They most likely had Ariana Grande be the first killed as a homage to Scream. They had Drew Barrymore, the biggest star in the cast, killed first by -mask- ghost face and it had never been done before and became a hallmark of the Scream franchise

Me too. I really wanted to rewatch the show again last year and went down a rabbit hole trying to learn about the outfits they used on the show and I found out most of the outfits were from fast fashion outlets and they'd use Chanel pins on those clothing pieces to make them appear designer. How resourceful.

Scream Queens is such a criminally underrated show. I watched this show when it aired and when it got canceled I was so upset. Emma Roberts does a great job as Chanel #1, and I actually tuned into the show to watch her. I was a big fan of her in American Horror Story. I am so happy to hear that season 3 is being worked on right now, it shouldn't of been canceled in the first place.

The only reason I had no issue with what Chanel said was because I have met people who actually talk like this. Not as explicitly because Chanel is a caricature but the constant micro aggressions and just general lack of care for how they talk exists. I have always seen it as a critic of people like that not an endorsement of their behaviour.

When it comes to the offensive things Chanel says, I think it says more about her coming from her privileged bubble background. Her circles were kind of WASP-y, she was never going to be called out for her abject (not even casual) racism. Moreover, she’s obviously from what would be considered nouveau riche, with little to know parental supervision. So a rich, white girl that never was taught social boundaries, only ruthless enterprise, I’m not surprised she has no filter for her awfulness. I wouldn’t condemn the writers as “this is something they want to say and only use Chanel as a mouthpiece”. I think it’s just an honest portrayal of how some silver spoon, heiress, entitled college girls are. Narcissistic, offensive, never been told “no”.

There's a cool horror show with a great ending twist and intresting characters called Dead of Summer. It was only on for one season years ago. But it was summed up and finished so that's okay because the only way it could've continued without ruining the first season would be if it was an anthology series like AHS. The actress behind Beck from You plays the main "final girl" type character.

I thought that was genius, it's a subversion of a really specific part of the "chosen one" trope where the main character is constantly compared to their parents. For me, one of the biggest disappointments about season two was the fact that it would have made the most sense to truly have Zayday truly step up and be the new good girl protagonist, contrasting Chanel’s bad girl protagonist, such as the case in season one with Grace and Chanel. I felt like it SEEMED like they were headed in that direction at first but then it’s all but abandoned and the whole season falls flat over it and other things. Zayday was painfully underdeveloped and should have had more to do, but once again Ryan Murphy is in love with Black and ethic characters being supporting characters rather than main ones, even when sometimes the ethnic characters show such amazing promise (Mercedes and Santana from Glee come to mind). Season one Zayday was primarily the Black best friend and honestly it was a sheer miracle she didn’t die as I had suspected. Season two saw Grace no longer involved and thus Zayday isn’t really BFFs with anyone (I suppose Number 5 came close as the two unexpectedly became friends) and she was just out of focus as the season went on, and once again poorly developed. But again, there were WAY more things wrong with season 2 than just Zayday, but I thought elevating her might have helped matters, even just a little.

SO glad someone else couldn't stand the cafeteria scene where the Chanels beat up the guy hitting on them. I think Grace was supposed to be the killer but they changed the plan mid way through. Initially when they advertised the show they promised at least one member of the main cast would be killed in each episode and only 4 would survive in the end but I think because the audience fell in love with all the Chanel's, Denise, the dean and Chad etc. they decided to save them all. It was also supposed to be an anthology series like American Horror Story but they then decided to keep all the good characters and carry them on into s2 and that doesn't work in a slasher show because it was clear certain people definitely wouldn't die.

I’m glad someone else didn’t like Grace but for me my reason was a bit different. She seemed to have a bit of internalized misogyny herself despite being painted as the “nice girl” but honestly I blame Ryan Murphy more, as he seems to really have a hate boner for popular girls. Like even in Glee he didn’t want to give Quinn a redemption arc but let Rachel get away with a lot. The coffee house scene where she talked about “white girl pumpkin spice” triggered me more than I’m proud to admit since I had an emotionally abusive ex friend who made those types of comments towards me a lot. But no one believes that she was bullying me because she was so good at playing the “wholesome girl next door” and I have always been hyperfem and closed off from people I don’t know well

I May be wrong, but my interpretation of scream queens is that it portrays that an awful, abusive system hurts everyone - even the people who are privilged in this system. The system in KKT really reminded me of patriarchy. The girls who were bullied the most and had no privillage were the pledges. They were treated horribly, but the Chanels - the priviliged Group that were upholding this system were facing unrealistic sick expectations about their weight, looks, status etc. In our society men benefit from the patriarchal standards, even though they are also hurt by them. The expectations of being a "real man", "a provider", "the alpha male" that are supposed to dominate other groups around them. In the Chanels case it was really simillar. They were bullying any other girl around them for not being "skinny enough" / "White enough" or "rich enough" but in reality the system also made sure that the Chanels felt like they are never enough (Chad didnt wanted Chanel #1 even after she starved herself/the Radwells called Chanel "desperate poser" even though she was on the same material status as them/people calling Hester "fat" even though she was a normal weight). Yes, the Chanels were benefiting from the system. Yes, they were upholding all the toxic norms in KKT. But in reality they were treated as bad, as they have been treating the pledges of KKT. It was like a circle of abuse in the story. Idk if anyone agrees. Also, sorry for mistakes. English is not my first language.

I think, as a member of a few of the communities in which the nasty comments might be directed (POC + LGBT), it makes a huge difference knowing Ryan Murphy directed this considering he himself is gay as well as having directed Pose, a show about black ballroom culture with amazing representation and characters. It allowed me to trust that Chanel is the butt of the joke, rather than the humour being found in the validity of her statements. That being said, I do wish occasionally the show made it easier? (idk what word to use) to find humour in her character when she did make these nasty comments.

What made Vivien Leigh's early death in Psycho special was it was the first time the trailer and the movie's first act both built up a big leading actor's role and then faked the audience out with it to have a different protagonist for the rest of the film, Norman Bates. Her fame was used to sell the fakeout, much like Sam Jackson in Deep Blue Sea, for a (relatively) modern equivalent.

Hey, regarding information on Scream Queens season 3, Ryan Murphy teased the return of the series with an instagram post from September 2019, he said "So many people recently have been asking me about the rebooting or continuing SCREAM QUEENS (RIP, taken too soon). Emma, Billie, Lea and I have mused on it, but question: should it be a six-episode limited? A catch-up movie? Who should I bring back? Would love your thoughts. So many questions....". He later confirmed this in a reply to a comment saying that he was working on it. However, he deleted the post and the comment (presumably following the Lea Michele drama). The rights are owned by FOX, so it's not Ryan Murphy's decision to make the final choice. I think the project has fallen through as there has been no news since 2019, but let's hope anyway! ✨💅

Good comparison to Insatiable. When I first heard about insatiable I heard about the backlash and as someone with a history of eating disorders I was like nahhh not the show for me. But! Somehow I did end up watching it and really enjoyed it. The main character is a BAD person and the offensive bits felt like the joke was the cringe, such as The Office or similar shows. It is satirical, not genuine. I didn’t end up watching more than one season of Scream Queens but it definitely has the same vibe.

I find that the difference between scream queens and insatiable is that, often, the horrible things they do and say in insatiable are the actual joke, where as with scream queens, the joke is that these characters are awful and stereotypical, like with Family Guy. As for the "predatory lez", I'm 95% sure it's supposed to be a joke about horrors long running antagonistic relationship with queer people, similarly to how they treat race in the show. The show is a little hamfisted sometimes, but little references like that can go over your head as well. However, I do find the way they handle minorities and social issues leads them to fall flat on their face more than once. I really like this show, but it doesn't seem that they know when they need to take the joke to the point of actual commentary.

I loved this show & I think it's only underrated because people don't realize that it's entirely satirical. The writers purposely made all the characters annoying & insufferable (except for Zayday) to make fun of rich people & other movies. Also I think that Hester was the final killer revealed as a way to make fun of other horror movies for being too obvious.
