my biggest complaint with a lot of plastic screen protectors, and the glass ones as well, is the black bezel around them. Why? Just why? The chance of getting an entirely perfect install is very low, there's usually a slight armount of misalignment and that's just enough for that black bezel to start covering pixels.

I‘ve always used glass screen protectors on all my phones but I got tired of replacing them constantly since I’m clumsy with my phone. Decided to go with the Mous Hybrid glass when I picked my iPhone 14 up 7 months ago and it’s still going strong. The most impressive thing you’ll notice when installing it is how thin it is, you won’t even notice it’s there thickness wise when it’s installed. It definitely attracts scratches a little easier than glass screen protectors but the coating on it is the best I’ve ever felt. The coating has worn down a lot since installing but it’s still better than any other plastic screen protector. I have a feeling the only reason I’m gonna take this screen protector off is because of the coating wearing down or the scratches on it, not because it cracked. They also go on sale a lot on Amazon so I’m gonna pick up some more.

Hey mate - given that that Ceramic Shield glass on the iPhone is very impact resistant, then would it make sense to apply a thin and light gel/plastic protector on top? Surely no need for a Flolab level protector?

I have found the new RhinoShield 3D impact to be incredibly fragile compared to the old versions. I purchased a matte version last year and a small drop on the edge tore the screen protector and sliced it 5mm into the screen area. I have never had RhinoShield split open like this and I've used them since the year after they launched the company. I thought oh, ok, bad luck. So I ordered another one, transparent this time (matte turns out not to be my jam) and this time it didn't last a month before a car door bumped the edge of the screen and it split open like a banana again. Wish it wasn't so, they have been my go-to brand for almost a decade, but recent experience has me wondering if their is a design or chemistry problem with the new protectors.

Great content. Question. Why would anyone carry their phone in the same pocket as their keys? Not smart. Put the phone in your back pocket. Never scratched my phone this way. I take a film screen protector over glass any day. Especially the Whitestone dome film screen protector. You use the uv light after putting it on it hardens like glass. And it fits all my cases, like Supcase unicorn beetle pro or I-Blason Armorbox or poetic spartan or otterbox defender pro. Using these cases with glass, the glass would always lift when changing from case to case.

What I never understood is why we care about hardness or impact? I thought the goal was to reduce the force enough as to not damage the screen. At $9 for a 3 pack, just keep on replacing them? What am I missing?

There was a scientific study, I can't refind it. What can break glass in small drops is the accumulated scratches and chips on the screen. The forces running through the glass, especially running parallel to a good scratch as I poorly recall, is especially problematic. Think of someone too heavy walking on lake ice, producing fracture cracks in the ice. You step on, see the ice give, surface bowing a little running to the cracks 10 feet away. That force meets the cracked area, trying to spread the load, and suddenly, it races to you, a large open crack, you go in, the ice you thought was solid enough. Every had a small windshield chip that has very small thread cracks around the chip? 90-degree F summer heat, you go into a store, come out temperature 140 F in car. Windshield now as a huge running crack from the chip? That energy took advantage of the weaknesses in what should have been a fairly uniform surface. Would the windshield have cracked with just a deep bullseye chip. No, not in my experience.

I actually like my Mous hybrid glass, had it on a few years now. It’s more prone to scratches, but doesn’t shatter as easily as glass. But the main thing I like about it is how thin it is. The only blemish is the edges are a little scratchy where glass can be nice and smooth.

@markraciborski42896 күн бұрын
What about comparing hydrogel, TPU, and EPU screen protectors? I find these materials much easier to install than glass protectors, particularly because of the 50 percent split in the back protector that curl rolls off during installation. To install hydrogel EPU, you simply temporarily attach the bottom half, install the top 50 percent, and then finish with the bottom 50 percent. I don't buy PET screen protectors. We have Android phones, and Ringke offers an EPU screen protector that comes with two protectors in a pack. We have had no issues with bio-fingerprint recognition through the screen. In fact, enabling the option in the Android setup to enhance fingerprint recognition with a glass protector has caused problems when using plastic instead. It's important to note that EPU and TPU have different properties. With plastic hydrogel, EPU small bubbles missed will disappear in 24 hours, unlike glass. Oh, if you have a phone that has screen fingerprint recognition, rescan your fingerprint after a screen protector is installed.

I don't care about scratches on the protector, I only care that my phone doesn't crack or scratch. So does (cheap) plastic offer better or worse protection than (cheap) glass ones?? Honestly the argument that you could keep using a cracked glass screen protector with a pieceo of tape over, but not a plastic one that starts peeling of on the edge - is quite silly to me 😅Surely you'd replace it either way. And why are we only starting at $40? I'm not paying $40 for a piece of plastic or glass lol
