Chucky is not into satanism. He practices voodoo magic and spells. He was taught it and learned how to do so. Chucky is also not only a savage but he is also funny too. Also the scene of Andy crying saying Chucky is going to kill him almost always gets me. Felt so bad for him but at the same time, he was also a badass and one of the smartest characters in the horror genre. He almost always does everything himself besides his mother and Detective Mike. It was at this moment that history forever changed for Andy and he'd never be the same afterwards.

I love this series because later movies really play into the absurdity of Chucky's vulgar nature and devolve almost into a horror-comedy hybrid. Even in this movie, his first words to the mom and the scene in the elevator give you a sign of the funny things to come. Child's Play 2 and 3 ramp it up before it becomes a full-on Slasher-comedy in Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky. Curse of Chucky brings it back to its much creepier roots, but the comedy stuff is so much fun.

The Cabbage Patch Kids may have had it beat though. Not only where they a hotly sought after toy and creepy, but they quickly had a legend of some veing haunted or even possessed. I had a step sister who had several of them and admitted to being scared of them at night. So one night after she had been a real pain all day, I went into her room and moved them from the chair she kept them in and lined them up on the foot of her bed. Child's Play is one of those movies whose covers always stuck out in a video store, and I was scared of everything as a kid. But I watched 2 as a kid with my cousins, and despite being super nervous in the beginning I ended up loving it. It was so fun, been a fan since. I seem to remember the first one being one of those banned movies in my country, like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Evil Dead, so it took until DVD until I could get a copy. You need to watch all of them, including the tv show, it's all a continuing story.

My wife and I met Alex Vincent a few years ago at Texas Frightmare Weekend, all grown up of course. We ran into him twice after meeting him at his table, the second time was in the lobby where we talked to him for a few minutes and then the third time was at the after party where he was drunk lol. He's a great guy to talk to. He's commented on what it was like working on the movie, he wasn't actually scared of the Chucky puppet at all, the puppeteers were all there and showed him how Chucky worked, Alex just thought it was a very cool robot, which is what Chucky was really. Lastly, love bloomed from this movie, Catherine Hicks who played Karen, met, fell in love with and married Chucky's designer and builder Kevin Yahger on set and they're still married to this day.

Moral of the story: Remember parents, only buy the expensive original toys at official stores, otherwise you might end up getting a demonic doll posessed by a serial killer.

3:55 I'm sure the writers modelled Chucky and the Good Guy dolls off of the 80's toys Teddy Ruxpin talking bear, My Buddy dolls, the Cabbage Patch dolls.

4:35 i always wondered what Andy was putting on his mother's burnt toast? People claim its butter but butter isnt white. It looks like Cream cheese so its possible he thinks the toast is a bagel. Also there was a deleted scene where Andy walks away from Eddie's hideaway and he falls into a ditch and that saved his life. Also the scene where chucky stabs the door was def taken from Cobra(1986) with a set up quite the same

damn thats so cool you guys are now reacting to this, the best time to get into this franchise now that the show is in full throttle :D this is the best slasher franchise that constantly keeps evolving and reinventing itself, I hope you go through it all that would be a great time :)

After watching this you 100% need to watch Fright Night (1985). The guy who plays the detective in this movie (Chris Sarandon) is also in Fright Night. You'll love it. Also, 20:23 the guy doing Chucky's voice is the same actor who played Charles Lee Ray in the beginning of the film when he was still human. The actor's name is Brad Dourif and he's been in A LOT of movies (One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, Dune, 2007 Halloween, Alien: Ressurection), television (X-Files, Tales from the Crypt, Babylon 5, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, Deadwood, Psych), and continues to do the voice of Chucky to this day! In all the sequel movies and series.

Actually the husband in it was in star trek as well , Christian happy father's dad is a parter or something. The friend. Is very familiar but i cant think of it , her voice is especially familiar. Oh chucky, before and the voice is from lord of the rings ( grima worm tongue) creppy villain. And he was in one flew over the cuckoo's nest with jack Nicholson.

My favorite slasher and horror franchise! Really glad you reacted to this. I'd say that you should react to at least Child's Play 2, which is usually the favorite among the fans and it leans more into slasher in terms of the style and mood. My own personal favorite is this one, the first movie. It's easily the most ''beliavable'' one (...I mean, as beliavable as a living killer doll can be) and also the darkest in the franchise. Much more a thriller than a slasher like the sequels. If you decide to go even further than CP2 you'll see some pretty drastic changes in the films and some of the newer sequels play more with how absurd the whole idea of Chucky is. Films like Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky are just straight up horror comedies where things get *really* bonkers, especially with the last one. After that there's two sequels which go more back to horror again. Chucky also got his own TV series last year and we are in the middle of it's second season at the moment. So there is tons of Chucky stuff (6 sequels and 2 seasons of the tv series) to check out if you decide to go that route! And that's what I obviously hope as a fan but also understand that the character is not everyone's cup of tea. But I'm still happy that you checked this one out anyway. 😊

Fun fact: I've heard that when Brad Dourif, Chucky's voice actor, went to the studio to record his screams for the part where Chucky gets lit on fire, he brought his daughter Fiona, who was a child at the time, with him and she was freaking out and crying because she heard him screaming and thought that something bad was really happening to him and he had to run into the room to calm her down and tell her that he was okay and that he was only pretending.

I had a “My Buddy” as a kid 😅 I think it predates Chucky by a few years.

Chucky is absolutely based on "My Buddy" in my opinion. I don't think the creator ever said so , but the similarity is spot on.

Got to meet Alex Vincent at Fearfest in Raleigh, NC a little over 3 years ago now, he was really cool, walking around with a Chucky doll and just having fun with the whole thing. This is a fun franchise, I enjoy all the movies/show and I think Child's Play 2 is the best because it's the best balance of horror and dark comedy.
