Okay I’ll tell you what happened. I had a big box in the 44 gallon drum and when I put the large furnace lid on there it’s started to make the box smoulder so I took the box out thinking it would go out and when I turn back it was fully engulfed in flames, I found it quite humorous as I didn’t even realise until it was completely ablaze 👌🏻😁

Brotha… I spent 10 years in bed, another couple learning to eat solid foods and walk properly. I lost over 100 lbs. Had pancreatitis 5 times, and a double neck fusion with myelopathy this year, 8+ months after the injury while lifting my 225 lb. dad after he fell. I take care of my 85 year old Dad with Parkinson’s and Congestive Heart Failure, and my 80 year old Mom (though she’s a tank, God bless her!). I’m getting there, brotha! Never giving up! I can’t wait to pursue the type of existence you live, it’s so beautiful! Clear skies, no Chem trails, surrounded by clean air and nature, doing what you love… God bless you! Thank you so much for sharing these 7 years, I want to watch every video, and will over time, haha! I can’t wait to learn more and get my own furnace and crucibles, and learn this great art! AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! ITS FRIDAY!!! So yeah that was quite impressive with the boot launching, but does anyone else have the funny feeling that the Copper ingots still in front of the chest that haven't been wire brushed, just might be remelted into that bruiser ingot 🤔. I don't know, but it doesn't seem like BIGD to keep unpolished copper lying around. We all know it's his favorite. And well frankly mine also to watch. Keep it up BIGD we all love it!!!!! Side note, I still need a copper coin to go with the brass ones from a couple years ago 😊

Greetings from Poland! ;-) Maybe you should consider using a hydraulic press for aluminium cans. After initial squeezing of them, you could use a press to pack them inside a tube, which diameter would be similar to inner diameter of the crucibles. This way you avoid throwing single cans to the pot while melting and speed up the process ;-)

Small tip! To save on gas, time and handwork put the crushed cans in a small oil barrel (made out of steel). Then put firewood around the barrel and let it burn. To increase efficiency you can have a brick wall around the fire or do it in a pit to keep the heat from escaping. When it gets to temperature the aluminum cans will melt and you can continuously feed it more cans and wood. Note that you can’t melt a large amount of cans at the same time cause the fridge barrel walls will give in and molten aluminum will spill out. What I would do is to take scoops out of it and make crude bars or pellets that will be remelted later.

I've read that the alloy in cans is designed to be press formed and thus isn't the best for casting. Would be interesting to see can aluminum cast side by side with casting aluminum (broken aluminum car rims can be had fairly cheap) and, assuming there is much of a difference, if you could add something to the can aluminum to get it to cast just as well.

Great alternative way to reduce volume of beverage cans is to make a shredder for the out of a lawn mower, just drill a hole in the deck of the mower big enough and weld a funnel of sorts on it, then start feeding those cans in. I usually do my weekly batch on Saturdays from 5AM to 11. Great fun. My neighbors are very animated probably just glad they have such an industrious man living next to them. A couple small suggestions for your can crusher: 1. If you have some sort of a flap that drops down over the can while the plunger progresses, it can keep the can from popping out. You could even have some sort of a cam that opens it back up when the plunger pulls back. 2. Some sort of hopper wouldn't be terrible to build that also aligns the cans as they need to be. It would take some testing and validation to get it right, but it would be well worth it the next time you have that kind of volume to work with.

@@bigstackD Just watched the video, amazing btw! If you can make skulls out of Bronze, Copper, Nordic gold, and Brass, you can use them along side the Aluminum skull to make a summoning circle and summon either a beer or pizza for BigSnackD!

What is the purpose behind removing the pull tabs?

Maybe so when he crushes them they don’t become flying projectiles.

Likely for donations. I remember when I was a kid they took tabs as a donation to build wheelchairs or something.

As a heads up to those who are unaware, and an answer to those embarrassed to ask, do you rinse and/or take any other actions to prep your cans?
@Rhiawhyn
@Rhiawhyn Жыл бұрын
The prep is to preheat them so there's no moisture. There's no point in washing them out as the only thing in there would be water and various organic compounds. Given the fact that you are using a redox forge, it all leaves as co2. Tldr, make sure can is dry, crush and off you go.

No mate no prep work but I do like to leave the cans out in the open for a few hot days and that normally drys them completely although some of these ones did have a little bit of moisture still in them. In the Aussie heat you wouldn’t need to leave these out very long over summer👍🏻

I estimated about 10Kg for the big bar. So, I wasn't that far off. I'd love to see one made of copper that size! 😉

I wish I was the son of a rich guy then I could quit my full-time job and just melt metal all day. This is purely a hobby that I do that’s why I stack it all up and don’t sell it👍🏻

Is it just me or is watching that crusher crush cans so hypnotic? I used to do this manually with a hammer as a kid in my village living years. It was quite nice to reduce a "big" can into a dense puck of metal.

Truly love your work friend! Been melting a couple years now, self taught and of course help from you, I've found a neat way to get every last bit of aluminum out of your slag, i live on top of a mountain in Tennessee with a good bit of forest so I throw the slag a fire pit and and burn for several hours and the remaining aluminum melts out of the slag and into the ash and I end up with fresh aluminum for my next melt.. Thank you for your great work!!
