blue and orange.... complementary colors. or opposite colors on the color wheel. So, it makes sense to have some orange on there. If I looked at that mech w/o watching part 1... I'd have no idea how it was done! and still no idea how you made the mechanical look for the legs even after watching. It was copper pipe before and now it looks all wiring and tubes etc. Nice job on this!!

12:20 now, now, don't blame the tool! heheheheh Oh, I have airbrushed some.... clogging is the #1 problem and trying to keep the nozzle unclogged.... difficult. ALso, it looks like you were using black to shade with. If that's true, I would not have used black. I would have used a transparent blue with maybe a hint of black mixed in. It would have let you build up to some shading w/o going over as easily and also black looks like soot on there but then maybe that is what you were going for. If so, then yeah, black is the color to use! That brush doesn't look particularly cheap. Seems like it is nicely made but no idea. I have Iwata HP-B, Iwata Custom Micron, Olympus HP 102C and an Iwata HPLV gun. The micron is amazing. can nearly paint a single human hair with that thing. What kind of compressor are you using?
@thedarkpower5 жыл бұрын
This was one of those cheap $80 kits from ebay, so the compressor isn't that powerful and the gun is very prone to clogging. I'm probably gonna get an iwata I think. I have another compressor for pneumatic tools which is probably way overpowered but I might see if I can step the pressure down enough to use with an airbrush. I don't know much about air brushing so I was using the Alclad black base for shading, it was coming out pretty well though so I'm eager to have a go with an air brush that doesn't spatter paint all over the place!
@TruthSurge5 жыл бұрын
@@thedarkpower For one, if your big comp has a gauge to dial up pressure output, if it will go down to say 30 psi, that would work. Plus, using those cheap piston compressors.... they are noisy 24/7, they never shut off and they PULSE in the air flow which is going to give you an uneven spray line (subtle, but there). If your good comp can dial up 20 to 40 psi, you're set. Just be sure to put a moisture trap on it so you don't get water spitting out through the air line. Paint... well, if you thin it properly, it'll spray ok then just keep that little cap on the end OFF, cuz unless you're spraying very thin transparents, it'll clog. That's what paint does - dry when exposed to air and an AIR brush well.... that's what I do anyway. THEN you can pull off the dried paint around the needle with fingernails periodically. Also a longer needle point will give a smoother start (like instead ofd BOOM suddenly on, it'll be more gradual). I even removed the spring that keeps the ab trigger UP so I didn't have to push down for air and instead, I rigged a FOOTSWITCH to enable the airflow to the brush. So, NOW, all I need to do is pull back for paint after I press the foot pedal for air and yes, it can alter the PSI at the pedal. :) Food for thought. That Iwata HP-B or similar is good. You don't have to have a custom micron. But for small stuff, they are awesome. well, good luck and thanks. Been enjoying seeing how you make these physical things.
@TruthSurge5 жыл бұрын
@@thedarkpower oh, my compressor is Porter Cable 140 psi so yes, you can use any compressor as long as you can dial up the amount of psi you want and just put a moisture trap on it for sure. Once the tanks fill, you can spray a good while at 20 psi b4 hearing WAAAAAAAAAANK and the tank refilling. Also, lower psi means more clogging for thicker paint and especially white. Transparents spray better than opaque, in general. If you want a really smooth fade, don't use a value (lightness or darkness) that is FAR away from your surface value. Like you did with the black. That's too far and you will see visible grit at the edges unless your paint pigment is highly fine (small) and your AB is good at atomizing. You THINK black is the perfect shadow color but nope. It's prob the worst because you have the least amount of control (it's the farthest you can be from your base color) and it's just not going to work well like that. You just need to mix up a DULLER version of the orig color and thin that a hair more and that should do it. Build up your shadows and fades in SLOW passes. Control in airbrushing is absolutely the name of the game. Just my thoughts! take care.

Fantastic! Loving the retro color scheme. Would have loved to have seen the engineering of the magnets/moving turrets!
@thedarkpower5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah I did try and film it but it was abit awkward as it's all inside. Basic the turrets are sitting inside larger half spheres with some magnet glued on the back. There's then some more magnets on the inside of the turret which moves along the inside as you turn it, keeping it in place.

I sure wish that more stuff like this would come. I mostly just paint mechs digitally, but never had the smarts or skill of hands to actually make my own models. Which makes me sad, but looking at these gives me some hope and insight. I am by no means a too skilled artist, as I am self taught entirely. However, if you wish you could take a look at my gallery, for I see some resemblance in your scratchbuilds and my paintings. I don't mean this as an advertisement as there is not much to advertise, but just something that could be fun to look at. www.deviantart.com/puhumaton/gallery
