Thanks for another great video. So I decided to make my own bubler along the same lines as yours, but thanks to your advice, decided not to use nylon ties. Instead I just drilled a lot of small holes through a plastic disk, then threaded the tube up and down through it. Works really well.

Having a ball watching Moose. Got a couple of boxes of motherboards I picked up cheap ripped the coolers off and smelted then down into ingots now for the gold and just tuben around seeing whats out there without getting meself arrested for buying some stuff that I am not supposed to have(some chemicals are not good) so far your approach is for me approachable and understandable. I actually wrote an email to a bloke who had a website backyard chemistry one or two beer processes but unfortunately I got a reply from a mate of his saying he was no longer available due to a mishap in his lab miscalculated the process of beer perhaps lol. Keep up the good work. Ron bloke

I just realized you need one small upgrade for your bucket... you need a set of holes at the top, or near the top around the sides/ Why? So you can get actual fluid flow through the bucket. If you just put air in the bottom, and let it bubble, the air will carry some acid up. The problem comes in when the air can't carry any more acid up because the liquid has no place to go... Think like the undergravel filter in an aquarium when the water is low. Yeah the bubbles will still go up but there's no place to carry the water to. So, by putting some holes in the sides of the bucket as high as practically possible with whatever liquid level you have, the air can then pump the acid through the fingers, and then out the sides and then actually circulate the fluid vs just aerating it. Basically it means it will increase the efficiency and speed because it's constantly pulling fresh acid through the fingers. Good video!

Hey Moose, Great videos ! I have just started trying to recover gold from electronics. I have a question about older cell phones. I have noticed that some of the boards are gold plated under green paint or fiber material. The gold covers most of the board. Do I need to remove the paint/material to expose the gold before give it the acid bath like you did with the board fingers or how do I go about reclaiming that gold? There seems to be a lot on there. Thanks.
@moosescrapper5928
@moosescrapper5928 9 жыл бұрын
David McNeal The gold woll only come off if you take the green solder mask off. Mix a solution that is 80% water and 20% lye and heat until just boiling. Don't get any on your skin!!! Don't worry about fumes. Place the board in there for about 10 minutes and the solder mask should wipe right off.

Heya Moose, i noted a couple of things in the video (a very nice and easy to understand video by the way), firstly in the headline you mention pins, but i only noticed fingers in the acctual video, would be very nice to see a video for a similiar simple process for pins. secondly you use the term AP several times, did i miss somethng or wasnt this all about hydrocloric and air ? no peroxide. Keep up the nice work, you are an inspiration for us beginners in the buisness :)
@moosescrapper5928
@moosescrapper5928 10 жыл бұрын
Hi and thanks for watching and commenting! I did not put pins in there for this video. I like to process things seperately. The title is to note that you can use this method to recover a variaty of things from gold fingers, plated pins, cell phone boards, etc. The term AP I do use, and I suppose that is a pit confusing. I am not adding hydrogen peroxide however I am adding oxygen with the air bubbler. When the process is completed, the chemical make up of this vs true AP is identical. Good catch!

That seems like a lot of work for such a small amount of gold. I find thousands of dollars worth of gold, silver, platinum and diamonds per year. Just by metal detecting at the beach. I found somewhat of an answer in the comments on HCL and heat... Could you estimate that purity?
@moosescrapper5928
@moosescrapper5928 10 жыл бұрын
daynon gnant The purity from just recovering the gold with HCL and heat is impossible to guess as there is going to most definintely still be some nickel, or other base metal in there. If you then take the foils and process them with HCL and bleach to refine it, then you will end up with 22K and up. Thanks!
@DonaldMelton
@DonaldMelton 8 жыл бұрын
hey moose , here's a trick you can use to get more contaminates out of your gold . after you have recovered the foils , wash them in boiling water and the in boiling HCL .then do the drop . that will bring your gold up to a much higher purity .

Hi moose I've watched some of your videos. Just wondering do you have a single video explains the complete process from start to finish or links to the individual videos I have the ram chips and the contacts from memory channels on the motherboards am I correct there is 2 processes for the 2 types?Thanks for your time
@moosescrapper5928
@moosescrapper5928 9 жыл бұрын
+mike Stafford Great question, I have had a lot of requests for a video like that but it would be a half our video at least. THe processes are roughly the same though you need to do them separately. There are three different materials here. You have the IC chips from the ram, the gold plated fingers on the ram chip, and the gold plated pins on the mother board where the ram chips connects. The gold plated pins neeed to be soaked in a 50/50 hcl peroxide solution. It takes days but the gold comes off. The trimmed fingers get soaked in HCL with an aior bubbler (preferred) or a ratio of no more than 4:1 hcl and peroxide. As for the IC's that is a multi step process that I am working on making the video for.

Hi there!! I have a few questions regarding this method: - Does this method also removes other (unwanted) metals or just the gold foils if I have boards conatining different metals. - Is this method also effective for pins or just for stuff like ram and boards? - Is this method as same effective as the Hydrochlorid Acid & Hydrogen Peroxide one? - Is it better to seperate gold plated metals from gold plated plastic? Sorry for bothering you with that much questions :(
@moosescrapper5928
@moosescrapper5928 9 жыл бұрын
+MrHollabk This method will consume base metals like copper, brass, nickel, etc and leave the more non reactive metals like gold and silver alone for the most part. This method is most effective for boards because the amount of metal being dissolved to release the gold foil is extrememly thin where as the amount of metal required to be removed from pins to release the foil is exponentially more. Some would argue this method is more effective as the air bubble do not dilute the HCL like adding peroxide does. This is my preferred method. I am a purist. I like to have as little to possibly go wrong as possible so I would suggest separation.

Awesome as usual, Moose! So basically, although you said do them in separate batches, all gold plated pins, etc. can be processed with this method along with all the fingers, cell phone boards, etc? Would you process the CPU pins this way as well? Wasn't sure if they would be different as they seem to be plated thicker (??). Thanks again for all the info and 1) can't wait til Spring to use your lye method for printed circuit /cell phone boards!

Hey there! The lye vide is already out! Check out my channel page. CPU pins are most easily processed by putting them in a beaker or coffee pot with some HCL (Muriatic acid) and boiled for about an hour. All the foils should come off and float on up to the top.

Hello Moose Scrapper I have enjoyed many of your videos, I was wondering what would be the equivalent UK version of the Crown Muriatic Acid Nxt you are using that has the low fumes. I am currently using the Hydrochloric Acid 36%, lots of fumes coming out. I am using the correct equipment breathing mask/ glass and gloves. but it would just make it a lot easier if I could get something similar to what you've got

Nice video moose. I put all my gold plated pins in ap. Solution and not much gold has come off. I used 3\1. Muriatic \peroxide. Solution. I have put it on a hot plate. For a while also. Its been 3 days. And it is cold out I'm in Ohio. Any suggesyions?

For gold plated pins you have a couple of options without using nitric acid. You can use just HCL and heat. Remember that 1 gallon of HCL can hold 2 lbs of base metal so make sure there is enough HCL to dissolve the material in your beaker. 2, Origianl feets preferes to use a ration of 1:1 of HCL and peroxide, no heat. He has had some good results with this just be sure to check the solution for dissolved gold beofre discarding as that much peroxide can start to dissolve the gold. Best of luck!

Hey Moose got a question for you and it may be a dumb one but Im looking for a way to make this process quick and easy while still making money. If you could give me a simple yes or no that would be great, some explanation would be better but a video on how it would work, if it does, would be awesome. I was wondering if its possible or even worth it to collect gold foils using the A/P method then cut out a few steps by just melting down the foils instead of purifying it with chemicals. I would like to avoid strong acids if possible and I know Feets melts down pins and all. I would think the final product would be of good quality, not quite pure, without having to buy and use strong acids. Just wondering if you have tried it or would recommend that I dont. I was considering asking Feets also but wanted your input first. Thank you for your time and wisdom.

OK Moose, I enjoy your videos very much as well as "dadrules714" & I have been scrapping about 40 years, off & on, but this gold is pretty new to me...I say to anyone asking about getting gold from scrap "Anything"... to keep itt a hobby view point and have fun with it...the economy and the metal markets move up or down daily, thus for " extra money" its OK...but as a full time business...its often Hard work to pay bills and make ends meet...like now with metal prices falling F A S T...a pickup truck or a utility trailer load of scrap tin hardly pays the fuel ...that being said...Thank You Moose for a great series of informative videos...BobC

what would you recomend i do with computer hard ware? i recently moved into an apartment and trashed 2 computers into the dumpster... there was not much i could do to stop it happening, we did not have room to store them any longer. i know there was atleast a gram inside of each. i hoped.

Hi anf thanks for watching! Dont feel too bad about trashing the two computers unless they were pentium pro or older. If they were newer, then it is very unlikely you have 1 gram between the both and thats if you processed every single part of it. If you cant store much of it, then I would sell it. There are lots of buyers on ebay and on boardsort.com. Best of luck to you!

Nothing. The tubing stayed down there on its own well enough. What I am going to be doing is taking an old bleach bottle and cutting the plastic into long strips with a pair of scisors and use those to tie it down.

hey nice videoes im from denmark and me and my freind has started this as a hobby we have some procesors and pin's from ram sockets. i have 2 questions first is how can it be when we use the acid on gold from the sucket pins it seems like there is no gold and the second is the gold in the acid that the filter dosent take can u get that back to solid form i hear u say it in the video but cant really hear it
@moosescrapper5928
@moosescrapper5928 9 жыл бұрын
jens toft The plating on the socket pins is really minimal so you would need at least a pound of them to get measurable gold. The gold does not often go into the solution when processing pins because of the quantity of base metals. If you feel some gold is in solution, you can take a clean piece of copper pipe and place it in the solution.. It will super saturate the solution with copper forcing the gold out usually as a black powder.

How much does the acid cost? can you use it more than once? how much gold do you get, does it justify the cost and time?
@moosescrapper5928
@moosescrapper5928 10 жыл бұрын
Mike Paul Hi and thanks for watching! I have a few videos about things you need to know about gold recovery and refining. HCL, the only acid I use is about $8 a gallon. That gallon can be used over and over especially if you are using an air bubbler system. As for the amount of gold recovered versus the time, well that's something only you can answer. In this series of three videos the one pound of trimmed fingers yielded about 2.5 grams of gold at or above 22K. This amount completely pays for all the chemicals and equipment used. I can reuse everything but the coffee filters, bleach and smb however those are sold in packs that will last several runs. You could easily use the same materials to recover several ounces of gold.

hey moose, it may be a dumb question. but what happens if you put the whole motherboard in a/p solution to recover all the gold from the pins instead of cutting all the pins off.

+BMAN488877 A nightmare....typically. As I mention in all of my gold recovery videos, it is VERY important to not try and take short cuts. It is also VERY important to keep solutions as clean as possible and know just what you are putting in there. There are so many things that can screw up the process but if you are only putting in a certain thing then its easier to fix the problem. If you throw the whole board in there, here is a short list of what can happen, this does not include everything:Some plastics can soften and gel up capturing gold making it extraordinarily difficult to recover. HCL reacts violently with aluminum and then the aluminum settles with the gold, making it very hard to separate. Your solution will not be able to be revived by simply pulling the copper out. The tin, lead, and antimony in the solder can gel up or precip a white powder making it very difficult to recover the gold foils. This is just to name a few things. You simply can not take short cuts or try to speed things up. Hope this helps, be safe!
