RECORD STORE DAY 2024
Screaming Trees-Weird Things Happening (Ellensburg Demos 1986-1988)
Ellensburg, Washington is known for the world’s 3rd largest three-day rodeo, 90’s NFL legends Brian Habib and Drew Bledsoe and as the hometown of seminal Northwest band Screaming Trees. In the late 80’s, Ellensburg residents were often confronted with the strangely primitive sounds of the band emanating from their headquarters in the back room of the Conner family’s Main Street store, New World Video. Here was the scene of creation of songs from the band’s early Velvetone and SST albums. During this prolific time, much of the band’s music never made it beyond their own ears but was fortunately captured on Gary Lee Conner’s 4 track cassette recorder. Those cassettes have survived, intact, down to this day and have now made their way to this recording. So now, transport yourself back to New World Video, in late 80’s Ellensburg, and hear the weird things happening
Limited edition of 4000 copies, pressed on opaque maroon vinyl. Make sure your favorite participating RSD store orders one for you for the big day on April 20th, and follow @vinyl_voice_editions on Instagram for more info!

Mark said he was embarrassed by these early Trees recordings. Personally, I think they're magical. He was a great 60's singer.

He only started saying that when the music blog hipsters did. Those guys worshipped him, so he knew how to play to them..

Gary Lee, Thank you Sir 🙏 You are the man !! 😎 and if I may say I would like to extend my condolences for your brother and Mark. I absolutely loved the story Mark told I his book about the first time he saw your brother as a little little kid laying in a kiddie pool looking like he was in heaven and then many years later on the Neil Young tour he was hammered and fell into a kiddie pool and he was laying there with a huge smile on his face and Mark said he looked just like he did when he first saw him all those years before .

Brother G Thank YOU. My local record shop in NY didn't have this album however I will track it down of discogs. But maybe I should wait until one turns up in the bins?? I like the records shop to know Tree's stock moves. Not too many bands left that make me go out of my way to find whatever they release. I especially love early stuff.

Can you upload each song on separate videos because I can't find these songs on YT. They sound like these are mostly influenced by neo-60s psych garage rock which a lot of bands in the early 80's were doing
