Turns out Will Smith was smacking people for saying words he didn’t like long before he slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars. In 2008’s Hancock, the once wholesome-seeming superstar took to the big screen as Hancock, the superhero with a drinking and attitude problem.
Hancock definitely raises a few questions though. Like did Hancock just kill that train conductor? How did those two prisoners survive that “thing” Hancock did to them? How long was that bank robbery and why did Hancock take his time to get to it? Why does this movie suddenly become a completely different movie half-way through? Why do those bad guys think they stand a chance against the bulletproof superhero? How did Hancock PAINT THE MOON?!
To answer all these questions and more, step inside the Pitch Meeting that led to Hancock! It’ll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

When this movie came out I actually read the original script which was called Tonight He Comes. It is actually referring to what it sounds like. It's a much darker much better movie that does not have a second person with super powers. It has a very sad ending and I really wish they hadn't rewritten it for Will Smith. I highly recommend reading it. It's pretty easy to find online.

I watched this movie again last year, and it's become quite interesting in the post-MCU world. It came out at a time where we were still figuring out superhero movies, so stuff was a bit more out there (though definitely not always good). It's got a fantastic premise and there are legit hints of brilliance in it, it's just hampered by being so muddled and messy. And the premise definitely calls for at least an R rating. This is one of those movies that would definitely benefit from a remake, with a tone similar to The Boys.

I really enjoyed Hancock. Some of things Ryan pointed out I noticed but just enjoyed the ride anyway. Some of the other things I just didn't catch because I enjoyed the movie so much. The one thing I wondered is if they were thousands of years old and were married for most of that time, why did they suddenly start causing each other to lose their power? That wasn't explained and it kinda threw the believability out.
@Vincent_Beers
@Vincent_Beers 7 ай бұрын
It was very clearly explained. She very clearly explained to him that there used to be more of them and that as they paired off they would lose their powers and die off, finally leaving just the two of them. They were the only two that kept breaking up and trying to stay away from each other, it's why they survived and the others didn't. They would remain apart for 100's of years but eventually be drawn together, get into trouble and then split apart again for a period of time. When he got amnesia and forgot her it was the first time she could remain away from him effortlessly and not be at risk for a while. I don't think you were paying attention.

Honestly I watched the movie years after it came out. And the first half is so good. This super jaded superhero that is too powerful to contain, but doesn’t hurt anyone so they just leave him be. And he gets help, fighting his inner demons. It’s a great message that even someone with all the power in the world can still ask for help, and get better. But it just ends up falling flat when the bizarre ending pivots away from that whole idea
