"Someone will write in Archive of Our Own and it'll be beautiful-" The level of fear at hearing an actor I greatly admire from a show I enjoy name dropping AO3 like _you're not supposed to know we're over there or what we're doing-_ WHAT HAVE YOU SEEN?

Let’s not forget she’s also a writer for Rick and Morty. It’s not a far off idea that she has written some stuff in her day for AO3 too.

Okay no. On a World’s Beyond Number (Brennan, Lou, Erika, Aabria actual play) fireside chat, Aabria and Erika talk about a smut fiction on AO3 that they had both read about this NPC domming each of their characters. Lou seemed nervous lol

See, I didn’t finish watching sophomore year so seeing all these new characters and getting dropped into a quest I just figured was I’d missed a lot of shit lol

How could you not. Sophomore year is the best campaign.

hey there! no judgement, but I would really watch sophomore year before getting into this new season. the season is so good and you might get it spoiled!

Really? You should finish it. What caught me off-guard the most, was when Gilear took over the Nine Hells at the end, due to his Nat 20 against Asmodeus.

I’m so excited to see the bad kids try to figure what comes next after school and finding a work life balance. I really felt the bit about burn out! I’m in college and all of that is really hitting me right now, so I’m really excited for the rest of the season!

As a person who likes to know the whole story I wasn't a fan at first of starting in media res. But, it makes sense that these "heroes" would be on quests and getting into scrapes off screen. I still didn't like the feeling that I might have missed something, but it is fun and new. It's not boring. Never boring.

I’m also a bit of a lore completionist that likes to know 100% of the context, but I ended up really enjoying the en media res situation here. I like knowing all the things, but I also really like when the world stays true to itself. Getting here in the final chapter of another adventure the size of the Nightmare King quest (complete with beloved NPC companions like SQUEEM and Esaf, and a unique god capturing apparatus, the solar lasso, made to arrest the Nightyorb) really emphasizes how often adventuring groups are saving the world from god level threats in Spire. The bad kids have already done it 3 times, and there’s a whole entire high school cranking out new adventurers all the time. Getting to this season in the final battle of an off screen Nightyorb quest, really highlights that saving the world from apocalypse is a common endeavor for adventurers. We don’t know where the story will go yet, but starting here at the end of a huge quest (the we can mentally fill in the blanks for) would be a great way to set up a story about professional adventurers transitioning from school to adulthood. The Nightyorb quest is becoming so familiar that even the audience isn’t shown the bulk of it, highlighting what it feels like to the characters to repeatedly stop apocalypses. And honestly, we don’t even need to be shown the back story for the stuff in the first episode, you can generate most of it yourself with general D&D / D20 knowledge. e.g: The solar lasso (and the capturing glyph) took a few episodes to build and required befriending Esaf and/or Squeem. Fabian has been slowly building this weird relationship with Esaf, and will eventually have to reckon with the fact that Esaf is an emotional mirror that reflects back what you feed her (she might even end up betraying the party as a secret mastermind next episode). Squeem is a bit character that Brennan came up with that everyone loved enough to keep around to the end (unrelated: I love Squeem). Balthazar (and his collection of baby parrots) and Duncan the drunk centaur are semi improvised characters that the party latched onto so hard that the manifested character traits into them. And it probably took the party some work to track down the Nightyorb in the red wastes and get close enough in the van to ensnare it. Those are all largely guesses, but it’s a good enough headcannon for me to run with moving forward until they establish more parts of that puzzle in the show as needed. Also, since all the PCs also know how to fill in the blanks, it lets them write parts of this past adventure that usually would only be available to the DM as the improvise through it
