Scrapping VCR's for Copper - Is it Worth it? - Trash to Treasure - ASMR Copper Metal Melting

Welcome back to the Blue Pallet Series 2, Episode 7. Today I scrap out 2 VCR's. Is it worth scrapping them out? How much copper is inside?
Once I get them all scrapped out, I weigh up the copper and then melt it down in my Devil-Forge furnace. Once melted, I cast it into a copper ingot, clean it up and stick it on the table with the rest of the ingots from the series.

I liked the comment on % weight. That's a valuable #. I big take is nice. Like a pool heater. But a high % of volume is better. Depending also on your time. But time is also offset , in the time you get to look over your reward.

Yup the higher percentage is always good. A lot of things that have low yield, I just clip the cords and stockpile them for a rainy day

Thanks brother! I’ll be completely honest. Cut the cords off and call it good! Unless you cash in tiny electric motors and circuit boards (I cash it all in), not worth the time to scrap them completely in my opinion

Yes VCRs are 97% copper by weight and 48% by volume 🤣

Set mold on top when it's melting it will be good and hot by the time you pour.

Usually I do with the 5lb mold. Just afraid it will fall in the vent because it’s sooooo tiny 🤣

I wonder what the gold plated wheel. That the vcr tape rolls around. Is made of? Brass? Aluminum?

I think it’s brass but I’m unsure at the moment. When I get back to the shop today I’ll take another look at it and get back to you with my findings. Thanks for watching brother!
