Scream 2 (1997)
The way I see it, someone's out to make a sequel. You know, cash in on all the movie murder hoopla. So, it's our job to observe the rules of the sequel. Number one: the body count is always bigger. Number two: the death scenes are always much more elaborate. Carnage candy. And number three...

The subtlest piece of foreshadowing was when they showed the scene of Luke Wilson and Tori Spelling talking about their mothers. You're *supposed* to think it's just another shot at people who make movies profiting off other people's tragedies, but it's also reminding the audience of a key piece of information from the first movie that ties it to the sequel. It's actually kind of genius.

@@Hoosier_Daddy69 I can see that due to the fact it's a in movie scene of the conversation between Billy and Sydney talking about their mothers in the hallway which provided an actual reason for what Billy was doing in the first movie as well as reminding those who remember that scene to where the ending of this movie makes more sense since it's the same mother Billy was referring to who is now the killer which a few fans probably would of forgot about that small plot not thinking it'd factor in to this movie besides Cotton's obsession really.

@@Hoosier_Daddy69it’s probably both. It’s right before the scene where Randy talks about Ms. Voorhees. It’s a good way to remind the audience that Billy’s motive was about Maureen and his father since his mom being a character at all is a twist in this movie. Because other than that, the movie never openly mentions Maureen and her connection to Cotton and Billy’s father.

Fun Fact: Sarah Michelle Gellar signed up to appear in this movie without reading the script because of how much she enjoyed the first one. Also, when Wes Craven showed his daughter a movie he worked on, her reaction was to ask him, "Why do the girls fall down all the time?" So he made Nancy Thompson from "A Nightmare on Elm Street" a fighter and that lived on in Sidney Prescott.

A little Easter egg - in the beginning, prior to the first kill, you hear the killer in the stall talking in a high pitched voice like a child, and you can hear the words "kill" and "Mommy" (among other things) several times. When you factor Mrs. Loomis into the plot, I always took this as a nod to Betsy Palmer's Pamela Voorhees from the original Friday the 13th, who did that throughout the film. Rewatch that scene with the volume turned up, and watch a clip from the original Friday the 13th with Mrs. Voorhees doing that voice off-screen, and you'll see what I mean. It's a clear reference! I prefer the first film over the second, but the second might have the sharpest writing. The commentary, not just about film and sequels, but about crime, criminal celebrity, violence in media, and conservative backlash, is so biting and clever that the script oozes 1990s.

Gale wrote the book based on the events of the first movie. I feel like she probably took some artistic license with what happened. Obviously there weren't witnesses to the opening kill,so she probably made a lot of it up. On a side note the opening sequence has one of my pet peeves of going to the theater. People who get up to go to the bathroom and for snacks after the movie starts is so annoying,it disrupts the others wanting to watch the movie.

Also, Gale likely had decent sources within the police that could feed her info on both the murders and the subsequent investigation for her book. And then she'd probably add a bit herself here and there for the missing parts. The opening scene to Stab is also clearly an exaggeration of the actual event from the first movie - so it's both taking some leeway in terms of facts, while in a meta way commenting on the fact that real events are often polished up or exaggerated upon when adapted for Hollywood entertainment.

Porgy T, I'm guessing they didn't see that because when Gale sees Dewey for the first time Dewey talks about his character in the book "The Woodsboro Murders" which he didn't like the way he was written. The chair through the window, the fire, the other broken window, and after she was stabbed they would know where she was standing because of the blood on the ground and when and how far she made it after. there is no "3rd rule" officially and it was cut on purpose because it may have spoiled the movie. A good 3rd rule for a sequel would be "don't kill your main girl" like so many horror movies did back then and killed the franchise with it. loved the reaction, guys :) the next 3 are a continuous streak of great ones- scream 3 is both super campy and funny and has a great commentary on certain things (don’t wanna spoil it though), scream 4 has aged amazingly and two of the new characters are massive fan favourites for a reason and 5 is a perfect blend of super creepy and super fun

Are you insane? Scream 3 is already a big step down, mostly not really funny, and it was badly written. Kevin Williamson did not provide the script, and they decided against an age rating of 18. Scream 3 was dumb, especially the resolution. Scream 4 was nothing but stupid and not remotely on the level of 1 & 2. It was as bad as Scream 3. And Scream 5: no words. Complete shit, trash, a dumpster fire of mdoern movie making with woke shit, weak characters, badly written, a stupid plot etc. There are only two great Scream movies: 1 & 2. The rest is like Terminator: They don't really exist and should have never been made.

The original killers in this movie were supposed to be Hallie and Derek but the script leaked online and they had to make changes. Mickey was killed early on in the original script that's why he's missing for almost the entire movie.

Fantastic reaction. Loved how much you guys jumped. So excited to see you watch the rest. Scream 3 has a lighter tone due to world events at the time (Columbine shooting), but it's still a fun ride. The beauty of the Scream movies is that there's no real "bad" entry. All of them have something great to offer.
@Guy_Dude

Scream 3 has a lighter tone because Kevin Williamson didn't write it. He didn't leave because of Columbine, he left because the studio wanted to change too many things about his script same as what happened with Scream 4(he wrote half of it but then left). Weinstein and the other people at that company screwed him over and then the Wayans brothers with Scary Movie and many other people.

Have you ever seen kevin bacon’s tv show “the following” apparently the plot of that tv show was the original plot of scream 3. Kevin Williamson couldn’t work on scream 3 so he took his original idea and made a show about it years later .

Wow! Amazing reaction!! You guys were killing me; pun intended! I saw S2 in the movie theater with some friends. The intro of the movie takes place in a theater. That alone completely freaked me out so much that I sat on the edge of my seat. I purposely didn't sit back in my chair out of fear that someone was going to shove a knife through the back of my seat! Something about seeing a movie like this in a theater will mess with you. Anyway, fave part of the reaction? When Samantha yelled “F*CK!”😭😂😭😂 FYI: The original killers in Scream 2 were Sidney’s boyfriend Derek and her roommate Hallie. When this film came out, the internet was really taking off. Well, the script for this film was somehow leaked online which circulated like wildfire. Kevin Williamson had to rewrite the ending where he then came up with 2 new killers; Mickey and Debbie Salt aka Debbie Loomis. If it felt like certain cues in the film were being pointed at Derek and Hallie, it was because they would have been the ones committing the murders Please watch ALL the films. I would love to see y'all do the rest of them! ⭐️🥰🙌🏼

Some fun facts for you. 1. During CiCi (Sarah Michelle Gellar) scene, there are quite a few things happening. She was talking to Selma Blair on the phone before she talked to ghostface and in between. They are best friends and they co-stared in "Cruel Intentions" together and when they were talking on the phone they were talking about Bailey on "Party of Five" which was the tv series that Neve Campbell (Sidney) was doing during all of the three Screams. Also, Jennifer Love Hewitt was also in "Party of Five" as Baileys girlfriend thats who they were talking about regarding a break up. She, of course, also co-stars in IKWYDLS with SMG. She also turned on a vampire movie as a reference to her Buffy. Sarah Michelle Gellar was very busy in 97 she was doing this, I know what you did last summer and 2nd season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. - Neve was also really busy in the late 90's. Same year Scream 96 came out her and Skeet Ulrich (Billy) did "The Craft" together, she was doing her tv series "Party of Five" and also filmed "Wild Things" with Kevin Bacon and Matt Dillon in 97 the same year Scream 2 came out. Courtney Cox (Gale) was doing "friends" the whole time she was doing "Scream, Scream 2 and 3. 2. Originally, it was supposed to be Ms. Loomis hiring Derek and Hallie as the killers and Mickey as the supportive friend to Sidney, but it got leaked while filming, so they changed it to Ms. Loomis and Mickey as the killers. I'm glad it was changed, or it would have been repetitive. 3.) Chief Hartley is David Arquette father. He died in 01. 4.) Matthew Lillard and Neve were dating at the time, and when he was visiting on set, they asked him if he wanted to be an extra in the party scene, lol. He was in the background kinda blurred, but he had blonde hair and could hear him saying hi to Mickey I think it was. He was standing in the distance behind the sorority sisters while they were talking with Sidney, trying to get her to join.

I don't know if has been mentioned, but the Ghostface flying out of the screen and over the heads of the audience is a nod to director William Castle; who had a gimmick called "Emerge-O", where a skeleton would fly out over the audience during one of his movies.

I've had this theory for as long as I can remember regarding the car scene. I believe Mickey was knocked out originally, but when Sid hit the horn, I think it woke him up but pretended to still be knocked out. That way, the girls mostly Sidney were out of the car since he wasn't allowed to actually kill her and for her to be lure to the theater building for Ms. Loomis to act on her revenge. Because he got out WAY too quickly after they did and then did like a syke trick, making them think they are safe just to turn around and kill Hallie to mess with Sid mentally and emotionally even more.

So for in this movie, it's pretty easy of a breakdown on which killer did what. Ms. Loomis was only interested in Gale obviously since she was constantly on her heals lol and Sidney, but she couldn't risk Sidney seeing her till she was ready cause she'd recognize her like she did right away in the final Act. Gale because she literally wrote a book about her son and how she helped Sidney to kill her beloved angel of a son lol. Sidney also for obvious reason cause she did kill her son and her mom was what broke her family. Ms. Loomis tried to kill Dewey as a collateral he was someone that Gale really cared for, like how Billy was someone she cared for. Randy was NEVER the target he didn't play any critical role in her son's death it was meant for Gale, hense, the statement, "Why are you even here Randy?" But HE answered HER phone and talked bad about her son, so she got knife happy like she explained to Sidney at the end. Mickey was the actual copycat he gave the tickets to Phil Steven's and Maureen. Also killed CiCi, obviously Hallie, Derek, and the detectives. He was only allowed to torment Sidney, which he did mentally, but she was to be left for Ms. Loomis to act on her revenge
