Disney is bringing Aladdin back to life this year with a life-action remake starring Will Smith as the Genie.
Everybody loved the original animated version, so the cash grab makes a lot of sense. Looking back at that original movie though, it definitely raises a lot of questions. Like what exactly are Genie’s powers. How old is Jasmine and why are we even watching this? Why doesn't Jafar use his mind control powers to get what he wants?
To answer all these questions and more, step inside the pitch meeting that led to Disney’s Aladdin! It’s super easy, barely an inconvenience!

He didn't seem like he was all that smart. Or else he was going senile. I figure that's why Jafar could use his staff on the sultan but never used it on Aladdin or Jasmine.

@@samedud5051 Ah, yes. Because as we all know, your pet is an extension of you. Also, another point they missed. That the cave expected the monkey to understand situational morality on a fundamental level. Monkeys do not have this ability.
@samedud5051
@samedud5051 3 жыл бұрын
Darken Croix abu isn’t really Aladdins pet tho. Alladin clearly treats him like a friend and would probably not be able to survive without him, however he is still an animal which goes back to my original point of him being an extension of alladin. Also, abu is clearly able to understand English, evidenced by him putting the ruby back when the cave yelled at him for taking it, understanding whenever alladin talked to him, and even saying “uh oh” right after the cave yells at him, so he clearly understood the situational morality, and looked extremely fearful when he realized what he had done.

I wonder how the studio green-lit the movie in the first place. After all, it was a political statement wrapped in a children's story: Dorthy was the American Public. Scarecrow was the farmers Tinman were people that worked in factories. The Cowardly Lion was the populist William Jennings Bryant. Emerald City was money. The yellow brick road was really gold bricks. In the book, her ruby slippers were actually silver. It was a political story to convince Americans to keep the silver standard, rather than switch to the gold standard.

@@EverettBurger I read from the book The Making of the Wizard of Oz, that either Mervyn LeRoy (producer) or Arthur Freed (uncredited associate producer) convinced Louis B Mayer (then head of MGM) to buy the book. @Republic Of Texas Arguing "standards of the time" as an excuse for ephebophilia is like trying to justify child prostitution just because it's still legal in some countries, which doesn't make it seem any less creepy and disgusting, in fact, it makes it the other way around. Also, I'm pretty sure they don't actually get married at the end. And the underage thing could be a valid complaint if people were complaining about BOTH Al and Jas being underage, because that's Disney's fault and could have been changed. But it's not like Aladdin took advantage of Jasmine's age. They are too close in age for it to matter even by most of today's laws.
