Scott: So, this time, I want to make an android trilogy that's based in the Aliens universe. You know, like an Alien/Blade Runner crossover, but not really. Investors: Uh... no. Who's going to watch an alien movie without the aliens? I mean, that's the whole schtick of the Alien franchise. Scott: Oh. Okay. Cool. Cool. So, how about instead I make another alien movie? Investors: Excellent! Tell us more! Scott: It's gonna have three parts, and an android will play a big role in all three.

For me, part of the horror of the original Alien was that there were so many questions: what were they? Where did they come from? But the scary part was that the universe is so vast, so old, so much more immense than humanity can ever be, that it doesn't care about our questions. We don't deserve answers because, ultimately, in the face of the black, cold, ageless cosmos, we are insignificant. And there are beings out there utterly beyond our comprehension, to which we are just food. The new batch of movies took that totally away, and made it all about *us.* Like, humans have this special place in the scheme of the universe. I really feel that completely diminished the Aliens' power.
