Using the tiniest scraps as batting? That's brilliant! I save all of mine for stuffing and other shenanigans but never considered them for batting 🤔.

For waterproof batting in bags I use the flexible styrofoam from any packages I received. It's dead handy if you live in an area that rains a lot but still want the fabric look. Use it on top of the scrap thread layer and your in business

I agree it was so satisfying to see those itty bitty scraps getting used as batting. I'm saving my ridiculously small pieces to be filling for a pillow in the distant future.

A few months ago I got a quilted tablecloth from my late great-aunt's stash (along with many fabrics and notions) and I figured I would turn it into a cat bed. I wrapped it around a piece of foam from an old mattress and put it on the floor to see if she would like it, but have had no chance to actually make the bed, as the cat insists on lying on it whenever she's in the room. 😸

Great project bag - or rather, cat bed! For holding the fabric and template when doing EPP, I use small metal fold-back clips from stationery supplies. I think they work better than plastic, and they're not plastic, which is always a good thing.

I made a wool knit pajamas for my greyhound and with the scraps I made a crazy quilt bed for my cat. Backed it with a scrap of wool fabric from a long-ago lost cape. Will stuff it with wool from a fleece I used to sleep on in my small viking age tent out at markets, it got damp at one point and didn't dry well but just disintegrated. Louhi, my queen Floof approves of both bed, cuddles and treats, too.

I’m just in the middle of making a bag with smaller hexagon (because you know, smaller hexie means smaller pieces for the stash busting) and was wondering how to make batting. If you can't get a hexagon, can you get a diamond or a gem ( half heart or a minus one point diamond ) or a 1/6 th triangle out of it? Not useless at all after fussy cutting. You can also put a seam or more down the centre of your hexies. I use wooden spring pegs or paper clips to get things held, 1/4" seam allowances are usual in quilting, but where you get odd edges, not quite on bias etc, generosity is needed. They don't behave as expected! I have 49 2" hexagons (4" across the centre)in different styles, waiting for the white accent, to go between so i can piece the blanket. Ladder stitch has it's place. Never stop learning new stitches. You never know where they'll be useful. Try sewing seven hexies together, start at the center, sew out and run the end back through to sew the next one along the centre one. Don't forget the half hexies for the base edge to get it straight. A cushion on lap with tool pockets and ready pieces, will also help when working without a table. Interfacing can help sides stand up better. My tuxedo loves bein on lap in winter. My sister says, you're catted again aren't you. Meaning Not going anywhere. Do you need hexy mug rugs?

I think I'll leave both patchworking and quilting to other people. It is enjoyable, however, to watch others do it, even if it's not for me. (I did some visible mending recently and that's about as close as I would want to come.) I personally have ADD and find this to be a perfect craft for me. I am sort of treating the process as if I’m building a puzzle but I don’t have the box so I’m trying to figure out what the final image is supposed to be as I put the pieces together. Also if you ever step away from it for a moment I love I don’t have to worry about trying to keep the tension the same and that once I started letting go of some of my perfectionist tendencies at least with the basting part it goes pretty fast so know I can usually have a small block done in about a week. I work on them at work in between customers, so I’ve found it’s also been making a great ice breaker as people have been fascinated by what I’m making lol.

Our Textile Inspectors are certain thorough, aren’t they? As a professional theatrical scenic artist and decorative painter, I has assumed your lovely mottled grey background was a painted wall. Since it’s unlike that you transported a way across the country, I imagine that either a) it is a painted cloth, b) you painted a wall in your new home for video continuity, or c) you’re filming at multiple locations. Honestly, I’m not being a creepy walk-obsessed voyeur. It’s my job to notice that sort of thing.
@KristineVikeАй бұрын
You forget that editing is magic, and I can move the timeline around. ;) There are three locations in this video (minus the short moving clips). The old workroom (all white walls), the new workroom (mottled walls, a gift from Spouse ❤️), and the caravan with Shannon. The introduction was filmed last, along with the voiceover, so is in the new workroom with my new, favourite walls. We did not up and run off with our old landlord’s walls, no. But I understand the professional attention. ✨😂
@KristineVikeАй бұрын
Only two of the walls in the new workroom are mottled though. We thought it would be a bit much with all four. The other two are painted in the lightest tone. Which may or may not assist with the multiple location confusion. 👀
