty1
@lubiatty1 9 жыл бұрын
You really helped me now. I thought i am crazy or something and that is not gold. So what shoud i do with thoose parts? i have got like 7 parts about 10g toghether, they are big,solid and heavy... so how do i get the gold out of thoose? would take ages in hcl and bleech as you shown in previous videos i believe.
@moosescrapper5928
@moosescrapper5928 9 жыл бұрын
lubiatty1 The best way to recover the gold from large solid plated items like that is to use reverse electroplating. I have not tried that method yet but have learned that it is the most efficient method for that type of material. I am saving up those things until I have a few pounds before I try it.

By the way I currently figured out the very sophisticated method of extracting gold and actually any other element in their pure forms in two fastest and most efficient steps possible!And what I mean is that I just load the entire bowl with cell phones or whatever and add sodium hydroxide pellets exactly up to cover them all and then I simply melt the sodium hydroxide on my hot plate and in several minutes after the sodium hydroxide starts melting and reacting with everything-I just have my precious metals undissolved on the bottom and all the rest is after that soluble by simple water-so I end up with actually a possibility of complete and precise elemental analysis of for example phone-and what I noticed is that I almost every time end up with higher yields then I see here on KZbin!So just try it yourself!

what kt is most of the gold? Is it only one say 14k or is it 24? Never heard anyone say. Love your youtube videos.

good question. 24K gold is all gold. Well, 99% or more. It drops down after that. Gold can be mixed with different metals like silver (most often), but also platinum and copper. 22K is 91.6% gold, 18K is 75% gold, 14k is 58.5, 10k 41.7% gold.

smart phones and touch screen phone are worth much more money sold as is even if broken. WAY more than scrap price. I did not show a smart phone here because I sell them rather than scrap them to make the most money possible.

Moose, Are you sure about the 1000 quantity. I have 600 plus sims pop'ed off the cards, I heard it took 33,000 to get an ounce of gold
@moosescrapper5928
@moosescrapper5928 10 жыл бұрын
I have not tested it myself, only from what I read. The age I suppose could also be a factor, the older ones likely had a little more gold on them. 33k sounds like an awful lot to make 1 oz..... well, if you are at 600, you could process 500 and should come out with .5 oz, if not, then my numbers are wrong! Best of luck to you!
@eurobimmer635

Hey Moose, Yeah I thought 33,000 was a little out there but who knows. I'm going to wait until I have an even 1000 and process them and see what I get. I'm at 750 as of this morning. You'll be the first to know the outcome. Keep up the great work Bro

Hey Moose, LOVE ALL YOUR VIDEOS!! I have a question about the "black 24kt flatwire in cell phones ,high end tv,etc. there is a post on boardsort that says they will not buy this wire. why? One of the post says it's the holly grail of wire, but then puts up what I took as a disclaimer. any ideas?? BTW keep up the good videos I've learned a lot from you!!
@moosescrapper5928
@moosescrapper5928 8 жыл бұрын
Well, that wire is extremely thin. Just the ends are gold plated, with a very thin layer (microns). So for weight, there is far more plastic insulation than there is metal. THis is why its not bought, or paid very little for as wire. In order to recover the gold, you have to clip off the ends. That can take a long time if you have a big bag of them. Plus, it also takes a long time to build up a good weight of the trimmed edges. They are fine for the home recovery and refininer, just throw them in with your trimmed fingers.

Have U ever gotten hurt? Because I am a 10 year old with gold fever so I been on KZbin. I was excited so much I took my Moms old cellphone to try it. And while I was taking out a aluminum frame I pulled so hard it suddenly budged and it made a gash and it went clear to my bone so anyway be careful. Peace.

Basically, the goal is to find cell phones for as close to free as you can get, then sell them for a buck a piece. Then you take that money and buy gold bullion. Save yourself the headache. Processing them is NOT worth it.

Hi there ja thats apsolutley corect. Gold is a hobby. Copper on the other hand is rewarding, if you can get it that is. I think most rewarding is scrapp it self. Pick it up deliver it cash in hand, no fuss no slaving over stripping prikle copper. Rufe tin is also verry rewarding cause u always get heavy lead and the tin is in comparison it alloy a verry heavy and well payed sorse of cash. Thats my opinion anyway Regards. Oh by the way i watch all your vids. Cu

As much as I enjoy watching your vids, and have been a subscriber for some time, this one was a bit lacking in fact. Plenty of opinion but not enough research and fact. I could show you some cell phone boards with a lot of gold plating on them. I do realize that once you have KZbin sending you a check every month based on your videos, it must be hard to stay true to your original drive and vision.
@moosescrapper5928
@moosescrapper5928 10 жыл бұрын
I am sorry you feel that way. I will reassess my videos more carefully before releasing them. I will however stand behind the statements about the amount of gold on cell phone boards. There simply is not a whole lot coupled with the time it takes to deconstruct the phone, depopulate the board then process, as well as the availability of phones in volume, it is my opinion, as well as many others in the refining biz and on the goldrefiningforum that your better money will be in gold fingers off RAM chips, PCI cards, slot processors, etc. While the boards may display a lot of gold surface area, that gold plating is extrememly thin. I do sincerely thank you for the honest and constructive criticism though. That is infinitely more valuable than just calling me a sell out or something. Thanks again for taking the time to comment!
