Cool setup! I use the same GG fusion system, but with a WB discharge base. I find the high solid acrylics have the same heavy feel as plastisol. Discharge feels like nothing. I've only got two FN inks, white and black. The cleanup is what made me go water based.
@startupscreenprinting Жыл бұрын
Yeah plastisol cleanup is no fun! And getting that crap out of your clothing is impossible haha

@@startupscreenprinting If you don't have one yet I definitely recommend a goof gun. (spot remover) I've used it for so many things I didn't think was possible. It even took dried glue off a couple of new screens I bought.

Great setup! Two questions for you. What water based ink brands would you recommend starting out with? Also,what method do use to cure your water based prints? I know you touched on it briefly in the video, but can you maybe do a video in the future to show your method?

I love the green galaxy line of inks from Ryonet. I have a flash and I add 1.5% warp drive to the ink before I print. I’ll definitely do videos to explain and show my process! Thanks for the questions!

This was great! Thanks for showing us your shop. Newbie printer here as and love seeing a smaller shop out of the home. I only have a 4/1 Riley 250 out of my garage and would love your press someday. Curious about the waterbase printing....why only waterbase and what kind of shirts do you print, or should I say what kind of clientele? I would LOVE to only use waterbase simply for the chemical aspect and pipes for my house. New subscriber--keep it up! :)
@startupscreenprinting Жыл бұрын
Thanks Heather! I’ve just never been a fan of how plastisol feels on a nice triblend shirt. Always felt like it was ruining it. So I went water based since it soaks into the fibers and leaves a soft breathable print. Plus like you said I didn’t want the chemicals that are required with plastisol. As far as client types, really it’s a wide range. I print for schools, churches, non profits, restaurants and coffee shops, sports teams, local trades like a painting company, and some retail brands. So it’s pretty much every kind of customer :) thanks for subscribing! Let me know if you have more questions about anything!
@heatherjennings145 Жыл бұрын
@@startupscreenprinting Okay, this is great to hear! I feel like the client base I want to be after is like you so it gives me hope to get into water based. I hope you really show us on your channel how to print with waterbase and all the ins and outs. I would LOVE this! It would give me the confidence to try it. I'm so nervous because everyone says it dries in the screen so fast. Also, curious as to your favorite shirts. Thanks again for the personable channel--excited for more content! :)

Thanks! You can definitely do water base! Don’t listen to the naysayers, it’s easier than you think. I’ll definitely show all about printing with it! My fav shirt is the bella canvas 3413 triblend and it’s what 75-80% of my customers order. 😎

@@startupscreenprinting Thanks for the link. I'm looking for something to pull some light smoke or vapours from using my flash and conveyor in my basement shop; is this why you use it? or mainly to keep dust down? One more question, does it pull the smell of any ink cleaners out of the air?
@startupscreenprinting Жыл бұрын
@@TerritorialMech I use it for dust and lint. I'm not sure how well it would work for smoke/vapor but you could test for sure. I don't have a lot of unpleasant smells from cleaners as I don't have to use harsh cleaners for water based ink.

have you ever had any issues using comet white water based ink? i just purchased a quart and when I received it, it was so thick and very hard to use, it barely pushed through the screen (156 20x24). I had to add a bunch of water into the quart just to be able to use it.

@@startupscreenprinting I’m working on setting up a shop in my garage. Since I can’t make changes like yourself (rental) would you recommend draining water into a bucket from the washout booth? And then pouring that down the drain? Or how would you go about that??

If you’re printing plastisol I definitely wouldn’t pour it down the drain. If you can get a filtration system that’s best to run it through that first and then down a drain.
