Streisand's voice was an instrument on par with great opera stars. In pop music it has few peers. People like Aretha & Whitney come to mind. The film Funny Girl made here the superstar, and if you want to be surprised & understand why, reacting to the finale "My Man" would make for a good reaction.

Barbra Streisand. When she started out, she was encouraged to change her name because people had trouble both spelling and pronouncing it (you can relate) so she dropped that unnecessary A in her first name. They should have known then she was going to be something else. She wrote that song and won the Oscar for it to go with her best actress Oscar for Funny Girl.

Wow....just an outstanding performance! I remember hearing about the original movie " A Star is Born" when it came out in 1976( I was 8 years old at the time), but I wasn't ready for this performance at all. I've heard other Barbra songs, and she has a reputation for being a great vocalist and a perfectionist in the studio. Kris Kristofferson is a legendary songwriter and performer. He's mellowed in recent years, but at the time of this recording, he was also a legendary hell-raiser. His drug and alcohol use was simply off the charts at this time in his life. It's hard to wrap my head around the two of them together in the studio, much less starring in the same movie. I'm not shocked by Barbra's great singing at all, but seeing her with Kris Kristofferson is a real head-scratching moment. Anyhow, great review! I missed seeing you while you were in boot camp.
@mikemiller30693 жыл бұрын
The 1976 version of "A Star Is Born" is not the "original". The original was made in 1937 and then remade in 1954 so the 1976 version was the third iteration of the movie.

@@BrettTwinSavage Spot-on! The story I read is that Barbra learned to play the guitar specifically for this film, and while she was noodling around, she came up with the main melody of the song - so it was *absolutely* not a minimal contribution.

Evergreen and Memory are the two best sung songs I've ever heard. When I was around sixteen, my father told me that Barbara Streisand was the best female singer. I think the live version of Monday Monday by the Mammas and the Pappas was the third best sung song I've ever heard. It is the only time they were ever recorded singing live, I understand (because they just mouthed the words to their recordings back then). It's on KZbin. I recommend it for a reaction video.
@HEAVENTWA3 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, Karen Carpenter was the second best female singer. Memory by Barbara Streisand, merits a reaction video, or at the least just listening to. One of the best sung songs I've ever heard from a female singer is _Which Way You Goin Billy?_ from the Poppy family. It would make a good reaction video. It was written by the husband of the woman who sings the song. He is the guy who sang _Seasons in the Sun_, which would make a good reaction video. The lyrics are like poetry. The subject is deep.
