Here's my prototype, the ScrubBoard Jr., which is a feature-reduced version of my tape-scratching device, made to be the model for a Kickstarter campaign that I'm working on. My goal was to make something that will be inexpensive to manufacture, but still easy and fun to use. kickstarter.com...

I'm mad that I didn't hear about this until now and missed the first campaign. That so few could see the potential in this is pathetic. Can't wait!

Thanks man!!! I really appreciate it. To be fair, I think the reason the first kickstarter campaign failed was mostly because I wasn't offering any real backer rewards. It was just me begging for money to help me develop a prototype. But never fear - if you want to buy a real functioning scrubboard, you're in luck! I'll be launching a Kickstarter campaign with real backer rewards in just a few weeks. 🎁

This almost seems better than scratching in that you won't necessarily ruin anything by doing it. you can make your own copies of sounds on blank tapes and do this, vs literally destroying records with the needle...

This is awesome! I built a very similar thing recently with a bunch of tape spooled out over my desk and an old tape head I ripped out of an aux-cassette car adaptor, but it's nowhere near as versatile as this, I can't wait to see how it develops as a product.

Great work!! Magnetism is cosmic! Your gear leave a lot of space for additional tapeheads,so you could easily add tape delay options.That should be even more fun,especialy if you switch tape direction.Greets from a Berlin Tapehead.

Great work! That's a very innovative way of using basic existing technology I like it. Did you ever hear the original music for 'Doctor Who'? I believe that a lot the instruments and sound effects in the track where created by stretching and modifying reel to reel tape.

Amazing. Is there anything stopping me putting a small motor on one of the pegs if they get to market
@jeremyseanbell
@jeremyseanbell 5 жыл бұрын
I think it would definitely be possible to mod this thing to add a motorized tape transport, but unfortunately you'd need to do more than connect a motor to one of the pegs. You'd also need at least one motorized pinch roller to maintain the tension of the tape stretched across the rail, plus another motor if you wanted to be able to run it in both directions. And I haven't even mentioned how you'd regulate the tape speed, as the two reels get bigger/smaller! That's why I've been using tape loops in my fully functional prototypes instead of reels -- much simpler. But anyway, I'm always happy to see when my stuff has sparked people's imagination. Thanks for checking out my videos and for the feedback. More to come soon!

Thanks man! You should check out my newest prototype if you haven't already -- it uses two inch studio tape which I think sounds a lot better. It also has record functionality, which opens up a lot of possibilities, like it can be used as a very fancy tape delay effect. Check it out! kzbin.info/www/bejne/gme2fqyEeZ2bqdE

I certainly never claimed to have invented the concept of tape scratching -- I only claim to have invented the ScrubBoard! I have done a lot of research throughout the patenting process, and I can definitely say with confidence that this particular method of tape scratching is indeed my idea. Tape scratching typically involves moving the tape against a stationary playhead. What makes the ScrubBoard unique is the manual movement of the playhead, which really opens up a lot of new possibilities. Of course the more traditional method of tape scratching has lots of possibilities too, and I would never say that one is better than the other. Every method of scratching has its own unique sound, and it's that variety that I love!
