Consider, for example, the difference between Obi-Wan Kenobi's blue, single-bladed lightsaber as seen in A New Hope (which conveys that he is a gentleman knight from a more elegant time) and Darth Maul's red double-bladed lightsaber from The Phantom Menace (which is the weapon of a ferocious and incredibly agile animal who will stop at nothing to draw blood). Neither of these weapons is practical in any real sense of the word, because a laser sword that can effortlessly cut through anything can never be practical: you'd dismember yourself the first time you accidentally tapped yourself with it. But when Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Maul fight at the end of The Phantom Menace, it is the fact that they are fighting with these swords in particular that tells us everything we need to know about what is actually at stake: the end of a more civilized and enlightened time, and the beginning of an age of bloodshed, cruelty, and strife. So when judging the new lightsaber in The Force Awakens trailer, the first thing we should be judging it by is what it tells us about its owner. Which is a lot.

In the Star Wars movies there are only ever two Sith Lords: a master and an apprentice. So when Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader die at the end of Return of the Jedi, that's it. The Sith are extinct. Yet here's maybe Adam Driver, wielding a Sith lightsaber, around 30 years after the end of the Sith Order. Where did he get it?
@ther3aper561
@ther3aper561 9 жыл бұрын
Did he find it? It's possible, but every clue in the trailer suggests that he made it. Notice how the lightsaber sputters, crackles, and flickers as the character turns it on. As io9 notes, that's a sign of shoddy workmanship. But don't just look at it, listen to it. The sound of a lightsaber turning on is always smooth around the edges, but this lightsaber sounds dirty, and full of static. These are all design choices, consciously made to tell us, the viewers, something about what we're seeing.
@ther3aper561
@ther3aper561 9 жыл бұрын
Listen to the trailer's narration. "There has been an awakening. Have you felt it? The dark side." Combined with everything else, that says everything you need to know: The Force Awakens is about the rebirth of the Sith after their destruction. The character in the trailer is formative to that. And without a master to guide him, he's rebuilding the Sith order from scratch, which includes figuring out how to create a lightsaber for himself, warts and all. So if the anonymous villain created this lightsaber himself, why did he design it with a crossguard at all? Simple: he knows he's vulnerable to getting his hands cut off, because he's not skilled. He has no training. If a regular lightsaber is a katana, this is a claymore: a brutal and unsophisticated weapon favored by a vicious, untrained fighter who is relying upon brute strength to chop his opponents to pieces.
@ther3aper561
@ther3aper561 9 жыл бұрын
The crossguard says so much about the character wielding it. After all of the silly lightsaber ballet of the prequels, it opens up a whole new dynamic, and immediately differentiates the character in the trailer from every Star Wars baddie who has come before him. This isn't the lightsaber of a trained warrior in his prime, like in the prequels, or a retired Jedi who hasn't fought in 30 years, like in Episodes IV through VI. This is the lightsaber of a bloodthirsty young berserker.
@ther3aper561
@ther3aper561 9 жыл бұрын
Which is why, from a cinematic perspective, the lightsaber crossguard we're seeing in The Force Awakens trailer is such incredible design. It's not just visually arresting. It's efficient. We know what we're seeing immediately, no explanation needed. And not only that, it illuminates a character's personality, and fighting style with just the flip of a switch. It helps tell a story. And when it comes to the language of cinema, that's the only design problem worth solving.

FIGHT 7: Best actor to join a superhero franchise? Hands down. Heath Ledger. When they announced he would play The Joker, everyone was like "you mean the gay guy from that Brokeback Mountain movie?! Really?" But then when everyone saw The Dark Knight his performance BLEW EVERYONE away. And unlike any other actor Health actually won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for that role; a first for a superhero film.
@FJAR1635
@FJAR1635 9 жыл бұрын
Although you're absolutely right, the debate was about an actor joining a franchise as in being in more than one movie. Now, I understand that's not fair since Ledger died, but he was only in one film as opposed to the many the debated actors were in.

I said the exact same thing, I can't believe they didn't even mention him. The Oscars have historically pushed superhero movies and roles away but Heath Ledger's performance was simply so good that even the Oscars had to give him his due. This is the only superhero movie I know of that has the villain and the VILLAIN ALONE on the cover (at least on the Blu-Ray copy he is). If you ask me, this is just as much a movie about the Joker as it is a movie about Batman because let's face it, the Joker is the main character. The Dark Knight is a movie about the Joker's schemes, Joker's love for chaos, his hypocrisy about "schemers", Joker's unpredictability, his pure love for madness and how "all it needs is a little push". Heath Ledger captured everything we love about the Joker and pulled off what I consider to be one of the greatest performances in the history of film.
@kxmode
@kxmode 9 жыл бұрын
FJAR1635 Actually if you read the question it's simply asking who is the best actor to JOIN a "superhero franchise" meaning the franchise part of the question means more than one film or a series of existing films... not an actor who starred in more than one superhero film. So I go back to my original choice. Health Ledger is the best actor to join a superhero franchise.
@samanthabayley320
@samanthabayley320 9 жыл бұрын
When Ledger first won the Oscar for that role I questioned whether his death had helped to contribute to that, after watching that movie again and again I can't deny that he deserved it 100%. People are still talking about that performance years later, how many other Oscar winning performances are still being talked about?

To all the people hating on the new lightsaber and saying that it would be "really easy to dismember yourself with it," just sit back and think about that for a second. You're probably thinking of how he'd cut off his arm or head after the first twirl of the blade, but you're wrong. The lightsaber from the trailer seems like it's modeled after a greatsword, and when was the last time you saw someone FUCKING TWIRL A GREATSWORD the way they twirl a one handed lightsaber?! Exactly! They don't! Swords that big are used for power; you bring it up, and then down, really fast. Or side to side. Point is, you'd have to be a FUCKING IDIOT to dismember yourself with something so simple, and I doubt that a trained sith would be. Especially since he's probably trained with a vibrosword of the same design at one point or another, to get the feel of what his lightsaber would be like.

Well, the problem is, with a usual greatsword, what makes it work is the weight, how heavier it is than single-handed longswords. With a lighsaber, i'm not sure how much that would really make a difference. I don't mind the hilt, just the idea of a greatsword lightsaber. I mean you might get better reach, but then you would get much less flexibility in tight spaces than a regular one.
@armsdragon05
@armsdragon05 9 жыл бұрын
Hrishi Telcontar I'll hand it to you; that's probably the best argument I've heard against this new lightsaber so far. To counter it, I'll probably say that instead of the weight, this lightsaber would probably be used by beings with a larger amount of strength to make up for the light weight.
@lsevent
@lsevent 9 жыл бұрын
The cross guard wouldn't block any attack that got close to the hilt and there is far more hilt than usual with regard to hand position. The design of it makes it far easier for an opponent to destroy the hilt, rendering it useless. It is an incredibly dumb design.

The Storm Troopers aren't clones, The Clone troopers are clones but later on a lot of clones enlisted to join as Storm troopers under the Empire, but they stopped cloning around the time the Republic fell. Clone Troopers were just an idea and it works better than expected, but they went with conventional enlistment after the Empire grew and needed more soldier that were less militaristic.

How the hell is The Wolverine worse than Origins? The Wolverine is a very good movie (apart from having the wrong person in the silver samurai armor) and the fact that it does not tie in to the rest of the series much is only a good thing. It gives you a kickass Wolverine movie, that all it needed to do. Not tieing into something does not make something bad, Guardians of the Galaxy only ties into the Marvel Universe (up to this point in time) through Thanos and the Infinity Gems yet it is still amazing. Having a self contained story that has small tie ins, as long as its good, should allow it to stand on its own. And saving its worse than Origins is just insane.

I feel like a lot of people don't actually realize the use for the "Cross guard" on Kylo Ren's lightsaber, the story behind it is that Kylo Ren is a self taught Sith, technically not even belonging to the Order of the Sith. And being self taught, he didn't have an instructor in building his lightsaber. So the "Cross Guards" aren't even cross guards at all, as a matter of fact they are vents coming out of the lightsaber. And in the argument of the black stormtrooper, theoretically there could have been thousands of them in the ranks of the Empire but we'll never know because they have their helmets on. But my basis on this is that Clone Troopers and Storm Troopers are two entirely different armies, Clones have a very short life span (As they were bred for war there was no use for them to have long lives) and there is no way they could have survived all the way from Revenge of the Sith to The New Hope, so the Empire set up training/recruiting camps all across the galaxy and these are were the Storm Troopers were trained. This is supported by the Disney show Star Wars Rebels where in one of the episodes the main antagonist is under cover in one of these training camps. All though I'm not sure if the show is 100% cannon but it gives at least a little bit of evidence to support my case.

I had to comment on the best movie death. Now while I agree that the terminator was pretty cool, but the movie death that always gets to me is John Coffey in The Green Mile. The man put to death for a crime he didn't commit, and the officers who execute the order know this and are even debating about letting him go, but John says no because his gifts not only allow him to heal but he can feel other's pain... then oh my god when they finally get him in the chair I'm balling! A lot of people get this wrong, 90% of the stormtroopers are now just regular humans who are recruited because the emperor saw a big flaw with clones, easily corruptible by the enemy, perfect example is the unofficial komino rebellion where some of them cloned anti-empire clones but were easily crushed, some are still stormtroopers but a lot have died between 3 and 4 and even more so in episode 4 when the death star blew up

STORMTROOPERS ARE NOT CLONES!!! After the events of Order 66, the Kamanoains (long-necked Cloners from AOTC) created a rebel clone army to fight the Empire. The 501st unit was sent to defeat them and destroy the remaining Jango Fett DNA so they could never clone again. The empire disbanded clones and relied on recruitment after that. This is why there is a significant difference in skill between the Clones and Stormtroopers! (Explained in the Star Wars Battlefront 2 campaign)

The greatest movie death is the most surprising movie death ever in cinematic history, which is Samuel L. Jackson in Deep Blue Sea. So when has logic or practicality factored into the superhuman fighting style of Force wielders? You ever notice they're the ONLY ones who wield those weapons? Because their training and Force abilities give them the grace and agility to wield them properly. You seriously think a guy *who can deflect a laser bolt out of midair* is going to hurt himself swinging his sword? Diehard fans are ridiculously stupid, and the fact we even have people debating this shows that they bypass the established rules of whatever universe they're mad about just to find something to be mad about *when all you need to do is step back and consider that the argument is already resolved*. There are light-whips and saber staffs and dual-bladed lightsabers, and you are seriously going to bitch about a fucking crossguard? That's just petty.

Sure, I don't think he's going to actually hurt himself swinging it, BUT - their presence on the side of his sword means he's going to have less freedom of movement. In avoiding hurting himself - however easily he can manage that with the Force and his training - he's going to have to keep those cross-guards away from himself, and as such has a reduced angle of freedom to move his blade, disadvantaging himself against his opponents. Arguably this is in exchange for the ability to catch a sliding enemy blade, but then... The actual blade emitters and shrouds for these cross-guard sabre pieces are not flush with the handle, so the thing a sliding enemy blade is going to hit is... The metal emitter of that crossguard. Unless they're going to make an excuse and claim it's made out of Mandalorian Iron, then any enemy blade is going to chop off those cross-guards uselessly anyway - and if they ARE made out of mandalorian iron, then... Why the hell do you even NEED lightsabre blade there, when you could just have a small mando iron cross-guard? If you have the sabre-resistant piece there already, those lightsabre cross-guard pieces are completely superfluous and only function to limit the angle in which the user can safely move their sabre in proximity to their own body, for no added benefit.
@vicioushero

Theta_Sigma The saber blade doesn't start at the end of the hilt, but at the crystal inside. So yes if it's not Mandolorian Iron the it would cut into the hilt but would still be stopped by the saber blade housed inside.
@FrigidFriar
@FrigidFriar 9 жыл бұрын
vicioushero Look at the actual length of the hilt. Given that the crystal for the main blade must be in the centre of the handle, the cross-blades clearly do not reach all the way to the centre inside as their emitters and focusing components must take up space either side of the main hilt components. Any blade sliding down the lightsabre would hit the most internal part, slashing straight through the cross-guard's own crystal. And even if this wasn't the case, it still doubly highlights my point: it'd still be more effective simply to have a small crossguard made entirely of Mandalorian Iron, which doesn't have the liability described above, takes up less space and doesn't force the user to reduce their range of safe movements with their own blade.

If we are talking Disney Marvel right now . . . Ant Man will start the trend, Cap 3 will fall flat a bit and leave people feeling weary of the genre ( kind of like the hate for Iron Man 3). The movies will start feeling to much either like they aren't connected as well (Iron Man 3 to Avengers 2) or like they are sequelbait (Iron Man 2 to Avengers 1).

DaylightDigital As much as it pains me to say it, I don't think Ant-Man is gonna be very good. Skepticism started as soon as Edgar Wright left the project. The director, Peyton Reed, has done nothing but comedies, and they aren't nearly as good as Wright's. Rudd and Douglass are good, but they can't do much with bad writing and direction. Ant-Man was never going to be amazing, especially not this late in the game, but I'm thinking it's not gonna be very good. Same with Dr. Strange; Cumberbatch is a capable actor, but the director is known for horror, and the THREE credited writers have unimpressive resumes. Civil War, Black Panther, etc, all look safe for now though.

I think that the reason that he lightsaber is jagged is because it's using an Unstable Crystal. In Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, there are multiple types of crystal (blue, purple, red, green, yellow, gold, and even BLACK) and all of them (apart from the black) come in three variations: Normal, Compressed, and UNSTABLE. Normal is self-explanatory, compressed are just more powerful, and unstable are the most powerful, but, as the name suggests, are unstable, and therefore, the most dangerous.

Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight was the best actor ever put in a franchise . He wasn't in multiple movies because of his untimely death, he didn't play himself like Robert Downey Jr. And Hugh Jackman's great as The Wolverene, but Heath became the Joker . He was the most talented actor who was ever in a early (dark) superhero movie. That's why we call the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy "The Dark Knight" trilogy .

Best actor to join a superhero franchise - heath ledger. The movie is known more for the joker. He made the movie so much better than it is. He was the first actor to be nominated and win an oscar for a comic book role. IMDB - batman begins - 8.3 the dark knight - 9.0 the dark knight rises - 8.5 iron man - 7.3 the wolverine - 6.7 rotten tomatoes - batman begins - 7.7 the dark knight - 8.6 the dark knight rises - 8.0 iron man - 7.7 the wolverine - 6.3 This proves that no one was expecting anything from batman begins which they didn't need to but when the dark knight came out and heath ledger improved the status of the dark knight trilogy. Heath ledger improved it so much that when everyone went to see the dark knight rises they were expecting a good movie but it was slightly like batman begins. So this improves that Heath ledger improved the dark knight franchise.

By the way, something for the next one: I was rewatching Back to the Future II the other day and I thought the end of that movie's just amazing. Like they're setting it almost from the beginning, then you're in the middle of an action sequence, everything goes ok and then the lightning, Marty thinks he's lost Doc forever, the Western Union guy that looks like a Gestapo agent, that tension, then a perfect connection to the first one... I think they really gave it a perfect ending although it doesn't really end anything and it's more like a cliffhanger, but still to me it's one of the best moments of the trilogy. So my question would be "What's the best movie ending of all time?".

I want to see lightsaber boomerangs, scythes, knives, etc. Why not? The best movie death by any measure was Boromir (Sean Bean) in LoTR The Fellowship of The Ring. Sean get shots several times and out of desperation and honour barely manages to continue the battle in the hopes of simply buying Merry and Pippin time to be saved. Keep in mind how gripping his passing actually is and it's very important to note that Boromir's fight and death were not written in the book orginially, he's simply found riddled with arrows surrounded by slaughtered urukai. They decided he would get a death on screen and it's one of the best scenes in all three movies and my pick for greastest movie death.

gurujot951 It's not the coolest no, but it is the most tragic and meaningful. It symbolizes the breaking of the Fellowship and the struggle that Boromir faced. He fought hard as anyone ever before to just buy them minutes, mere hope that Aragorn and the others would arrive in time, He did it without regard to his safety sacrificing himself in an attempt to save Merry and Pippin, and when he fails you think he has completely lost and it was all for naught, but then Aragorn kills the archer uruk hai and absolves him of what he tried with Frodo, promising that he would not let Frodo fail no matter what it took, It's the best I can think of, Tarantinos as just cool stylized and gory as hell. They don't have the emotion tied to them at all so they couldn't be.

On the best movie death: when rose and jake found that wood fragment first they tried to go on it BOTH. and they failed - the door started to sink. it doesnt depent on square of that door. it depends on mass + mass of ppl on it and how it compensates archimedes' force. If mass is too high - not a variant for both. another question is why Jack didnt search for another piece of wood around to save himself too?

We're talking about a completely weightless blade. EVERYTHING you do carries the risk of dismemberment, the balance is completely off. Even the most coordinated guy on Earth would PROBABLY dismember himself with even a traditional lightsaber. The fact is, though, we haven't seen anyone dismember themselves just yet, because lightsabers aren't wielded by average guys, they're used by space-wizards with minor precognitive abilities. In the OT, Luke never even had any formal lightsaber training, he just learned to use the Force, and he was still able to hold his own against Vader. They know what they're doing!

Kyle Reese also briefly appears as a 5 year old kid in The Sarah Connor Chronicles, which coincidentally stars another Game of Thrones Queen as Sarah. It can definitely be part of the continuity, but I'm not sure that it is. The thing is that there is a scene in Salvation in which John listens to recordings of her mother that implicitly state that it is not in the same timeline as the first three movies (you have to be paying attention). Hence, there had to be another changing of the timeline in between 3 and 4 that we never got to see. SCC (and possible T5) might be part of that

He didn't have much competition this week. I don't know much about Alison Haislip, but she seems like an idiot from this episode of Movie Fights. Her picks were purely based on personal preference without any type of actual solid, logical reasoning. And she contradicted herself throughout the show. It seemed like Kassem was only there for comedic effect for the majority of the show. He didn't take his arguments too seriously, except on a select few (completely agreed with him about Robert Downey, Jr. in Round 7).

I can't believe nobody said anything about the part where the storm troopers are getting ready to get out of the ship. That's the only thing I wasn't expecting in the trailer and it gave it such tension... It's just like 2 seconds and it's my favourite part. Everything else's cool and I can't wait to see it, but I was expecting sand, robots, ships, lightsabers, the milenium falcon, the music... I wasn't expecting that tense moment with the troopers.

Round 7: Heath Ledger. He turned The Joker from that visually happy and ecstatically crazy villain into the most dark and disturbing superhero villain of all time. Not only that, but he technically died for that role. Through his medication mixup to help him get through the after-effects of truly becoming his role as The Joker, he died of a deadly mixture (as I am to believe). So Ledger, I say, was definitely the BEST thing to happen to a superhero movie franchise (in terms of actors). And I can argue that The Dark Knight is the greatest movie of all time. I mean, an entire action car chase scene with no music - only sound effects, and one main soundtrack used through the entire movie but still gets your blood pumping right up to the last minute, all topped off with Heath Ledger's brilliantly superb portrayal of Joker!? Heath Ledger was definitely the best actor to join a superhero franchise.

You guys are insane. The terminator trailer was fucking terrible. old arnold is good? what the hell are you talking about? old arnold delivering the same "ill be back" line? abosolutely terrible it looks incredibly low budget. even the scars on john conner's face look homemade, overdone, and cheesy. they are stealing entire scenes from the other movies. talk about lazy. and YES salvation was good. a solid 6.5 out of 10 movie.
@PaddyCollector
@PaddyCollector 9 жыл бұрын
1. I understand how it makes sense to the story but arnold is almost 70 years old. He hasn't been in a decent movie for nearly 20 years. He needs to just go away. Just look at his imdb page and see when the last decent he made was. I mean the 6th day was in 2000 for crying out loud. 2. saying cheesy lines makes a movie cheesy. who wants a cheesy terminator movie? it might as well be made by the same people who do those scary movie movies and meet the spartans. 3. post production will not change makeup on a guy's face.

salvation was boring. this movie looks very good. and the story sounds realistic. why would they stop sending terminators back?. its cool. they sent a terminator back far enough that it make sense too. arnolds never been an amazing actor. in terms of acting skill, hes always kinda been a joke. but he can play the terminator. this is a real terminator movie. i dont see alot of movies in theater. but im seeing this one

one more thing though. its not possible for the past to change the way it did in this. the changes after you send someone back have to be initiated by them and not before they get there. or he would have known about it before he went back. because when you change the past it instantly changes the future. take that days of future past. that movie the second wolverine wasn't affecting anything else. is the moment the future should have changed

PaddyCollector Your point? He was out of the movie buisness for a long time. And Terminator 3 was a good movie. If you dont like that its either not your thing(which is ok) or you are a hater. And Last Stand was ok, Expendables 2 entertaining. Lives he of his fame and our nostalic memories in these movies? Sure. But he earned that. Never got the Arnie hate after 2000. Yes, he isnt the Arnie of your youth. Get over it and enjoy good rides. I wasnt hyped(for an Terminator movie with Arnie in it) for the new one. But the trailer got me excited. Is he old. Yes. But Clint Eastwood and many others were and are cool with that "old guy" charisma. Arnie is too.

Disney owns Marvel, right? I've noticed that, except for the Terminator talk, this was all about Disney properties. Like, when talking about comic book movies, it's all Marvel. But when you look at it, what has DC done? There was the Dark Knight trilogy. Aaaand... that's it. The big talk is Star Wars and Marvel. Disney is now like the Google of Hollywood: competition exists, but we just don't care. I'm not thrilled at all about a Justice League film because DC hasn't given us anything to boost our excitement.

A lot of guys who study and practice fencing have been commenting that while the cross guard lightsaber is not perfect, it is actually practical. Sure, the little side things that project the cross guard could be sliced off, but as long as the sword keeps moving, its going to be very hard to slide a light saber down the side of another one. It does however give you some protection, while opening up a bunch of different strikes.

You know, I thought that the new saber was pretty cool. I began to think about the hilt, mainly, and I think I may have come up with a conclusion: What if those beams coming from the hilt are just excess energy coming from the main beam, and it's exiting through ports on the side of the handle? I mean, they don't come out at the same instant the main beam is released, so I feel like it could be excess energy. I could be wrong, and it's just a theory I came up with that I felt was worth mentioning. Whatever route they're taking with this new lightsaber, I have high hopes that it'll be awesome.
@rockerman6459
@rockerman6459 9 жыл бұрын
Okay, so I did just a tad bit of digging, and it would seem that I was wrong. Imagine that? :P Sorry everyone. It would so happen that those really are beams, and they are coming from emitters on the side of the handle. One before it was used by a certain Jedi Master named Roblio Darté during the Clone Wars. He survived Order 66, but Vader killed him during the Conclave on Kessel. His saber was much like the one talked about in this video, which is owned by a man named Kylo Ren. Not much is known about Kylo at this very moment, only that he is male and carries a red-beamed saber. The difference between the two sabers was that Roblio's saber had only two blades, the second blade dagger sized, and it was stationed at a forty-five degree angle. Here's the article I checked out for this info: starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Crossguard_lightsaber

Hoping anybody will read this. Here is what I thing of the Star Wars VII The Force Awakens Trailer. It begins with what I don't thing is a clone, it is just reusing the incredible technique Luke and Solo used, so no problem with that. Then we see a new droid we had never seen. COOL, maybe the new R2D2 (trying to take his place)? The we see clones (real ones) getting ready for BATTLE, they are part of the empire, thet meaning they are being controled by a Sith maybe. Then we get to the lightsaber part, it is cool, we see a dark character in a dark place, walking darkly with dark music and a dark voice saying "THE DARK SIDE", IT IS EVIL! W e may love (hate) this character as much as we did Darth Vader. He has a cool weapon that we can analyse as TheR3aper5 said, it teaches us of what may or is going to happen. To end with a shot of THE MILENIUM FALCON with our favourite soundtrack playing. You get goose bumps (literally) and we can especulate on who is riding it and if we are going to see Solo take the Falcon one more, maybe last, time. The very best of the trailer is just this: It maid me very excited to see it VERY! I havce seen the original saga and love them but have never got goose bumps or even get surprised (because I saw it like 13 years in my life so I knew Darth Vader was Lukes father and all) and I think this one is going to be the STAR WARS of my generation that wil get me excited, goose bumped, surprised, amazed, nerdy and in love. GREAT TRAILER, HOPE IT TO BE A GREAT MOVIE!

"No one looks like they've aged 10 years" There is literally a meme dedicated to showing how people's looks don't change for like 40 years between their 20's and 60's. So Kitty Pride not looking different between X3 and DoFP isn't really a problem. Patrick Stewart practically hasn't changed since he played Piccard on ST:TNG. That's like 25 years. It's been 14 years since the first X-Men film and Ian McKellan looks the same. 10 years is nothing.

As far as the lightsaber goes, the guard could easily work. There are numerous examples of materials that can stop a lighsaber blade, and a few that can actually SHUT DOWN a lightsaber for full minutes. specifically the cortosis metal. The extra blades could be used to implement absolutely lethal pommel strikes. However, I am inclined to agree that it is a homemade lightsaber. Sith are famous for improvised lightsabers. For instance, Darth Maul's saber is not technically a double bladed lightsaber, as both blades function independently. He created said saber when sent to a planet to assassinate a jedi. He failed the first three times and escaped with his life. The fourth time he added a blade which he activated later, surprising and killing the jedi. Also, that stormtrooper COULD be black. It only makes sense that after kamino stopped producing clones that the empire would replenish its ranks through other means.

Red saber-crystals are actually used by the sith for a few reasons 1.they are synthetically grown in a lab, they do not grow naturally like the other colors 2. red saber-crystals amplify dark force powers (like choke, lightning, etc.) and 3. it's tradition by now that the sith use red lightsabers

To be honest it seems more like its a poorly built saber. Siths aren't around anymore so maybe he's self taught or something, I highly doubt they'd make such a drastic change to the style of all of the sabers for the sake of 'realism' (it's a fucking lightsaber, and it's fucking star wars).

It's been long-established that after the Empire took over, Stormtroopers were cloned from a variety of templates, and then they started recruitment of non-clones. As the clone in BF2 says, "We never really got used to the new guys." In fact, seeing a Jango clone however many years this is after the original films would be LESS appropriate.

The two little sabers are the swords 'hilt' which is there for protection to the hand. How isn't it practical. Also some argue that as most Jedi and Sith spin their lightsaber around excessively the owner is at risk from his/her own lightsaber. However it is likely that this Sith lord will use this lightsaber as a longsword so as not to put his/her own hand at risk and fight light a medieval Knight, did nobody consider this?? For the record storm troopers are conscripted and are not Clones. May the force be with you.

I dont get the massive hype about the Star Wars Trailer. The trailer is pretty much shit, creating no tension or whatsoever. To sum it up, the things shown in the trailer are a black guy in a stormtrooper armor, a robot, someone riding on a hoverthing, the Millenium falcon - yay -, some X-Wings and a sith with a shitty lasersword. Its like they are showing things that hype the hard star wars fans, but nothing real to create real tension, like a good trailer should.
