Screwdriver Restoration [Gold Plated Screwdriver With Golden Handle]

When restoring this rusty old screwdriver, I first removed the badly damaged handle. The antique screwdriver should shine in a whole new shine - it should be made of gold! Therefore, I gold-plated the metal part using electroplating and a gold solution. The handle was remade from epoxy resin and gold flakes. But also steps like grinding, straightening, hardening, polishing and work on the lathe were necessary to make the old screwdriver fit again. I bought this antique rusty screwdriver from a flea market internet site. Please be sure to also note that this video is not just to quickly show someone how something works, but also to relax and escape from everyday life!
▶ What did I do ?! ◀
The old screwdriver was in bad condition, it was bent and the handle was already badly damaged all over. I could no longer use the handle, so I removed it. Then I aligned the screwdriver, ground it and hardened it afterwards. I heated it to 800 °C and quenched it in oil. Hardening produced slag on the surface of the metal, which I sanded off again. On the polishing stand I polished the surface to a high gloss and restored the " forgotten shine ". With the galvanizer and a gold solution, I gave the surface a shiny golden glow. I made the handle with epoxy resin and gold flakes in a simple jig. The final shape was given to the handle on the lathe. Finally, I doused the handle again with epoxy resin to get a smooth and shiny surface.

I used the following tools: Soft-face hammer, sandpaper, sandpaper file, cordless screwdriver, steel wire attachment, blowtorch, forging pliers, oil, polishing stand, polishing paste, activator, gold solution, cleaner, electroplating equipment, hot glue gun, plasticine, epoxy resin with hardener, gold plate, multitool, lathe, lathe chisel, file, hot air gun.

You should have also made grooves along the handle like regular screw drivers. It gives firm grip of the handle. Just cut 4 lines at every 90° angle and smoothen them.

Erstmal Asche auf mein Haupt, hatte das Video schon vor ein paar Tagen gesehen, aber keine Zeit. Und wie cool ist das denn ? Hab ich noch nirgendwo gesehen. So kann man sein Werkzeug auch veredeln. Jedenfalls eine Top Idee. Da zeigt sich mal was so alles geht. Beim Thema Galvanik habe ich wenig Ahnung, vernickle hier gelegentlich mal Kleinteile stromlos (im Kochtopf). Falls du da mal einen Link hättest .... Vor allem : Was brauche ich etc. Ach so, ein paar alte Schraubendreher hätte ich auch noch : )))) . Vielen Dank für das Video, wieder was gelernt, such jetzt mal meine Goldmine auf.

No, oil quenches it more slowly, so it doesn't make the blade any more brittle than it already is. It is tempered at 3 so that it does not remain brittle. 🐢

@@ForgottenShineRestoration Thank you so much for the response! Honestly, the black cleaver restoration is my favorite restoration video and what got me hooked on restoration videos. One thing I admired about your videos was the care and time you took in rust removal. Especially using liquid rust remover instead of just grinding rust off. A lot of channels go straight to grinding or sandblasting and it seems kind of a cheap way to remove rust. Also, honestly, in this case, a screwdriver isn't the most exciting tool to restore. I bet it's hard to source really rusty cleavers and axes and such, though. Another thing, not just your channel but a lot of channels seem to release a ton of shorts. For me, they are just not enough content for me to care and they certainly don't substitute for a real episode. Anyway, thanks again for the dialogue, I do love your channel and hope you keep putting out great content!!!
