Did you know there is a less wasteful way to use the sheets. Just cut a small piece of the dryer sheet and rub it over the cut edge of the die. And cut on card as usual. I have hard a box of sheets for at least 2 years and still have plenty left.

Another thing that works for me is a single layer of good parchment paper… I purchase mine at a natural foods store. It’s not silicone coated so it doesn’t dull the die. A thin waxed paper also works well. I mistakenly bought a box which was only waxed on one side and I use it for crafting.

I used to have an issue with intricate die cuts until I purchased an electric die cutting machine (Gemini). This was during the time Stampin Up stop selling the Big Shot but had not released the Stamp, Cut & Emboss machine. Now the pieces just fall out. I don’t need a brush or anything. The pressure is just so much much better than a manual machine.

It is bad for your health. Most of those sheets contain a health warning in Europe. Never use if you are giving to a person with respiratory difficulties or at risk of cancer. It is best to use parchment/wax sheets or do as parchment artists do, rub the back of card with a tea light candle or tiny bit of beeswax.

Love the dryer sheet hack. I was searching for info on a bubble wrap hack similar purpose too. I've been using Sizzix Chrome Precision Plate not so much to avoid having to weed with the picking tool but it almost guarantees it'll cut through the TOUGH CENTERED MEMBRANE of Glitter Card Stock. Otherwise as we all know cutting cleanly through glitter card stock and some other fancy papers or vinyls can be difficult if not down right impossible no matter how many shims or passes through the die cutting machines. I happen to love glitter card stock. I even make my won via buying super fine no slough off glitter wall paper with self adhesive backing. place the backing removed onto 65# card stock and voila one sided glitter paper. If you add another layer of glitter wall paper to the other side of the card stock you could make two but you'll be thicker too. All these things as you know is experimentation. Love to think outside the box but with care and respect for your machines and equipment and of course safety always first. I'd heard about the dryer sheet purpose but never thought much about it. I don't seem to have to struggle too much with weeding. Now and again there is a die that just does not drop it's pieces. When you demonstrated the brush roller and foam base I have this but quickly found it not that helpful. For one thing I have dies that are not open enough on the non cutting side. Sometimes in fact almost entirely closed. Just a few poke to release holes available. So rolling the brush over that will not be helpful. And yes I have used the brush over the cut out die too to release bits still clinging or chads clinging. Meantime perhaps the dryer sheet will work with those solid backed dies. Worth a try. I have a lovely pear die that is quite intricate and it's open so look forward to trying with a dryer sheet for sure. (I planned to make approx 30-40 cards for a special event. And include a poached pair recipe I created using cream, brandy, nutmeg, vanilla. Easy and delicious. For our 50th. Anyway it'll get rightly tiresome weeding with a poking tool that many cuts. LOL!

I had forgotten about using the dryer sheet until recently. I used a new one and it left lots of fuzzy material. I tried a used sheet and seemed to work better. I guess it might be related to pressure of your machine and the sandwich of plates used. I, too, heard it can damage the die but can't seem to find anything to support that.

Cool idea, but I'm not so sure about the last idea on leaving the bits on the sheet, cutting around it and then putting that on a card. I would think that the stuff in the drier sheet would probably not ahere well to a card and sometimes those things are so fragrant they would be way to potent put in a card?

Regarding some earlier comments: I have a different machine (Sizzix) and it has a precision base plate available that is chrome plated metal. It is made specifically for intricate dies. I don’t understand how using a soft dryer sheet can be any worse than die cutting metal against metal. I have had my base plate for years and my dies have not dulled or been damaged in any way. How can the dryer sheet damage the die?

I was just following directions.

Sounds very satisfying. I have never used or seen a dryer sheet (Kiwi, here), so I'm not quite sure what they are - they look like dry nappy wipes. Have you found any other materials that are similar? Edit: I've just Googled dryer sheets, and I see they are used if you use a tumble dryer rather than a clothes line. Some other commenters suggested waxed paper, so I'll try this with baking paper. Thanks for the idea, Anna!

On this side of the big water, people usually get a dryer machine alongside of their washing machines. Once the washer finished its program, you take out the clothes and put them into the dryer and once that’s finished, the clothes come out dry and much softer than if you hang them on a line or rack. Dryer sheets are meant to put in the dryer with your clothes to help soften, make them smell good, and remove static. The dryer sheets are about A5 size, about as thin as paper and softer (probably infused with softeners) usually pretty cheap, and not very good for the environment or the dryer, if I remember correctly. I don’t use them, but many people still do and they’re available, easy to find and creative/resourceful people find many other uses for them outside of the laundry process. I’m sure if you google them or search for them on KZbin you’ll find more info :) I realize this is about 3mo late, and you probably already found the answer, still, hope this helps someone else who came to the comments to ask this too 😊

This method RUINED my cutting plates! I had to toss them after l couldn’t get the dryer sheet wax off. I also tried using the dryer sheet between the magnetic mat & cutting plate because l had such a problem with static getting shocked removing my plates off the mat. Of course it ruined my mat as well. I tried hot soapy water & alcohol spritzes on the plates & had to toss them. For me, parchment paper, though messy, works best on the intricate or knock-off brand dies. Just my 2¢! 😁

QUESTION, Please: ... Did you use a FRESH dryer sheet? Or a "used" one? You showed us a fresh one when demo-ing the layers idea, but the one peeking out from under the teal card stock does not show the crease of a fresh one. Hmmm 🤔 ... I suppose the machine might have pressed that crease out of it! (( I think I'd grab a piece of Press'N'Seal, smooth that down onto the "bits", pull them off the dry sheet, flip, apply glue, then reposition into the leafy shape ALREADY MOUNTED onto a card base of some coordinating color (or White. Whatever ... ) I don't think I'd trust the dry sheet to hold onto those tiny bits. I suppose you c o u l d gingerly pull o n e layer of the dryer sheet away, and apply glue THROUGH the sheet, and then stick that down on a card base, applying the teal layer, then, over that. ))
