I'm pretty sure that the studio yelled at Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin to make this movie in 9 months and they cobbled together five different screenplays together. Think about it, the first movie never set up a sequel anywhere; it was essentially the 90s version of Star Wars. At the time, Emmerich didn't disappear up his own ass making environmental films yet; he was focused on making, big dumb American blockbusters. So, everyone didn't think about making a sequel.

Actually, your odds weren’t too bad on the Hindenberg: only 35/97 (a little over 1/3) people on board died. Vs on the Titanic, where roughly 1500/2220 (a little over 2/3) died. Am I saying Suicide Squad wasn’t that bad? No xD

Independence Day was an amazing, badass, destruction film and one of the last to do special effects with scale model scenery (it even holds the world record for using the most and probably will keep it). I grew up with it, and watched it over and over that I have the President's speech memorized. I have never been so devastated with a bad sequel as I was with this one, it blew my mind how bad it was

The first Independence Day had the perfect balance of solid (not corny or forced) character development, good script, great actors, great story and extremely cool CGI even by today's standards. I really hate the whole pandering to Chinese audiences thing Hollywood is so fond of these days. Not only do they make the movie worse, but not even CHINESE audiences like it. They go to theaters to watch a good movie, and trust me, they KNOW they're being pandered to, which actually lessens their enjoyment, because no one, not even the Chinese, like being taken out of a movie by a stupid scene that exists for the sole purpose of asskissing.

I'm from China and trust me, we all hate it. I remember last time we went to see Transformers 3, so many dumb ads doesn't even make any sense in that movie, everyone was literally laughing awkwardly at those moments. Listen You All. This movie was CHINESE. I've seen enough Chinese films to know that this fits just in line with any of them. From the large cast, to the character archetypes, to the "just make everything bigger", it's all there. The biggest hint is the comedy, many have said it was not that funny of a movie. That's because they use slapstick comedy to meet the most common of denominators. The Chinese also love to have all these side stories going on at the same time for some reason or no reason at all. And with big disaster movies like these, the Chinese love to have KIDS in them, not one but several. I guess it is to raise the stakes in a cheap way. In the next Transformers movie, you should all look out for the similarities to this movie. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised or horrified, take your pick.

I feel that it is important to note that the original title of this film was "Independence Day: Forever Part 1." I knew going into this film that it was going to set up for wayyyyyyyyy bigger things, and because of that, I wasn't as disappointed as everyone.
