Fun fact: This movie was a rare Murray brothers film. The actor who played Frank’s brother James is Bill Murray’s brother John. Their brother Joel played an extra at James’ Christmas party. Also, their older brother Brian Doyle-Murray played Frank’s and James’ father in 1955.

10:57 that is the Miles Davis group : Miles Davis, Larry Carlton, David Sanborn, Paul Schaffer. Miles Davis was living legend. After Bill Murray threw the ice & water from the ice bucket on the waiter, he said that he thought he was Richard Pryor. That was a reference to comedian Richard Pryor setting himself on fire at his home while on drugs. He received burns over 50% of his body.

The joke could also have been a reference to Michael J. but it could only work with Richard P. because he used this accident even in his "Stand Ups" routines, M.J. could have sued them😑

Karen Allen lives a couple towns over from me and will occasionally host screenings of her movies for the local theater. They did Scrooged a few years ago right before Christmas and she sat right behind my friend and I and watched the movie. She giggled the whole time and really enjoyed it! Now my friend and I always talk about that Christmas we watched Scrooged with our pal Karen lol! Oh and she got Dick Donner to record a special intro just for our audience that night too! Very cool.

One of my favorite holiday movies, my Dad took me to the theater to see it when I was a kid (divorced parents, Dads turn for Christmas. Which included movies, bowling and dinner out 😂). Then when I became an adult and he would come to my home for Christmas, we’d watch White Christmas, It’s A Wonderful Life, and the immortal classic “Scrooged”. As an only child, in many ways my Dad was my best friend growing up, and as an adult we were even better friends. He passed away 4 1/2 years ago. And every Christmas I still watch our movies. Love you Dad. Miss you so much. Happy Xmas all.

Thanks for doing this one. This is probably the first time in (yikes!) 30 or so years that I didn't watch it, though it made it more fun sharing it, in a way, with you. Years ago I saw Carol Kane (the fairy ghost of Christmas Present) off Broadway, and she was not only an amazing talent, but I got to meet her after the show and she proved to be an absolutely amazing person. MERRY CHRISTMAS, guys! Sending virtual love and dorky Fandom. One of my very favorite reaction channels. You guys rock. Happy Holidays!!!!

The Guy Pearce one looks terrible to me. Not sure why filmmakers can’t use all that creative energy to write new stories instead of taking existing ones, much beloved for what they already were, and writing elaborate, emo AU fanfics of them instead.

6:49 Yes it is Bobcat. He actually is best friends with Robin Willians, even directed Robin in his movie World's Greatest Dad which features as well teenaged Daryl Sabara, the main boy in Spy Kids. Btw it's not Bobcat's real voice, it's created for comical effect by him. He shines a lot in Police Academy franchise (2, 3, 4).

It's funny... out of all the versions of A Christmas Carol that I've seen, this and the Muppet version are the ones I find the most touching. Even acting opposite a bunch of foam puppets, Caine's acting is excellent. Murray's speech at the end of Scrooged, I've always felt, was a manic outpouring from a man who has reached the end of his tether. He's seen the light by that point, sure, but he's not yet certain whether it's too late for him or not. There's a palpable desperation to it.

David Johansen (Buster Poindexter) made a great ghost of Christmas Past. Elliot Loudermilk was played by Bobcat Goldthwait - and it's about time somebody reacts to his dark comedy film SHAKES THE CLOWN (1991) - and to all the detractors of the film, let me remind them what Martin Scorsese said, "I like SHAKES THE CLOWN. This is truly my favorite Scrooge adaptation as well. Secondary is the Disney Christmas Carol. The whole premise of learning on how to be a better human being is the bases for A Christmas Carol. Remembering who you once were when you were innocent and open-minded. Then putting a mirror up to your present-day face and realizing what you've become. And the future where you have to accept your possible actions will impact your world. That lesson is one of the reasons why I love the monologue at the end of the film. Who better to give it than an actor known for playing a A hole. Lol. Always put the smile on my face and warms my heart. Side note ,my favorite Bill Murray film is Meatballs.

This is one of my favorite christmas movies. It's really interesting how it takes such an old cliche story like A Christmas Carol and puts a modern, and refreshing, yet faithful spin on it. I think it's largely the bits between the ghosts that really sell the movie, when we get to see him struggle between who he currently is and who he used to be.

Harpsichords 'pluck' the strings inside the piano, pianos use 'hammers' to bang the strings (which for a piano are metal springs, not sure if harpsichords use springs or have strings), and organs are wind instruments where your letting valves open and close to pass air through what are kinda like large whistles... **turns off nerd mode** Second movie i ever saw as a kid in the theater, with me and my younger brother only (me 10, brother 7) dont think my parents realized the movie was what it was when they said here's the money go watch... and like Mr Movies, its also my favorite adaption of the original story.

A highball is whiskey and ginger ale. And a A harpsichord is not a piano that sounds like an organ. Harpsichords and pianos look similar and both make notes with strings, but harpsichord strings are plucked while piano strings are struck by small hammers. Harpsichords usually have a 5-octave range, while pianos have a 7¼ octave range. Harpsichords were one of the most important keyboard instruments in European music from the 16th through the first half of the 18th century. The distinctive sound of the harpsichord creates an almost immediately association with the baroque era.

12:56 - "Weekend at Bernie's?" "No, it's Curly!" You were thinking of Curly from "City Slickers" played by Jack Palance. You looked it up yourself and found that is not Jack Palance, it is John Forsythe. Mr. Forsythe was the voice of Charlie- never seen, only heard through the speakerbox- in "Charlie's Angels" from the TV show to the two 2000s films. You pointed out how we see him again- alive and in person this time- at 24:36 in this video: the Christmas party in the past. Every time I watch this film, or watch someone's react to it, I HAVE to comment on how that makeup- the dead guy in the golfing outfit covered in cobwebs and dust- ranks as one of my TOP zombie makeups of all time! I am, among other things, a makeup artist by profession, and have seen and created MANY zombie makeups in my time; it's one of my favorite genres of makeup; so many possibilities! In all the 'living corpse' makeups I have ever seen, this one remains WAY up there on the list, mostly because it is so unique! No scleral white-out contact lenses: only hollow, shrunken, shriveled eyelids. No blood, no pus, no ooze: dry. DRY, dry dry dry DRY!! Dry and dusty and desiccated and mummified and cobweb-covered and just SO dry! Rare to see that in undead makeups at all, and this is simply THE driest. The way the bones are showing through, the flesh is just sort of sitting there, as though it may flake off at any moment. Even his arm is dry, brittle, cracking bones, skin and muscles with no hint of moisture, just falling apart as Bill Murray claws at the arm, til he falls to his doom. And that mouse, with the golf ball? Hilarious! Sorry-not-sorry for the impassioned rant, but it's just such a great and unique take on a ghost, on a zombie, on a character! Makeup artist Thomas Robert Burman and his wife Bari were nominated for an Oscar, but lost to "Beetlejuice." (Okay, tough competition! They were also up against Rick Baker's work In "Coming to America," (which you've seen on the channel) which has another of my top favorite makeups- Eddie as the old Jewish man.) 20:57 - "You know, I thought you were Richard Pryor?" - For those who may not know, comedian Richard Pryor struggled with crack addiction, and once accidentally set himself on fire and ran down the street in flames, before he was rescued. He got clean and sober eventually, but it became quite the joke for some time afterward. (Not to hang back on the makeup artist thing, but I read that that line was suggested by the artist in the makeup trailer, and they used it in the film. I don't know if it's true or not, but I read it in an interview of his.) I'm kinda' with the wife as regards Bill Murray: He's funny, but he almost always plays such a smarmy, annoying asshole. He usually gets to be lovable sooner or later. But his style of humor has a definite edge to it. Which- as you mentioned- I've heard is not unlike his self in real life. Charming, funny, but also just a tad on the loud and obnoxious side. He's either "Obnoxious, but in a charming sort of way that makes it okay," or "Charming, but in an obnoxious sort of way that makes it not okay." It seems to depend on the situation, and one's attitude going in- or one's history with similar types of people. This is up there as one of my favorite "Christmas Carol" adaptations. The humor, the modern setting, the ghosts, the makeup, all that stuff. It is a story I quite enjoy. I'm no longer religious, but the basic concepts of "be good and kind and generous; don't be a stingy mean asshole" are pretty universal, religious holiday or not. So every version of the story has its own take on that core concept, and I always like seeing what a director and/or different actors will do with it. I was just thinking this year how I might like to take a hand at directing this show on stage some time; never have done this show before...

Frank Cross's boss is actually played by the man who was the voice of Charlie in Charlie's Angels and starred on the show Dynasty, John Forsythe as the family patriarch, Blake Carrington, both shows on the ABC TV Network. The boss character is an analog for the character Marley in the Dickens' classic.

St. Vincent is one of my favorite Bill Murray movies. If you haven't, I suggest a watch. 👍🇺🇸

Gotta agree with the marvellous Mrs Movies on Bill Murray, his best role was Caddyshack. He's tolerable in Ghostbusters. I really don't like Scrooged, but enjoyed the heck outta you guys watching it. For me, Muppet Christmas Carol is the best version of this story. Merry Christmas to the Movies Family 🎅🤶
